ABEngine: The pasture is very much greener outside but you must already know how take care of the grass if you know what I mean. You cant just enter a foreign land without planning for visa, housing, education, feeding, entertainment etc. Everyones scenario is different 4 Likes |

I rather die while trying to get to Europe than vanquished in this lawless tribalistic land where it's citizens continue to doom themselves through religion, ethnicity, tribalism, sectionalism, nepotism and pre-colonialism that has driven. What the op wrote is true oo. After staying in asia 3years straight. I'll advise you to better stay in your country than go to a place you'll be treated like shiit. e.g Malaysia. Except you're planning on doing crime you can never become a millionaire overnight abroad.Better use the money you want to travel abroad with to start a business or do fixed deposit. The struggle abroad is real. 6 Likes |

tai2:you missed the point, waht I was saying is, if you are legal the sky is your limits if you are willing and able to work, even if you decide to be a brick layer, which you can get certified for with £700 for a week's course, you will earl min of £500 a week, even if you are a security officer you will earn at least £400-£450 a week. The issue of being legal or not those not come into play in this context. If you aint legal 4get it,there is even a new law that says that if you are on working visa and you do not earn above £35 within 6 years, you are going back from where you come from. |

Lol. When I wrote this piece. It was to help the people who want to travel by all means and end up suffering abroad. However some have taken it to imply that I am currently in that state of limbo. Far from it. I live a quite comfortable life abroad but I know what it took and I know how many misguided Nigerians I see everyday looking for how to survive or living on the wrong side of the law just to stay behind. If I didn't have the money to live the life. I would be gone in a month. Some live their lives just to be constantly on the run from the police or immigration officials, meanwhile their mates in Nigeria have gotten themselves small jobs and moved ahead whether in civil service or private sector. A banker in Nigeria will be earning small money, dump it all and run to the U.S only to end up in poor circumstances due to failure to plan. Success is easier in some foreign countries than others and by learning how to seek it appropriately. No be to end up for Poland or Kazakstan in the name of searching for foreign visa and end up suicidal or frustrated. 15 Likes |

Depends on how you lived in Nigeria, but if you are doing good here, you wont be doing bad over there. Lots of people here, buy houses in USA before even heading there. For me, I cant work in USA, I just buy house and my wife and kids live there, I just visit. No time to work in US, na enjoyment i go there for. 1 Like |

The worst problem I see in Nigeria that affect me directly is lack of stable electricity. Which in turn is as a result of corruption. I just installed a home recording studio, but problem is I can't find quiet time to record because the generator is making noise from all corners. Once I have 24hours supply of electricity I have no business with some other country. 3 Likes |

Some days you will see Nigerians begging you for small money for food. You ask them their life stories, the person will tell you how they came to a foreign land with only $1000. Some spend sums of money e.g 800k or 1 million, that would start a successful very small business in Nigeria even with the frustration. Nigerians will gather irrelevant certificates and head for foreign shores only to find out that they don't know what they need to know and have no means of getting what they need to know (e.g money for education and retraining). Others end up in countries where the inhabitants are looking for work or where to run to (e.g Greece) and end up living in limbo. I only warn before it is too late. Obodo oyibo may have its advantages but people should think critically in order to avoid being victims. It is better to head to countries as xenophobic as South Africa where there is hope of a job that some so-called countries like Greece, Poland, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia and co. No be every visa be visa. 8 Likes |

If you like, you can compile one thousand and one disadvantages of Obodo Oyibo, the average Nigerian will not believe you until he gets a personal experience. We think the roads of Obodo Oyibo are paved with gold. The bottom line is that where ever one finds himself or herself, hard work is the answer. Life is not easy and there is no free lunch anywhere.Obodo Oyibo is an illusion. 3 Likes |

tai2: @ tai2.... You are right on all points . I have a professional degree and doing well abroad. Yes tai2 is right ! the points applies to us differently. The best time to enjoy ur life overseas, is when you leave Nigeria at young age to study here in university/college and with the foundation or values instilled in us, by our parents/culture , then you will do well. Going overseas beyond that stage in life , your chances of success ( compared to your peers overseas) probability is not as great. Now it brings up a whole lot of other issues about what is " success" and that definition varies for each person. The fact is, too many desperate young people leave Nigeria without setting priorities and with the proper documents then you are trapped and cannot fully benefit from the European countries/USA. The fact remains that most people leave /migrate for economic reasons , Europeans/Africans etc. Some may not know that there was a time when our parents were sent overseas by companies in Nija or govt of Nija in late 1960 ans early 1970"s and they could not wait to come back after their studies. WHY ?? Family and Love of country!!! If we can collectively fix our country ( security and economic empowerment) , most young talented Nigerians will not leave and the Nija will prosper. I support this msg from @Tai2 because of awareness it is creating, so our 18yr old (young men/women) do not perish in desert of North Africa , in the Mediterranean sea, menial jobs in the US but rather chose a predictable path to success and avoid the dangers of illegal immigration . 9 Likes |
