The problem Nigeria has is one portion of the country is not willing to embrace democratic ideals or the customs that would allow democracy (or free trade) to thrive. They are happy in their backwardness, they think that every situation can be solved with violence hence their propensity for senseless rioting - when someone makes a comment about a beauty pageant, they riot; someone draws a 'blasphemous' cartoon, in another country - they riot; their candidate of choice loses an election - they riot.
