That's Eeben barlow, the chairman of STTEP and a regular beegeagles blogger.

#Fun Fact : Half of all deployed armed personnel in both of America's wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have consisted of Mercenaries, or the politically correct term of PMCs.

#Fun Fact : "Do you know that over 5,000 CIA mercenaries where hired by the Apartheid Government and fought alongside SADF troops in the Bush war in Angola?".

Nigeria has also always been a long time user of PMCs. The hullabula generated over Nigeria's use of PMC, are primarily racist and intended to feed the narrative that the black man is in capable of defending himself and would always require his "white saviour" to come rescue him.

We have always advocated for the offensive approach against BH, but for best reasons known only to the higher authority, they would rather adopt the opposite. Terrorists never do well when caught unawares, thank god the army authority know better now.

Stunning Pictures of the First three Rafale “omnirole” jets delivered to Egypt

The Egyptian Air Force has received the first three of 24 Rafale jets.
Egypt has received the first three Rafale jets during a ceremony held at Istres airbase, in southern France on Jul. 20.

The three Rafale DM (as the two-seaters destined to the Egyptian Air Force have been designated) represent the first batch of 24 “omnirole” combat planes sold in a 5.6 billion USD deal signed with Egypt authorities earlier this year.

The aircraft, that will be flown to Egypt on Jul. 21, will be used to reaffirm Egypt as a regional power as Cairo faces threats and instability both on its western border with Libya and on the eastern one where Islamic State groups are settled.

The deal with Egypt represents an important export success for the Dassault that eventually secured an order for 36 Rafales in India in April and also signed a deal with Qatar for 24 Rafale jets in May.

Chad army kills 117 Boko Haram militants in two weeks

N’DJAMENA, (AA): The Chadian army announced on Friday that it has killed more than 100 suspected Boko Haram fighters in the past two weeks during an ongoing offensive in four villages in the Lake Chad Basin region.
“We killed 117 Boko Haram fighters in an offensive in the last two weeks. We lost two men and two injured,” Colonel Azem Bermandoa, spokesman of the Chadian army, told Anadolu Agency on Friday.
According to Bermandoa, several Boko Haram boats were destroyed and many weapons were seized during the offensive. He also said military operations are still ongoing in many villages in the Lake Chad Basin region, including Koungya, Merikouta, Choua and Blarigui.
The Chadian army’s offensive against the Nigerian-based armed group started on July 17.
Meanwhile, Cameroon security forces told Anadolu Agency on Friday that three suspected suicide bombers were arrested on Thursday night in Maroua near the Nigerian border.
“One of the three was carrying a bomb, but it was defused before the explosion. The other two that seem to be just accomplices had no explosives at the time of their arrest,” a security source told Anadolu Agency requesting anonymity.
The source said that according to the identity cards of those arrested, “the bomb carrier was a male and of Nigerian nationality. The two accomplices are males and are of Cameroonian nationality.”
In recent months, Boko Haram militants have intensified suicide attacks in Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon, causing several casualties and forcing villagers to leave.
Following recent summits on the Boko Haram insurgency, however, the Lake Chad Basin Commission comprising Nigeria, Niger Chad, Cameroon and Benin agreed to strengthen the regional force with at least 8,700 troops.
Backed by the African Union, the regional force comprises 3,200 soldiers from Nigeria, 3,000 from Chad, 950 from Cameroon, 750 from Niger and 750 from Benin.
The regional army would become operational starting Friday and will be headed by a Nigerian army general. Its headquarters are located in Ndjamena, the capital city of Chad.

Vanguardngr.com is reporting that NAF might have received T-129 Helicopters from Turkey. As you might know, because of the hot environment, our MI-35 Helicopters having been facing quite a number of difficulties, especially with the gear box.

However the T-129 story isn't yet verifiable. It is such a high-profile deal, I just can't help but feel that there would have been an announcement on sites like Janes Defence.

Now, to your question, we have been here multiple times (so many times over the past 3.5 years) before, announcements have been made on multiple occasions on new Jets for the NAF, however, there hasn't been any concrete evidence to support any of these claims.

I had a series of email exchanges with the individual in-charge of SIPRI's arms transfer datebase, in one of the emails he pointed out that Nigeria operates a secret arms purchase programme and all the data they use in compiling their Database are mainly from open sources.

My point is, there isn't enough evidence to say that we actually have received new jets, and in the same vein, there is no evidence to discard the recent "gist" as false. So like everyone else, we would have to wait and see, do not raise your hopes up.
