was he a Nigerian keeper? I don't know him,Its Celestine Babayaro I know
robosky02:
yes he was and the elder to Celestine babayaro

and nigerias keeper but injury stoped him before he could reach....
nijanigga:
what of, was it dosu joseph or something that kept at atl 96?
chukkystar:
The only Babayaro I know is Celestine..
alaoeri:
Yea, He was the 2nd choice goalkeeper, its 3goalkeepers per tournament.
holyokoto:
He was not a goalkeeper , Sorry, I thought is Celestine........ I dont dont really know emma
femi4:
I guess you mean Dosu Joseph.
Emmanuel is not as good as Dosu Joseph, in fact he was benched by Dosu Joseph in Atlanta
Emmanuel Babayaro was a reserve goalkeeper at Japan '93 and he was also our first choice keeper during the qualifiers for Atlanta '96 (most of the players that played in the Atlanta '96 qualifying series came from the Japan '93 squad). However, there was controversy before the Olympics when coaches Jo Bonfrere and Bazuaye said that Emmanuel was injured and relegated him to the bench. Emmanuel claimed that he was not injured. Dosu Joseph became the first choice keeper and he performed very well at the Olympics.

It was one of four major controversies that hit the team before the Olympics (others being the Finidi controversy, the Amokachi/Kanu controversy and the loss to Togo).

Emmanuel Babayaro wasn't Super Eagles 1st choice from time. Rufai was still active when he was with the U23s.
You should say we might not v known Dosu Joseph if not for Emma Babayaro's injury

Life is full of mystery.

Dan Amokachi that used to ball like a billionaire. Private jet, fancy cars, power bikes, and all life had to offer.

Lesson: Frugality is key to sustainable wealth and moderation is its foundation.

ohh, sorry oga Redbenson.. wasnt able to login to the mail and u know i just opened this acct and was denied access of replying you on ur just opened thread about advice on how to implement your ideas.

Well, nothing much. Just wanted advicing u, to be very careful when it comes to sharing the business ideas with people.. It'll be of great help to u if u could get the legal works done first before u share the idea with anybody, cos there's no how u'll want to discuss such thing with aspiring investors without u tabling the ideas to them and who knows what'll come thereafter. So, my bro.. Do the legal works first, just like someone said on the thread.. Talking from experience.

Wish u all the very best!

Thank you my brother. I'm being extra care self. Even though the project is so capital intensive, i think i wont let desperation make me leak the idea. It's an idea whereby, if i succeed implementing it, my fortune in life would just change completely. I'm repeating myself, i wont sell that idea for N10m right now. I've gone through homes and offices, and there's nothing of such in use. Imagine having a product that banks, poor, average and rich homes will be in need of, industries, companies, hotels, schools, just everywhere will need at least one. I mean, in Nigeria alone, you'll make a whole lot of money. Some Igbo men use idea such as this to amass wealth for themselves.

If he was that good, he could have reclaimed his position after the Olympic. How come he was missing in action throughout World cup qualifiers. You claimed he was good, yet he was no where to be found in 98 when Dosu had an accident and Ike Shorunmu was injured

grin Firstly, please point out where I said he was good (or where I said that he was bad).

Secondly, your ability to perform is not the only thing that determines whether you play in the Super Eagles or not. Let's take your example, why was Peter Rufai dropped from the team before France '98 and then recalled and made first choice keeper when Ike got injured? What happened to the 2nd and 3rd choice keepers? Why were Willy Opara and Abiodun Baruwa picked ahead of Rufai?

We can also use the Finidi controversy that occurred before Atlanta '96. How come Finidi did not play at the Olympics?

How will Finidi play when Babangida was younger and doing pretty well on the right side.

Both Willy Opara and Baruwa were not good enough to be no 1.

You can be 2nd, 3rd choice gk by politics e.g Agbim but to be no1 gk for SE, its based on performance.

In fact, if you mention Babayaro, the younger brother easily comes to mind. It is even obvious on this thread

Finidi was the best right winger in the world at that time. The NFA claimed that they invited him but he refused to come. Finidi claimed that he was not invited.

