casket:
Nigeria Starting Line-up : Emmanuel; Oduduwa, Obanor, Atanda and Usman; Amuzie, Etebor and Okechukwu; Saviour, Ajayi and Daniel.
Thank God I'm not gonna watch, but gonna celebrate with them if they win!
The Squad I'm seeing isn't encouraging! And I don't wanna be disappointed as the U20 did to me the other time!
Wish them best of luck!
I will be back after 2hrs to read the result.

Siasia is an attack minded coach which is a reflection of how d boys attacked today. The team truely lacks good finishers. I think it is time to scout for better strikers. I dnt know y Aaron Samuel is nt in this team.Siasia should also press for d release of Imoh Ezekiel against d return leg.Exeperienced players like these can make d difference.

I dnt doubt Siasia's abilities but the abilities of the players he has selected.

In that 2008 u mentioned he had quality players like Taye Taiwo, Mikel Obi, Obinna Nsofor,Victor Anichebe, Chinedu Ogbuke-Obasi all of which were already senior team regulars both at club level and Super Eagles. That same quality is lacking in this team.
2008 olympics.. there was no Mikel no Anichebe and Ogbuke was injured.

I think the Team deserves commendation not bashing. We didn't have faith in them, yet they performed well!
SiaOne has proven himself again! The Lads attacked and defended well! The No. 3 Guy is fantastic and very good on the Ball. He made good crosses as well and never met off guard.
Kudos to them, and I pray they make it to the U23 CAF Championship.

Anichebe was in the qualifiers and Olympics proper.

Mikel was in the qualifiers but nt d Olympic proper.

Ogbuke was never injured. He featured prominently in both d qualifiers and Olympics.

Now i was refering to d qualifiers where all 3 players featured including Obinna Nsofor and Taye Taiwo.

That point when it was still 2-0 and close to 70 mins played. Siasia would have fortified d midfield with another defensive midfielder, choked up d game & secure d 2-0 win. With 2-0 Congo would have needed to win 3-0. Reminds of dat 2012 Afcon qualifiers game against Guinea where 2-1 win was enough for us to qualify as 1 of d best placed second team. Being dat Guinea won 1-0 in Conakry a 2-1 lead by Nigeria means Guinea are ahead on d head to head rule. Siaaia was pushing for a 3rd goal and boom! Guinea equalised late into injury time and we crashed out. Siasia should learn to manage games of such.

D scoreline did nt reflect d match. Our boys are far superior. The Congolese side i saw today will find it difficult beating Nigeria.

Nigeria slim win over Congo leaves qualifier wide open

Nigeria beat Congo 2-1 to leave this CAF U23 Championship qualifier wide open with the second leg in Pointe-Noire in a fortnight.
After a scoreless first half completely dominated by home team Nigeria, Junior Ajayi finally opened scoring in the 48thminute after Congo goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi failed to hold on to an acute-angled shot by Godwin Saviour.
Shooting Stars striker Ajayi completed his brace in the 54thminute, when he headed home a low cross from the left by Etor Daniel.
But just when Dream Team VI were cruising to a comfortable home win, Congo pulled a goal back through Moise Nkonkou in the 66thminute.
A penalty appeal by Nigeria in the 59thminute was overlooked by the Kenyan referee, but television replays later showed it should have been given as Etebo Oghenekaro’s shot was handled by a Congo defender inside the box.
Nigeria made three changes thereafter with Musa Yahaya, Taiwo Awoniyi and Umar Aminu coming in as they went in search of more goals.
Awoniyi failed to connect a low drive across the Congo goal in the 75thminute.
Oghenekaro was then denied in stoppage time by the Congo goalkeeper.
Congo were the happier of the two teams going into the dressing room after scores stood at 0-0 at a packed Adokie Amiesimeika Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Samson Siasia’s Dream Team VI attacked all of the first 45 minutes and visiting Congo were happy to sit back and defend with their lives.
Nigeria enjoyed 67 percent of the possession and forced 11 corners, but they still could not manage to translate the final ball into goal.
Saviour shot at goal after just six minutes, but it screamed across the Congo goal.
In the 12thminute, Junior Ajayi could have put the home team in front but he scooped away from target from inside the box after he was superbly set up by Oghenekaro.
Skipper Azubuike Okechukwu’s shot from the top of the box after 22 minutes was also off target.
In the 31stminute, Segun Oduduwa shot from a free kick was put out for a corner by the Congo goalkeeper Mafoumbi.
Three minutes later, Saviour goal-bound shot was headed off the goal line as Congo continued to hang on.
And in stoppage time, Saviour again forced a double save from the Congo shot stopper.

