bidexiii:Third picture. BH vermins heavily depend on nigerias communication facilities to communicate. The base stations around the war fronts already have intelligent information as every communication equipment has some form of logs that the military can use to track their accomplices and determine their most probable next line of action. My narrow minded opinion though. |

NAF virtually non-existent. !!!!!! President Muhammadu Buhari has painted a worrisome picture of the on-going war against Boko Haram , saying that there was not enough fire power to support ground troops to decimate the terrorists. He spoke on Good Morning Nigeria, a programme of the Nigerian Television Authority, Monday, in Abuja. He made the comment while failing to answer repeated questions on whether or not he was able to secure a commitment from the US to sell critical equipment to defeat the terrorists. His words: ” The US has high technology, and of course the other developed countries like China. “Our case is lack of capacity and effective Airforce. “The Airforce is virtually non – existent. The fixed wings aircraft are not very serviceable. The helicopters are not serviceable and they are too few. “We need Airforce to conduct reconnaissance and support the ground troops. “The arrangement made by the former government will soon expire. “We have made this clear to the Americans and we have made it clear to G7 and we need their cooperation. ” President Buhari also vowed to retrieve proceeds of crude oil stolen by corrupt Nigerian leaders. He said that crack teams of the Nigerian anti- graft agencies were already on the trail of such funds and that those involved would be prosecuted at the end of the investigations. President Buhari, however, reduced the quantity of the alleged crude oil theft to 250, 000 barrels per day. He had told Americans during his last week trip to Washington that 1 million barrels were been stolen daily. He failed to answer repeated questions on whether he got any commitment from America to sell military equipment to Nigeria to fight Boko Haram. He only lamented that there were not enough serviceable Airforce fighter jets and other military hardwares to quickly win the war against terror. President Buhari also gave an insight into those to be appointed into his cabinet, saying that he would appoint only patriotic Nigerians who were knowledgeable professionals and technocrats who had not been compromised. |

War On Terror: Army To Establish Motorcycle Battalion The Nigerian Army is considering setting up of a special force that will use motorcycles to check the activities of terrorists. The new battalion, when established will complement efforts of the ground troops. LEADERSHIP learnt that the Motorcycle Battalion will be a special unit out of the initiative of the army chief, Major General Tukur Buratai, in his efforts to wipe out Boko Haram within the shortest possible time. LEADERSHIP further learnt that the new military high command brought up the idea as it had become evident that troops were finding it difficult to penetrate terrorists’ hideouts using military vehicles, especially in the dreaded Sambisa Forest. Reports point that it is difficult pursuing the terrorists in some parts of the North East as a result of the topography being a muddy area and this hinders the movement of the troops. The troops in this contemplated motorcycle unit would be selected for training in the use of customized bikes and they will now be playing complementary roles to the ground troops. The motorcycle battalion is usually a quick-fix corps of soldiers who perform all the duties of a reconnaissance battalion. It is an assault battalion, which seeks out an enemy soft spot and launches attacks. The Germans, Britons and Americans have dedicated motorcycle battalion corps that backstop their regular armies. Historically, motorcycle battalions included an armored car company and several companies of motorcycle infantry. The motorcycle infantry companies were organized as assault squads around several motorcycles with sidecars that carried lethal weapons during the World War II. At this time of the year (rainy season), the topography of the North East is heavily muddy and impassable for heavy vehicles. After his visit to Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states during the Sallah break, the COAS sieved from the various briefings by the relevant commanders that an ingenious move had to be made to demobilize the insurgents who bomb crowded markets and towns and race back to the forests. LEADERSHIP reports that the emergence of President Buhari has sent strong signals to the terrorists that their days are numbered. In his recent US trip, the president was promised a lot of support and assistance from the Obama administration, and with the new service chiefs in place, our source disclosed that the end of terrorism is now in sight. “President Buhari has received tremendous support from President Barack Obama as witnessed in his official trip to the United States and you would recall that prior to the trip, the president had replaced the service chiefs he inherited from former President Goodluck Jonathan with a view of repositioning the military for what is regarded as the last phase of the battle.” For armies struggling to find sufficient motor transport, the motorcycle battalion provides a cheap fix to making units mobile. |

Again, Boko Haram attacks army chief’s hometown. Boko Haram insurgents on Monday launched a fresh attack on Buratai, a small community in Borno State, where Nigeria’s army chief, Tukur Buratai, comes from, just a week after a similar attack there killed two people. The attack on Buratai was the fourth since February 2014, PRNigeria, which distributes media releases for the Nigerian military, reported Tuesday. The website quoted the acting director of army public relations, Sani Usman, a colonel, as saying that the “suspected terrorists made a futile attempt to attack Buratai town in Borno State and military camp located in the area”. In February 2014 when Buratai was first attacked by the group, Mr. Buratai, a major general, served as commander of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta. His elevation a fortnight ago by President Muhammadu Buhari, as head of the army, has ostensibly drawn greater attention to the community, more so after Mr. Buratai vowed days after to crush Boko Haram and force its members to beg for mercy. “As Chief of Army Staff, I will be actively involved in this ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole’ to end the madness of Boko Haram if I will have your collective maximum support and cooperation,” he said in a speech in neigbouring Yobe State. “Since Boko Haram terrorists have refused peace (Zaman Lafiya), we will now force them to accept peace.” Two days after the remarks, the jihadist group staged a deadly onslaught on the community, killing two people and destroying homes including Mr. Buratai’s family home, in an attempt to seize the town. Mr. Buratai was not present at the time of the attack in the early hours, security sources said at the time. The latest attack was somewhat different, Mr. Usman said. The militants arrived the community on Monday at about 9.30p.m.After they were repelled by soldiers stationed there, they reinforced and returned by morning of Tuesday, he said. “I am glad to inform you that the gallant soldiers rose to the occasion,” Mr. Usman said. “They however made concerted effort at about 3.00am this morning which was equally repelled by the gallant soldiers. The situation and town is cool and calm.” |

