Re: Nairaland Residents' Grammar Diary... by Nobody: 8:01pm On Jul 25, 2015 |
thronekid: I still dont understand the use of the word 'appeasing' in that sentence. 'Appeasing' was used to qualify 'fractures' which you have defined to mean 'screams'. So how does the ordinary meaning of appeasing tally with the overall meaning of that sentence? Maybe you can explain. |

Re: Nairaland Residents' Grammar Diary... by Nobody: 8:34pm On Jul 25, 2015 |
luxanne:The sentence is in it's right manner, ma'am. You have to correct the gaffe without altering the message the sentence is passing now. Remember I said 'grammatically'. |
Re: Nairaland Residents' Grammar Diary... by Nobody: 8:45pm On Jul 25, 2015 |
adeaks:Okay. The expression 'My entrails are writhing in appeasing fractures.' is same with 'My entrails are screaming for appeasement.' Like I stated earier, it is an expression, maybe a metaphor, it is not supposed to be straight. 'My intestines are reeling in appeasing screams.' simply states that your 'Stomach (intestines) is screaming to be appeased.' Reeling there affirms it's continuity. Can I help you further, sire? |
Re: Nairaland Residents' Grammar Diary... by Nobody: 8:55pm On Jul 25, 2015 |
MizMyColi:You don't get the idea, do you? You have to correct the expression without changing it's message. We can see that the sentence is telling us that 56 years ago, Nnamdi Azikiwe was freed from asking for independence when he died. We know he stopped or rather, got the burden of asking for independence off his shoulders when he died. Do you get? This seems abstruse. Right? Let's go this way: '56 years ago, Nigeria got her independence.' (Correct my grammatical error in the above expression.) This should be easier. It is no more complex. 'Ornate' means something designed intricately with complex patterns. You know? Isn't that difficult or abstruse? |