Siasia calls Dream Team wasteful By: Humphrey Njoku

Nigeria’s Under-23 team head coach, Samson Siasia has admitted that his side were wasteful against their counterparts from Congo Brazzaville.
The Dream Team V1 managed a 2-1 win against their Central African opponents in the 2016 Olympic qualifying clash on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Shooting Stars Sports Club marksman, Junior Ajayi scored a brace for Nigeria while forward, Nkounkou Moise pulled one back for the Congolese side.
Siasia said the side have lot of work to do on their finishing before they head off to Pointe Noire for the decisive clash in fortnight.
“We missed lot of chances in the 2-1 victory against the Congolese Under-23 opposite.
“We could have scored more than four unreplied goals in the encounter to actually make the reverse fixture a bit easier.
“However, I strongly believe the boys played very well, we will certainly work on the mistakes especially the finishing before the second leg clash in Brazzaville.
“I have quality players that can survive the onslaught in the reverse fixture in Congo,” said the former Super Eagles manager to supersport.com.
The aggregate winner of the two-legged encounter will qualify for the eight-nation Caf Under-23 Olympic championship in Senegal where the topmost three teams will pick automatic slots for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fourth placed side will engage in a tedious playoff to decide its fate.
Nigeria did not qualify for the men’s football event of the immediate past London 2012 Games.

Kelechi Iheanacho: Man City’s starlet is the future of Nigerian football

Mancity Opinion
https://o-posts.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Iheanacho4.jpg

Kelechi Iheanacho is the future of Nigerian football. It is as simple and straightforward as that. The 18 year old attacking midfielder has shown beyond any reasonable doubt the sort of talent he is. Blessed with an eye for a pass, packs a powerful shot and full of trickery. The 2015/2016 season is expected to be his breakout season and he has the pre-‐season tour of Australia to prove himself, not just with Manchester City, but also with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Quick Facts:
Name: Kelechi Iheanacho
Age:18
Position: Attacking Midfield/Centre Forward
Club: Manchester City
‘Nacho’s’ talent has never been in doubt. He was always set for great things and it is only a matter of time before he fulfils that big potential of his. A product of Nigeria’s U17 class of 2013, he was very instrumental in Nigeria winning that year’s FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and it was no surprise he ended up as the tournament’s best player. He is touted to be the long term replacement for Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha in the Nigeria set-‐up but first he has to prove he can be the player everybody believes he can be.
He is presently in Australia with City and started in their 2-‐0 win over Adelaide in their first pre-‐ season game of the 2015/2016 season. Work permit and injuries delayed his introduction to the first team last season after an impressive pre-‐season in the United States, but is expected to feature in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans for the new season.
“Manchester City will not send him on loan. Plan A, B and C is for him to remain with the club next season,”a City official told the Manchester Evening News in June.
Even Pellegrini himself acknowledges how good the 18-‐year old is, and spoke of how good he can be in the future.
“A very important player for us in the future,”Pellegrini was quoted in the Manchester Evening News.
Pellegrini added: “It depends on the way he takes this profession, but I think he’s a good talent.”
Key Strengths
Iheanacho is a rare breed. Not the fastest of players, but he is blessed with a perfect close control. Besides being a traditional attacking midfielder, he can also play in a variety of positions in the attack. He has featured severally for the City youth teams as a wide attacker, a centre forward and as a second striker. Naturally a left-footer, he is quite comfortable with the ball on his right, and scores quite an awful lot of goals for a player who isn’t a natural centre forward.
Stats
He has played nine games in FIFA competitions – the U17 and U20 World Cups and has scored six goals in those games (fifa.com) -‐ an incredible average of 1.5 goals per game in those competitions!
Due to injuries, he only featured five times for the Manchester City youth teams last season, and scored three goals, including a wonderful solo effort against rivals Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup – which is an average of 1.6 goals a game – and he also made two assists.
Interested Clubs
According to transfermarkt.com, Iheanacho has a contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2016, but no clubs have really made serious efforts to get him since he joined the former English champions. He was linked with Portuguese giants, FC Porto, before opting for City and he was almost sent on loan to MLS side, Columbus Crew, but injuries meant that didn’t happen.
Quote:
“I amworkinghardtokeepmyselffitandalsotobreakintothefirstteam.ItisnotgoingtobeeasybecausetherearealotofinternationalplayersinthefirstsoIjusthavetobepatientandkeep workinghard,”he told Chris Oguguo for sl10.ng in June, 2014.

