29 is a big age for a player that started playing at a top level since 17. it means rooney has given 12 years of his life in a top league when the shelf life of a striker of his size has an average of 8-10 years.

simple glance at his history theory does not wash. rooney was the best striker in the club in 06/07, he could only score 14 league goals in 35 appearances. as at that time, SAF didn't even know any other formation apart from 4-4-2. so what's the excuse?

you want to rely on a fat 30-year old player to perform in the same level as costa, aguero, suarez, lewandowski, etc? you have a better chance becoming the next british prime minister. by the time you realise rooney is totally washed, we would be out of 3 competitions and fighting to finish 4th with west ham.

that was rooney in the CF position last season.....we have played 2 preseason games now and our best striker is yet to score. the same rooney has only 1 away goal in the league in 18 months. you must be having a laugh, mate!

In the 2010/11 season when he scored 30 plus goals he played as a top 9 all season and scored goals 4 fun as a central striker! Rooney has always had 2 sacrifice that role 4 so many superb and sometimes average other partners in attack thru out his united career! From nistelrooy, cr7, saha, berbatov etc! If guys like drogba and ibra can still rep top 9 in dia mid 30's, why do u feel rooney @ 29 won't tear it up as he has done before? Wazza is the man! He just needs 2 make sure he focuses on the final 3rd and van gaal shud also ensure none of all that roaming and playing out of position crap and he will get 20 plus goals! He is good enuff!

My mind keeps going back to van Gaal's words at the post-season dinner. He said something to the effect of him having to make tough decisions about certain players.

rooney started way too early, he's not going to stop late......he doesn't have the ryan gigs body or the ronaldo body. how can any of you watch our Q/final game against bayern under moyes and not see that rooney as a lead striker is finished??

rooney would be 30 by october, he would only be still 29 in the months of august & septetmber......he would be 30 years of age for 7 months out of the 9 months of the next football season. start getting used to it already that he's 30. he's fat, slow, has a horrible first touch, he no longer has a goal sense and he's positionally indisciplined. van gaal needs a top breed striker or he would get sacked early next year.

Aguero is 5ft 8. Pedro is 5ft5 and a half inch tall. There's a clear difference.

Even Sanchez (5ft 6 and a half inch tall) isn't used as a top 9 by Wenger. A little height is needed to be a standing 9 in the EPL. Look at all the successful strikers in the EPL, is any of them less than 5ft6?

It depends on the kind of football a club plays. If Man Utd do play the Barca-esque style of football where they rarely cross but pass their way to your net, then Pedro has no qualms. But in Man Utd, both Maria and Valencia cross ball a lot, so we need a tall CF.

Ezioku. You don't have to be 6ft tall but a little height is needed. Imagine Pedro competing against Distin, Skrtel, Terry, Kompany, etc in the box. They're all taller than he is. Wetin e wan do?

06-07 was CR7 come out season he grab 17, to rooney's 14 and the EPL scorer for that season was just 20.
And he scored 23 goals all season.

He never really wanted to come here FFP restrained PSG .
So why not cash in now ?

i don't need a tactics site. i have more information on where rooney played than zonal marking or any football tactics side in the world. opta does not only show rooney's positions. they also take their time to produce the images of where rooney received all his passes. as at the time zonal marking reported his one-sided article, he didn't have such info in his ammo.

rooney played alongside welbeck/chicharito. when he referred to lone striker, he was talking about 09/10. in 11/12, he formed a strike partnership with welbeck/chicharito which explained the reason he threw his toys out of the pram in 12/13. he has given several interviews on this ish & he has destroyed your claim that he's the best number-10 when he said himself that his best position is the striker position.

Secondly, you are talking about where Rooney received his passes. Have you forgotten we have been through all these before. You are going to an area you will lose again. Few weeks ago you brought something about where Rooney took his shots as compared to Chicharito, when I brought the detail stats, it was clear Rooney played in a more withdrawn region than Chicha, Welbeck and Berba.

Also Rooney has almost same midfield stat as Carrick in some games. generally, Only Scholes and Carrick were having more passes than Rooney.

I don't know why some of you here find it difficult to acknowledge Wayne Rooney. If asked, i believe Rooney has done well for United over the years, his sacrifices, drive and especially his determination is second to none. He's the ONLY united player who can move from his clearing the ball off the line for his team to scoring against the opposition all in 30secs. Thats the sort of fighter i need in a united shirt. Whether you guys are comfortable with it or not, he'll be leading our attack next season and i believe he'll do well and i'm backing him.

the point is that Woodward cannot start behaving like a spoilt rich brat. the guy says he want to stay & prove himself, then he stays! don't forget he is also running a business with board of trustees {which include many investors [ & fans]}.

I noticed that LvG is one that gets short on patience on established and experienced players.
If you don't give him what your reputation says about you he drops you without batting an eyelid.

It's not been surprising the caliber of personnel he's already axed. This is someone who dropped his pants in front of Bayern players, so he's being mild in my estimation thus far.
At least he gave chances for the ones you listed above to prove themselves. People like Nani weren't given any shot at all.

The two seasons Rooney have hit 20+ goals are the two seasons he started and finished as top 9, Zlatan has played as the point man all his career So why do you doubt he can't replicate if he plays 9 this coming season?
