Greetings Nairalanders.
I would like to share a story and would like to get your opinion on it. My buddy's birthday was last weekend, he invited everyone as usually, at the birthday another mutual friend proposed to his girlfriend. The host was very irrate on why the guy should do that without consulting him first, we had to hold him down back stage to avoid disrupting the whole events.

Now here is the problem, the host wants his friend to pay 50% of the expenses since he shared the day with him, the other refused to give him a penny .

My opinion was that though the other guy messed up by not informing the host of the intention, he should act like an adult and give him sth to cover expenses but not exactly 50% ... Could be more or less. Some people were very angry at the guy that proposed and said that they dont agree on my opinion, they would have insisted on the 50% or more.

The host should deal wit it... There is no specific place one must propose to his babe... It can be anywhr, any occasion... Even ryt in someone else's wedding....

Just to clarify this happened in Seattle Washington. None of the people involved are Nigerians.
Usually the U.S have this splitting cost mentality. You give someone a ride, its expected they give you gas money. Or if your travlling with your girlfriend she have to contribute gas money if flying you split the cost of flight, hotels e.t.c with her. So i kinda understanding the host asking for $

That is totally wrong. Reason is that the dude stole the show from the celebrant, and put himself & Girlfriend as the center of attraction.

Now Guests will start clapping (dats if the Girl says Yes) and the will hug, probably kiss, you know that stuff. And the celebrant if he/she is not cool, will be lyk "WHAT THE F**K .

That guy's got Igbo genes but he hasn't realized it yet. He should pay 70%. Split the cost between him and his girl.