Championship Qualifiers Tunisia U23
Morocco beat Tunisia in Olympic qualifier

Morocco beat North African rivals Tunisia 1-0 in their CAF U-23 Championships third round qualifier at Stade Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat on Sundayevening.
Attacking midfielder Achraf Bencherki scored the decisive goal to help the Atlas Lions to a narrow first-leg win.
The hosts would've beaten their counterparts by a greater margin were it not for an inspired performance by Sabri Ben Hassen between the Tunisian posts.
The CS Sfaxien goalkeeper was at his brilliant best, but could do nothing to keep out Bencherki from the penalty spot on the edge of half-time, having denied Adam Ennafati from close range moments earlier.
Bencherki came close to completing his brace following the break with his powerful effort brushing the paint of Ben Hassen's crossbar.
Tunisian enjoyed a late flurry with Adem Rejaibi and Saad Bguir boosting Tunisian's attack, but in the end it was too little to late as Morocco held on for a valuable win.
The second-leg is schedule for2 Augustin Rades.

2015 CAF U23 Championship Qualifiers
Zimbabwe hold SA in Harare

Zimbabwe and South Africa played to a 1-1 draw in their CAF U-23 Championships third round, first leg qualifier at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Sunday afternoon.
Owen Da Gama’s South Africa will consider the result a positive one on the road to next year’s Olympic Games, but they enjoyed the better scoring opportunities throughout and will feel that they should have claimed an outright win.
South Africa dominated the first half, but missed glaring chances through Siphelele Ntshangase and Siphiwe Khambule, with Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper able to make a couple of key saves to keep his side level through the first 45 minutes.
South Africa finally broke through in the 66th minute when Keagan Dolly was left unmarked in the box and finished off from a cross to put the visitors ahead.
The young Warriors responded well to going behind and earned a penalty late on, with a South African defender adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. Walter Musona scored the spot kick for 1-1.
South Africa had a chance to win the match in the dying moments when substitute Dumisani Zuma found himself one-on-one with the ‘keeper, but he failed to find the back of the net, leaving the game deadlocked at the final whistle.
The return leg will be played in South Africa on the weekend of 31 July-2 August.

Siasia Confident of Progress Against Congo After 2-1 First Leg Victory

The Nigeria U23 coach is positive his side would nick the all important victory against Claude Leroy’s team when they travel to Pointe Noire in a fortnight
By Shemmy Sholabomi

https://static.goal.com/1672000/1672042_hp.jpg

Two second half goals by Junior Ajayi meant the Nigeria U23 team was cruising towards victory with a clean sheet before Congo scored their lone goal to make the return leg in Pointe Noire more competitive.
Coach Samson Siasia has vowed to push his players to the limit to achieve the needed victory and ensure they are one step closer to the African U23 Championship and the 2016 Olympics.
Siasia said that despite playing very well in the match decided at the Adokiye Amesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, there is still much work to be done to seal the ticket.
“My boys worked hard on the pitch and every one played very well. But sincerely speaking I think the game is still open. So we need to work hard before the second leg and go to Congo in search of victory,” Siasia said.
“It was an explosive match from both sides and the visiting team played well too. But my boys put in their best and played very well. As usual we created chances and the only chance the Congo team had was converted by them.
“The Port Harcourt fans did very well to support the team. They came out in large numbers and their presence boosted the team and we are most grateful to the Governor of the state and the people of Rivers State for their massive support to the team. We will go back home and enjoy this victory and focus on the next game.”
Siasia took confidence in the knowledge that Claude Leroy’s team is now familiar and would be stopped in Pointe Noire.
“As regards the second leg match, we know the Congo team now unlike before. They came to defend. So when we play in Congo we will defend too and wait for our chances to score because we are a side that creates lots of chances in every match,” he said.
“We will go there create these chances and try to convert them too. You know that they need to score so it won’t be the same way they played here that they will play at their home.
“Since they will come out to attack, we will attack as well as defend. I am confident of getting the needed result to move ahead and qualify,” Siasia assured.