Peter Rufai was in the team before the World Cup, but he was dropped, not because he was not good enough, but because some of the players did not want him in the team. Ge was on his way to the Caribbeans on holiday when he was recalled to the team. If it was based on performance, then he would have been the second choice keeper. (It was this same issue that made Yekini decide that he didn't want anything to do with the Super Eagles after France '98, because some of the so-called senior players insulted him). Still on this topic of first choice keeper, what happened between Westerhof, the Minister of Sports and Rufai in Cameroon in 1989? How did Chigozie Agbim become first choice keeper of the team to the CHAN in South Africa when he was only the second choice keeper in his club?

By the way, you still haven't pointed out where I said that Babayaro was good or bad.

May be you didn't know that Olympic was meant for u23 players with clause of coming with 3-4 over age players. My issue with you is making up allegation that you couldn't back up with facts.
Yekini was our best striker at that time, yet he was not part of the team. Brazil didn't come with Romario too. So, stop all this propaganda. Perhaps, you should also know that Babangida replaced Finidi as no 7 in ajax to show you he was equally good.

I emphasized on Super Eagles not CHAN. CHAN is more like experimental competition. In fact CAF had to appeal to FIFA for the competition to be use in national team ranking.

Finally, believing that Emma was dropped for Dosu due to political reason is like saying Dosu did not merit the no1. Sentiment apart, if you were the coach, you ll always pick Dosu ahead of Emma

Can you read at all? First you claimed that I said that Emma was good. I asked you to show me where I said he was good, yet you are unable to. Now you say that I said that Emma was dropped for political reasons. Before you type any other thing, please point out where I said that Emma was dropped for political reasons. Don't ignore the question, just highlight where I wrote that he was dropped for political reasons.

2ndly, the NFA never claimed that it invited Yekini to the Olympic team, so I don't know why you mentioned Yekini. The NFA claimed that it invited Finidi to the Olympic team but he refused to honour the invitation. Finidi claimec that the allegation was false because he never got any invitation.

Don't forget to highlight where I said that Emma was good or where I said that he was dropped for political reasons.

Biodun Baruwa was promoted to first choice but he missed kicking out a back pass to him which rolled into the net for our own goal in a friendly match. His nervousness was too glaring. The whole country called for him to be dropped and that paved way for Rufai to return.

Let's say it was clear the local keepers couldn't be relied on. Funny enough, Rufai didnt have a good world cup in my view. He was past his best. We missed Ike and Dosu.

Predrag Mijatovic. That was against Yugoslavia. Regarding Rufai, he (rightly) said that he was not in form for the World Cup. He was on his way to the Caribbeans for his holiday when he was recalled, which leads to my questions, (1) Why was he dropped in the first place (2) Why was he handed the first team shirt ahead of the others.

Stop reasoning on the low side.

What you have below is called football politics

However, there was controversy before the Olympics when coaches Jo Bonfrere and Bazuaye said that Emmanuel was injured and relegated him to the bench. Emmanuel claimed that he was not injured

About Emma being a good gk, Your post below implies that

he was also our first choice keeper during the qualifiers for Atlanta '96

About Yekini, you claimed Finidi was our best winger(you were trying to justify why could had been included apart from the fact that he was invited by NFA) . I had to quickly stopped you with Yekini and Romario being the best strikers for their respective National team yet didn't make the Olympic team.

Its only in Nigeria and people like you read nonsense meaning to players selections, throwing allegations up and down without facts to back it up

Good God! The coaches said that the guy was injured (and other posters here have also said that he was injured), but the guy said that he wasn't injured. How does my reporting what they said = me saying that he was dropped for political reasons? I never expressed an opinion on whether he was actually injured or not, neither did I state my own opinion of why he was dropped. I simply reported what they said.

2) How does my stating that he was the first choice keeper during the qualifiers (which I watched) = me saying he was good or bad? So if I say that Chigozie Agbim was the first choice keeper during the Chan it means that I'm saying he is a good keeper??

3) I mentioned Finidi as an example of a controversy between a player and the FA. The FA said they invited Finidi but he didn't come. Finidi said that he wasn't invited. Did the FA say that it invited Yekini?
