Please i found out that my transmission fluid smells burnt and its black, i dont have any transmission issues with the car yet, the gear shifting is sharp and perfect, its a toyota rav4 06,

My mechanic suggests changing the fluid completely, but am skeptical, about that, dont want to change it and start having issues, do you think a FLUSH can be effective and wiser to do than a complete changing?

What is the difference between 'complete changing' and flush?

Change the atf or leave it, your transmission has little life in it. Not sounding like a prophet of doom but, that box will quench soon.

But for just confirmation, drop a few drops of the atf on clean white tissue paper and see if there are particles. If there are, slippages will creep up soon.

Question not clear. Never heard about Viber in transmissions. Do you mean fibre?

Guys thanks for the infos giving us here @Kashif, Gazzuzz and co. The problem with my 2005 peugeot307 is that sometimes it doesn't pickup when trying to accelerate after decelarating. And before this usually hapens it makes a sudden jerking sound on accelarating, and the D on the dashboard will change to an S and a * before becoming a rectangular line. This happens more often when am going uphill, its quiet frustrating my fellow nairalanders pls help with advice and wia I can fix this. This also appears on the monitor,"boite devitesse motor defaillante" which offcourse is in french and it means gearbox failing after checking the translation online.

Great page I found today. Recently I have noticed that my gear gives a gbum sound when changing from D to R. Now it's gone worse as I leave from P to D, it will move at first change to second n almost immediately return to N and would start reving without moving. Pls help I changed the oil n serviced the power switch sensor yet issue persists. Pls advice. Thnks

Should I be worried that the gear indicator that shows what gear you are in doesnt do so sometimes, ? The dot just disappears but reappears if I put the gear back in D

If I were you...I wld scan the transmission to see if it will show a fault code. Its cheaper to do that now than to buy anoda gear box if there is a pending fault that could damage the transmission...My one cent!

From my experience, I think it's your gear indicator on the gearbox that is bad. If your car still engages well, then you can change it at your convenience.
The gurus in the house will throw more light.

I'd like to seek ur advice on my 2001 Toyota camry (droplight). bought it abt 2mnths ago. It's 131,000 mileage. Just serviced it with forte oil Viscoe 2000, then used sea horse ATF Dextron 3 for d gear. Can I continue with this oil, or u'll like to recommend a suitable oil.

Someone should explain: O/D off display on dash board when it's not depressed and no indication on dashboard when it's depressed in Lexus RX300

sea horse DEXRON 3 ATF is the worst ATF in the market.

True talk o, but it baffles me how it's the commonest atf in onitsha. My best guess is that those guys there are doing it to make you keep coming back for replacement gearbox.

You need to scan your tranny control module for codes.

Oga leave your OD button as it is, the light isn't suppose to show under normal operation so as to enable the car have access to all the gears.
