the brown roofs of SW are the ancient parts that existed during the old Oyo empire while your forefathers were swinging in trees and walking halfnaked. Or do you want to tell me theynever built modern houses since then?

I wonder how you fools reason.

abagoro:
Even though I am one of the biggest critique of Southeastern Architecture, it is out of place to bring Lagos if your intention is to compare typical Southeast and typical Southwest. The reasons are many.

That said only Akure is comparable to Southeastern cities. The rest of the cities in the Southwest have short houses with rusty roofs as far majority. The roads might be better than Southeastern cities but never the skyline, modernisation or architecture.
I will keep repeating it till it registers. You guys have already PEAKED in terms of your development in the SE, considering that there isn't much space left nor creativity going on there anyway. Some SW cities like Ibadan and to a lesser extent Abeokuta that you all love to hate have been urbanized with sprawling settlements since the 17th century and the buildings from those eras are still standing today. A little paint and change of roofing would make those cities look like any other old European city coz of the style of architecture they model. But inspite of these our cities are large and robust enough to accomodate the good, the bad, and the ugly and will stand shoulder to shoulder (and even best) your best ones in the SE.

Now, the SE on the other hand was prettymuch leveled during the Civil war, so you all had to REBUILD, hence the seeming 'developed' look of (some of, not all) of your cities. The whole place is littered with unplanned and ugly high-rises of a particular design (which I suspect is due to space constraints), with no sidewalks or pavements on your roads amongst other defects. And in spite of your opportunity to rebuild, your building designs are still very very ordinary (except for a few ambitious ones I've seen on the Imo state thread), even the supposedly new buildings aren't exempt from this dull and ordinary look.

But the SW has expansive land and space with emerging cities and estates that have some of the most creative and modern designs you will find anywhere in Nigeria, e.g these in a city in Ogun state:

in SW, we don't throw away our belongings just cos we got new ones.

You can't expect us to destroy the old buildings, which tells us a lot about our past, just cos we want to build new ones when we have abundance of land for that. Mind you, oyo state is bigger than southeast, so there's enough land where modern structures are sighted.

We are not like some fools who have no heritage.

I am one of the critiques of that particular design which I often termed Igbotic but still I can authoritatively tell you that Lagos apart those poor Southeastern buildings still beat the rest of Southwest by a wide margin. We do not have roads as a result of long term neglect but if you talk about houses, even villages like Igbere and Abiriba are more modern.

Usual bullcrap! Ibadan is as big as the entire Lagos state! How much of Ibadan have you combed to arrive at that judgement? You don reach Alalubosa, Oluyole, Agodi, Iyanganku? Even Ogbomosho (another city in Oyo state) where I visited this past week is more developed than Aba. Yes, quote me on it coz I've been to both places. Why are Yorubas dying of jealousy here. Why are they bringing Lagos into this thread? It is a testament of 042 greatness, that she is being compared to a city built by the FG.

042 was the capital of the East, same time Ibadan was the capital of the West. Can we compare 042 to Ibadan? *grins* Common sense says no, that's why the Yorubas here rushed to compare my beloved Enugu city with Lagos.

Perhaps, tomorrow, the Gwaris will start comparing Abuja to Enugu too.

Enugu is a beautiful city, the land of my birth has no comparison, she is the pride of the Igbo nation, like a Phoenix, she arose from the ruins of Biafra, and today stands tall once again, her time is yet to come, not until Biafra is established, then her later glory will outshine her past glory, as she stands tall in the midst of civilized cities of the world.

And all Biafrans shall drink from her magnificence and pay homage to the city set on the hills, that can never be hidden, but rather shines with radiance that illuminates an entire nation!