BlackBaron: They are not really going to be fighting wars or battles with bykes or all terrain quad bykes in deserts but rather be a reconnaissance SF team or recce team that can gather information get close or behind enemy lines and gather information for strike force or rapid team. They can also be used in tracking enemies movement. Using tracked vehicle, wheeled vehicle in desert terrain in dry or wet season might or leave a big signature for the enemy of ur activities, having these kind of SF team is more of information and intelligent gathering. And in trying I think there is no harm if it works and if it doesn't? In a war u might not win all ur battles? |

Since Bokoharam have in the past fooled ordinary Nigerian people as well as Nigerian soldiers too, by wearing military fatigue, and since Bokoharam's preferred mode of transport are motorbikes, is it wise for Nigeria to form a motorbike based squadron ? motorbikes are so much cheaper than trucks and pickups and not as dangerous to try to capture as tanks from Nigerian soldiers, they're everywhere. Once Nigerian special forces on bikes become accepted by the population and familiar,Bokoharam will wear military uniforms too and ride around on bikes shooting civilians, causing confusion. Nigeria needs a well funded and well equipped army. Fighting this war on the cheap will cost us more in the long run. |

11 Boko Haram militants killed by troops in an ambush No fewer than eleven Boko Haram terrorists have been killed in Borno state on Monday, July 27, in a clash with local vigilantes and the Nigerian army. Three vigilantes were said to have also lost their lives in the clash. According to the Nigerian military spokesman, Major General Chris Olukolade, a new regional force tasked with fighting the jihadists should go into action very soon, though he did not specify when for tactical reasons. “On Monday afternoon around 2:00 pm (1300 GMT), Boko Haram gunmen on motorcycles attacked our village,” Markus Yohana, a local militia member fighting the Islamists in Dille in Borno State, said. “They killed three vigilantes and seized a car,” he said, adding that soldiers ambushed the raiders as they tried to flee, killing 11. Another local, Bitrus Damina, confirmed the account. “Soldiers went after them and killed 11 of them in the bush,” Damina said. The sect has intensified its attacks since the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the Nigeria's leader. The 8,700-strong Multi-National Joint Task Force, which will replace the regional offensive, is expected to be more efficient than the current alliance when it takes over the battle against a six-year insurgency that has killed some 15,000 people. “Any moment from now, the operations or the Task Force will be manifest. In other words, we may not tell you (when it will commence), you will just see it,” Nigeria’s military spokesman Olukolade told AFP. |

Henry120:This is approach to fighting insurgency is highly welcome. These bikes would drive side by side with the mowags and APCs to pursue fleeing terrorists. Our best bet is to approach the countries with history of hot desert pursuit like jordanian military, and involve the russians too as they will be sure to deliver these tools at a good price, going by our not too good military relationship with the americans at the moment.

persius555: Yeap I totally support the new COAS idea, he should just consult countries with such experience to help out. because maj Gen Buratai made mention in one of his speech, in what I call what lead to the idea of creating the SF team that APC"especially the wheeled ones" stalked in the mud when pushing fleeing BH MILITIAS. Now when u now av these trained SF team with ur attacking force side by side it will be difficult to loose fleeing insurgents, even the Boko haram militants as mastered the art of byking in sambisa forest so why not us stepping up our game? |

Nigeria Air Force intercepts Boko Haram's fuel supply The fuel supply route of Boko Haram militants has reportedly been blocked and seized by the fighter pilots of the Nigerian Air Force. The fuel supply route of the Boko Haram militants has been blocked, and new supply seized by the fighter pilots of the Nigerian Air Force. In a statement on Wednesday, July 29, the Director, Air Force Information, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, said the Air Force seized 4,000 drums and jerry cans of petroleum products from smugglers. According to him, the items which were intercepted from smugglers in Pepe, Dashin-Hausa, Belel Bilachi and Konkul villages located along the Nigeria-Cameroon borders on Tuesday, are meant for the operation of the terror group. He added that the Air Force was able to cut off the fuel supply routes of the insurgents through sustained air patrol activities along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. “The NAF was able to achieve the recent feat through its air patrol activities, covering both land and water, along the Nigeria-Cameroon borders. "The NAF has continued to identify and destroy BHT (Boko Haram Terrorists) camps and supplies by employing surveillance and combat aircraft. Intelligence gathered revealed that these efforts have greatly strained the supply efforts of the BHT,” Alonge said. 1 Like |
