I have read ~700 pages of this thread and have learned a lot. Thanks so much to so many of the contributors. I plan to become one myself.

Question for the experts on this thread:
My sister submitted her study permit paper application (with upfront medicals) to the embassy in Accra on June 13 and VFS online tracking was updated yesterday (June 29) saying "Your processed passport has been dispatched to the Canada Visa Office". She will only be able to go pick up her passport next week so we don't yet know if she got approved.

Since she hasn't received an approval email from CIC, is it likely that her application was delayed? Basically, does the embassy always send an approval email when the application is approved?

Hi, I'm also in this kind of situation, although I did my submission (paper) on the 14th of May, got the "Your processed passport has been dispatched to the Canada Visa Office" mail yesterday. Really have no idea as to what it implies.
Keep me posted as she finds out. Thanks.

Yes it says "processed" and "dispatched", which means they are done with the application.

She physically submitted it in Accra since she is a permanent resident of another West African country neighboring Ghana (she's a Nigerian citizen though).

She's going for an MSc at Carleton University.

I am just so curious to know if an approval email is always sent.

hayqinsbFX:
Really, june10th and it says dispatched already.
Check well, there's a difference between forwarded to and dispatched to...
Cos my heart rate just got higher...

It's most likely a visa...2weeks? And she applied from Nigeria...
I guess she's got the Team12 kinda grace...

What program is she going for and which school if I may ask?

No need to list, till she gets the docs back.. Makes more sense when you know the reasons for a delay.
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by lightdotcom: 5:24pm On Jul 01, 2015
Don't think you are correct. It's a way of convincing the VO that your accommodation is sorted out already.

Maybe helpful if you are coming up with a shaking SOA
SeraSera:

You're not required to discuss your housing arrangements during the application process. Why even bring it up?? You may just be complicating an otherwise simple application. I'm not sure what circumstances warrant this disclosure, but I would do my best to leave it out if I were you. I'm sorry if this is intrusive or besides the point. I actually do not have an answer to your question.

PLEASE IF YOU WANT YOUR CANADA VISA QUICKLY IN NIGERIA, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF APPLYING ONLINE. YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE SENT TO ACCRA FOR PROCESSING AND IT WILL TAKE MORE THAN A MONTH TO PROCESS.

PLEASE DO PAPER-BASED AT VFS, IF YOU ARE APPLYING FROM NIGERIA. IT WILL TAKE LESS THAN 3 WEEKS TO OBTAIN A RESPONSE. IN ADDITION, IT WILL BE PROCESSED IN NIGERIA AND NOT IN GHANA.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA
Much as you wrote intelligently I'm sorry what you wrote is misleading. I applied via paper route and my application went to Ghana. Please understand that study permit to Canada is only processed in Ghana for all West African applicants. Visiting visas are processed in individual countries.

Na waoh. That balance was too small, it shd at least cover ur tuition n living expenses. Nevertheless that can suffice for an MSc in naija

I understand your logic and I hope the VOs see it the same way. Me just thinks the simpler and to-the-point an application is, the better. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by hayqinsbFX: 6:00pm On Jul 01, 2015
Omo..till u see ur passport o...
Still wanna decode. Dis upfront medcal tin...No one has recieved an approval mail after upfront sofar...and no one has seen a visa on his passport so far too...
With more applications we might have a clearer trend..

Yes, u can. I know someone who did same. Just go to the state CID with a copy of ur passport, 2photos, n over N10k. Your docs will be forwarded to Alagbon. My friend got his police cert within 2wks though(a long time compared with 2hrs or so at Alagbon)

Why don't you want to write GRE? Guess u wld ve more options if u be it. Check university of windsor, Odette Business School. For aids and all please check the school site as well as some Google search. Gurus in the house can't do much cos no one has info about all the schools in Canada.

Whether you like it or not, they will know he or she is a US citizen. Remember there is a place some where in the application package where they ask if you are a US citizen or Permanent resident? So there is no hiding place. My advice, use anyone that suits you. But if I were you, I will use the US passport.

@ Team 12, you are right. How prep?
@ supermum, see my advise below

Supermum:
Hello house,

For a baby who has dual citizenship (Nigerian and American) whose parents are Nigerian and intend to study in Canada, what passport is most advisable to use for visa application.
Does it matter if baby uses her US pp while parents use their Nig pp. some pole have advised against this.
Gurus in the house, what do u advice
supermum,
@supermom,
Biko use his /her Us passport while completing your application and family info form cos these guys have a way of finding out their infos. You do not need to pay application fee for a US born. A US citizen can enter canada, UK with their passport, no visa required, You only pay for yours . Just package your application well and be prayerful( Purpose of visit) cos those guys may feel you wanna go drop in their country again. All the best Regards