Rwanda/Nigeria: Mulisa Looking Forward to Mentor Amavubi Youngsters

By Usher Komugisha
Former Rwanda striker Jimmy Mulisa is eager to begin a new challenge today, one that will see him share his experience with the current generation of youngsters on the national side.
The 31-year old, who was appointed Amavubi Stars assistant coach for this week's training camp ahead of the friendly match with Nigeria's U-23 team on July 25 and South Africa three days later in Johannesburg, said keen on mentoring young players.
"Mentorship is something that has been lacking in our game and I am glad that (Jonny) McKinstry contacted me to come onboard and share my experience with the Amavubi players," said Mulisa.
Belonging to the 'golden generation' that qualified for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, Mulisa understands what it takes to qualify for a continental showpiece at a time the Amavubi are eying glory at the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The former APR star noted, "It is very important to guide these young players. They are talented but need someone to give guidance and tell them that it is possible. They are bound to make mistakes but they can learn and become better players."
Currently the technical director at Sunrise FC, Mulisa has already registered some success following his retirement from professional football last year.
The Rwamagana-based side finished in fourth position in the National Football League in their debut season and Mulisa in an earlier interview pointed out the importance of mentoring young inexperienced players and believing in them.
Mulisa wants to do the same with the Amavubi who he believes have the potential to succeed on the continental level.
The 26-man provisional squad that Mulisa will be working with this week includes impressively talented players like the teenage trio of Kevin Muhire, Dominique Savio Nshuti and Danny Usengimana who were outstanding on the U-23 during the CAF U-23/Rio 2016 Olympic qualifiers in April.
The trio featured for Isonga last season but will be looking to make a name on the senior national team and it is this passion and determination that Mulisa will be looking to feed with motivation.

Nigeria U23 star Oghenekaro (left) against Congo defence in Port Harcourt on Sunday
by Samm Audu

Congo coach Claude Leroy has admitted his team were lucky to lose by only 2-1 in Sunday’s CAF U23 Championship qualifier in Nigeria.
Hosts Nigeria totally dominated Sunday’s showdown, they bossed possession and created several chances, but they could only put two of them away to leave the door wide open for Congo to upstage them in the return leg in Pointe-Noire.
“We were lucky to lose by only 2-1 because we did not play our normal game and we missed several key players,” said the experienced Frenchman.
“Nigeria are a better team than Ghana (who Congo defeated to reach this round of the qualifiers).
“My players are coming from nowhere, we are not the Dream Team, we are just a team who like to dream.
“We also know now that we only need 1-0 at home in front of our fans and with good preparation to qualify for the tournament in Senegal.”

Nigeria 2 - 1 Congo | Three Players Who Would Have Caught Oliseh's Eyes

By Jide Alaka
The Nigeria U-23 team on Sunday at the new Adokiye Ameisimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt battled to a 2-1 win over a Congolese side coached by Claude Leroy.
Though the team did not score enough goals to give a good advantage towards the second leg in August, the display was a very good one ad some of the players would have caught the eye of the new Super Eagles' coach, Sunday Oliseh.
It is was a heartening display for about 70 minutes but the football the team played in the first half was the best that a Nigeria national side had played of recent.
And the good fact of the match was that just two of the players play abroad.
Another fact that was brought to the fore was the emergence of some real football gems that would have caught the eyes of new Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh as he starts pencilling down players for his first match - which will be a Nations Cup qualifier against Senegal in September.
The new Eagles coach was a defensive midfielder in his playing days and would have noticed especially the smoothness with which Azubuike Okechukwu conducted the U-23 orchestra last Sunday.
Azubuike Okechukwu
The diminutive defensive midfielder and captain was at the heart of every good move made by the U-23 team on Sunday. Composed and flexible in possession, he showed metronomic passing ability for all of 70 minutes.
Etebor Oghenekaro
This player has shown that he is destined for the top if he continues to develop. Congo coach, Claude Leroy, knew he was in trouble anytime the Warri Wolves midfielder got on the ball in his team's half. Pass after pass was threaded through for his strikers who can be described as profligate, especially in the first half.

The Enyimba midfielder just needs polishing to become a great player for Nigeria. He demanded the ball at every opportunity and made things happen. With better technical and tactical coaching, especially his deliveries, this offensive midfielder will become the total package.
The last time Nigeria saw such swashbuckling football display was the U-17 team that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Dubai in 2013. Coach Siasia has to be given the credit for unearthing another set of players that could just make the Super Eagles better in future but the future may be right now for the three aforementioned players.

Enyimba star Kingsley 'Bobby' Sokari will return to Esperance

Nigeria midfielder Kingsley Sokari is expected to return to Tunisia later this week after Esperance reached “an understanding” with Enyimba.
Sokari’s move to Esperance was headed for the rocks after the Tunisian club stalled on payments and the player returned to Nigeria.
However, Sokari’s adviser Vincent Alumona has now told AfricanFootball.com Esperance and Enyimba have reached an understanding on the player and he will now return to Tunisia.
“Sokari will return to Tunisia this week after Enyimba and Esperance reached an understanding. So, you could well say the deal is back on,” Alumona disclosed.
Esperance have already signed Nigeria stars Emem Eduok and Bernard Bulbwa.
It was also understood that Atletico Madrid interest in the player, who has been capped by Nigeria at U20, U23 and full international levels, is still on.
