If you haven't been in U.S for more than 2 years, complete your studies and have to hunt for jobs to survive, you will certainly not understand.

Sincerely, there is more than getting admitted and securing your VISA nonetheless, God's favor is the most important thing in life.

grin Let her enjoy her rights. I was trying to let the newcomers know the reality of after school before they start sailing their boats to U.S. You know when a new Nigerian is still learning how U.S works, a new Indian is already making good use of info gotten from those here before him.

To the newcomers on this forum, forget who you're in Nigeria, forget if you were a manager in Nigeria, you're a NOBODY here and you're starting from level zero. I have seen a bank manager and bank employees working as security guys here in NYC. Even those that came to U.S on visa lottery are doing/have done scut works for many years. Simply accept that this place is different from your home.

If you're coming with A LOT of money, let's say N10, 000, 000 which is just $50263.900...... no amount of money is enough for you in U.S.
If you have parents that can load your account with money every week.... tell them not to stop.
If you're a lone star or self sponsor..... I'm afraid to tell you, that the next few years will be the toughest time of your life.
If you're getting GA now....... laugh now and cry later. Enjoy it while it lasts.
If you're coming for a weak course..... don't be like "the end is clear to one with blunt machete", start taking more prerequisites in other fields and thinking about switching later.
If you're thinking employers will be thrilled about your visa status, accent, course or level of experience....... you've missed road.
If you think your F1 visa is more than to study alone........ wake up from your slumber.

I don't dispute the fact that few people step out after stepping in but this situation is very rare.

You're coming for 2 lessons....... one is school lesson and the other is U.S lesson.

You can't be left out........ Be wise fellows!

Big Bro, you discourage me finish no be small

@Profojah, I had not seen Awe2015's post when I put up my transcript. If I had, maybe I wouldn't have dignified your sarcasm with a response.
@imperiouxx, the transcript wasn't put up to make a point about the course. + I think I get your point, many have raised concerns about my choice and many more will but just remember "to each his own". This so called "American dream" differs for everybody; some people aren't just as "desperate" as some others. I made a choice to tow the line of Religious Studies - filled it out in Jamb form; I work with one of the best banks in Nigeria (take home pays the bills n gives room to save up A LOT) but I'm walking away from this to pursue a Masters in Religious Studies (and not settling for a MBA) because I have a pretty good idea of my desired destination (and it has nothing to do with Priesthood). Do me a favour n send me PMs so I can invite you for dinner and more when I get to the destination!

I love your passion and the fact that you are standing by it irrespective of what anyone feels about it. Go and excel!

Hello house,
I plan on going for a master degree in Economics and basically self-sponsored...
Finished this year with 3.8/5.0 in Oau...
What are my changes of getting GA nd sponsorship...nd what score should I be looking at for GRE
Thanks...

Try as much as you can to ace your QA and AW while not doing too badly in VA. What year did you finish from Ife perhaps, I could link you with someone from your set who is studying in the US. The chances of funding depends on your performance in GRE and your letters of recommendation.

America is tough but you have to be very smart to survive. Put on your thinking cap. Wetin no work others might work for you. Its all about being optimistic and be well informed. Some times the kind of people you first associate with can affect your mentality. As a naija boy you must have this never give up attitude. Be your eyes be smart and wise. Don't be scared to try even when others says its not possible at least give it try and be brave about it. Some time when I look how rough the struggle is the bigger picture always makes me smile. No matter how tough america is you still find it better than your situation in naija. The struggle na for the main time. Everyone definitely will have a story to tell. Above na make person pray for God's favor.

gurus in the house please I want you guys to critize the follow points for me. The question is why you choose this university?

Oklahoma state university is the flagship university in Oklahoma state. According to Princeton review the school is ranked 66 among top public schools

I choose Oklahoma state university because the school offers a number of student services including nonremedical tutoring, placement service and campus safety and security services like 24-hour foot and vehicle patrol

The curriculum matches my career goal in the senses that after completing my degree I would come back home to join other computer scientist solving computer related issues

OSU has a large international community helping to both foster the attainment of your educational and career goals, while also assisting with your transition to student life in the United States

You can mention the number of professors of software engineering they have, say something fascinating about 1 of them, like the research his doing n ur interest in that research. Say they have more than 15 professors of software Engineering, don't give an exact number, make sure u check ur department profile n check d actual number
