the other time, rooney clearly stated that he was upset he wasn't played upfront in 12/13 alongside van persie. rooney said he wasn't fighting to play as a lone striker but as one of the 2 lead strikers in a 4-4-2 formation..........similar to what he did in 11/12 season. there's no way rooney would produce 4 OPTA-standard assists in a number-10 position.

Man United did not play 4-4-2 in 2011 /12, it was not a two strikers stuff like Yorke and Cole who played equally on same line.
Rooney played in a tadem behind Welbeck and Chicha. As number 10. Take it or leave it. I have spoken the truth.

Rooney saying he played as as lone striker or whatever, was just to buy his place as our striker this term to drive away any major signing in that position.

Ok this is the way I see it.

First big players hardly do well in preseason. Most times they are out of shape. Last season Iheanacho outshone all city players in preseason while the big guns were looking out of shape.

Rooney is always a slow starter. The only preseason he appeared to have done very well was last year when he was a beast and player of the tournament where we played big teams from Spain and Italy. I think that performance was influenced by the fact that he just returned from world cup, and he got a personal fitness coach that period, he never rested before the world cup.

In 2011/12 preseason, he was not near our best performers. But he went into the season to score 34 goals. What is important now is keeping fit, sharpening up, blending while avoiding injuries.

Haven said that, I think we will need someone. I need someone who can involve well in build up play, fast and a dribbler. I pick Pedro over any hyena. This is in case...

I don't want a repeat of last season when our hyenas were clipped.

Pedro as no. 9 won't be much different from Chicharito. Forget the team he's from dude is average.

I have seen Pedro done things that make me think he is very intelligent in front of goal. Coupled with the fact that he has pace and dribbling skills.

Rooney played virtually all matches Chicharito played. Which means Rooney was not the reason Chicha was on the bench. Welbeck and Chicha were the alternate strikers.

Rooney kept his position behind them. I have seen commentaries of 2011 stating concern on who was better as a striker between Welbeck and Chicha. As we go along, I will be producing these materials.

Let season start before you complain. Rooney was still our top scorer last season. Two seasons in a row. He scored 17 goals under Moyes despite not being the main striker, and playing several roles.

How can you ask what skill Rooney has at the moment? Rooney was involved in some clever play last season. If RVP scored a certain pass from Rooney, that could have passed as the Assist of the season. He lobbed the ball diagonally to escape the three defenders but Van Persie missed controlled and couldn't get a strong effort at the end. Rooney scored some fantastic goals in last preseason, he hit two from distance, one from about 35 yards.

He ended with 12 league goals, if he is played upfront only, he will score over 20 goals. He has only had 90 minutes this preseason. We have to wait and see.

The funny thing is the match analysis and players rating l have read did not say Rooney was bad. I did not watch the match. I was only relying on comments here.

But the various reports I have read suggests Rooney did even better than the first match. The players reported to have had a quiet day are Ashley Young and Blind. Although I saw Young giving an Assist in the video hihjlight.

Two seasons ago, when Moyes took our boys on preseason, Lingaard and Zaha were the stars. Lingaard was scoring like he would score 30 EPL goals while RVP had a poor outing, missing one vs one on at least three occasions. I saw all the matches then.

But the first two matches of the New Season exposed the inexperience of Lingaard and Zaha.

This is why I dey sit don look first this time around.

It's not that people hate Rooney or anything of the sort. It's just that he's become complacent over the years. We need someone sharp and potent to lead the line, not someone that miscontrols a pass that could lead to a goal.
