It's 5-man defense in your thoughts only not on the pitch. It's 3-man defense and it cost us a lot last season till LvG got his sense back and reverted to 4-man defense.

its cost us because we didn't use the right players.......you can't use a winger like young and expect him to track back(which he dosen't do) when the opponent are with the ball....and that was valencia's flaw last season.............defenders who also attack are very suitable for that role.......shaw was a good example last season he use his pace to his advantage and also track back because he was a natural lb...alves is also an example....

i prefer d 4-man back line doh buh when the 3-5-2 formation is used perfectly.... its also very good

There is no need wasting time and losing points while trying to acclimatize players to 3-5-2 like last season, these points are too crucial to be wasted.
Most footballers are not used to 3-5-2, 4 man defense is the natural system they are used to and we played better with that system than with 3 man defense.
Liverpool and Man City the 2 teams who have tried it in the EPL have struggled when employing that formation.
Keeping it simple (4-3-3,4-2-3-1) and mastering the basics and improving team chemistry, those are the ways to success this season.

The counter attack in EPL is something else. Opponents dont mind parking the bus and leaving just three front men to roam in our midfielder hoping to jump win and ball down and pace like Usain Bolt to DDG. Players like Benteke, Agbonlahor, etc. Those Leicester guys that look like tall weight lifters with pace to match. Even some short players sef with speed, I have forgotten the name of the guy in West Brom.

No 3 man defence.
