Why tell your boss that you have an exam when you can easily fall sick for a week. Except your organization supports a study leave, you shouldn't in any means communicate at your work to anyone that you are engaged in advanced studies, especially postgraduate, your boss probably has the same certificate as you, she wouldn't want you to boss her. Anyway, weigh what you prefer most, the job or your postgraduate, only you can advise yourself. If you have any other option, quit the job and go for your exams, it is clear your development isn't supported by your boss.

lmao! cheesy those that are sick are praying to be well oh

Firstly I take it that she didn't ccarry the boss along when she started the program. So, he is not in any way indebted to her. Lets set that straight, her boss isn't the owner of the bank_ he has no right to let her go anywhere.

There is what we call annual leave. He who fails to plan: plans to fail. I have seen so many people run various programs alongside the banking profession. They split their annual leave to tally with their exam period.

Finally, the boss ain't wicked. Just watching out for his own job... what if he lets her go and unluckily the Group Head or any top staff pays a visit.
He would say what? "I let her go write exams?"

Was she employed to write exams? Especially when the bank doesn't give 3flying 'forks' if you have a Phd. grin

She should use her head...
She should also feel free to resign, two days later...they would send 'relief'_ in a month...a permanent staff.
The work goes on. wink
That's all.

she just made the biggest mistake by letting her boss know she is studying Bcoz she is not been paid to study , you only do that if your boss is friendly enough, she can talk to people who she knows her boss respects and back it up with prayers

Hello people, my friend works in the bank and also running her post graduate program in the same state. She will be starting her exams very soon but her boss won't allow her go for it, and she has been pleading with her (boss) but to no avail, now she(my friend ) is contemplating on resigning.

Please advice me on what to tell her. 'Jobs no easy to come bye oh.'

Let her decide which is more important for now...job or PG ? All the same, you don't tell a Nigerian employer you want to go take an exam. Secretly plan for your exam and pull "a stunt" a day to your exam.

An average employer care less about your exam. Moreso, you are not getting paid to study. You study and take exam at your spare time.
Good advise, nice 1 @ JayKaba sad

Why can't she take her annual leave (20 days) or her exam leave (x days).

Respond before I say anything further.

Isn't she part of a trade union that can help her? Her boss cannot simply say no without sound reason.

What happens to "my mother fell from a palm tree lies or you are going to donate blood to your pregnant sister in the hospital" no boss especially the female ones will allow you go to school. She should come to work and feign epilepsy on that day.

1, is she your babe?
2, is the boss asking her out?
3, has she previously turned down her boss when he asked her for a date?
5, is she the loyal type of staff?
6, is she in a good relationship with her boss?
7, has she talked with any of the less busy colleague to work in place of her while she's gone?
8, did she even inform her boss that she will be starting her PGD programme?

See my friend, she can't just surprise the boss with such news and she expects him to just accept and grant her leave.
Things are done accordingly.
Give me answers to the above questions and i can assist you on how she'll go about it.

A typical Nigerian employer does not care about employees' private progress.if it's a private sponsorship,I don't think you should have told your boss in the first place. Try to persuade your unprogressive boss on this.
