Bros, you should say "newly renovated" and not newly constructed, please. While you are posting the photos, please tell us in clear terms the total number of schools in Kogi state, the total number of dilapidated buildings in each of those schools and the total number of buildings renovated under Wada's administration, in each of those schools.

Also include the names of the schools and the districts where each of them are located to give people a clearer picture.

Publish each of the 'before renovation' and 'after renovation' photos too, if possible.

NB: Finally, include the WAEC scores of secondary schools students who passed their exams in your next post, because it is not just a few renovated buildings that determine or indicate good performance in the education sector.

In 2014, only 15% - 24% of the entire batch of students in Kogi Schools that sat for WAEC/Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, SSSCE exams, passed their papers with 5 credits. I don't know if you would call that a good performance.

I feel so sad seeing these pictures, this school was one of the best Technical schools in the country back in the 70s and 80s.
This is a tragedy!
This is the result of corruption!

I went to this school, I gained admission in 1983 and finished in 1989.

The school was established in the then Benue state shortly after the creation of the state in 1976 by the then murtala/Obasanjo government in line with the federal government policy on technical education along with 6 polytechnics. The school bus seen in the pictures was donated by the federal government and was in perfect shape in the 80s.

Back then, this school was more equipped than most of the engineering departments in our tertiary institutions today. We had students from Kwara, Bendel, the old Anambra and Benue states.
The decline started with the introduction of the 6-3-3-4 system of education in 1986, all the junior classes were scraped and the school was made a senior secondary school. From there on, enrolled declined and the massive looting of the equipments started.
After the creation of Kogi state in the 90s and the apparent lack of enrollment, the school was converted into a secondary school and the decline continued till till today.
All the dilapidated buildings in pictures were built in the 70s. This school had about 6 Indians and Sri lankan teachers and a functional staff quarters back in the days.

Lies!!!..the man is from Ayangba. There's a university in his village and a college of education in a nearby town Ankpa.

Ayangba is one of the fastest developing towns in Nigeria. It is close to Oboloafor in Enugu.
There are private secondary schools there too. OP always confirm the authenticity of a story before you post it.

"Ayangba, one of the fastest developing towns in Nigeria"? Are you from Russia?

Kogi state, aside from Lokoja and Ajaokuta, is a monumental disgrace to Nigeria in terms of development!

The governor is very confused and lacks ideas.
He has no business being a leader, let alone being a governor!

Point out the falsehood in my post! What part of it is not authentic?

Is it wrong to say that he has failed in the area of education? Don't even let me go into the area of healthcare and roads. The few roads Wada upgraded, were mostly done in his area. Kogi West which Melaye represents has the worst network of roads in the entire North-Central region of Nigeria.

How else do you describe a governor that refurbishes a few roads in his district and abandons any attempt to upgrade infrastructure in other parts of his state? undecided

That's not the bone of contention. Is Governor Wada from Udu or Ayangba?

The photos attached are not abandoned buildings but the current but pitiable state of Government Secondary School,Odu-Ogboyaga. The only Secondary School in my Governor's village. The truth is that, the school is just about 500metres away from Mr Wada's private residence. (The only habitable building in the collection is Mr Wada's private residence.)

That's the effect of imposition of candidates by the PDP corrupt govt of jonathan. For the forthcoming govship election coming up in kogi state the gov has been requested to bribe the NWC of the PDP to with the sum of #1b if he wish to re-contest. Look at a complete failure that destroyed his state with the denial of putting up infrastructures in his state. Imagine the dilapidated state of the only sec school in his village. Wada you are a disappointment to nigeria and you must be prosecuted and sent to prison when ur immunity expires nov this yr. Don't hope of coming for second tenure. I told fmr president jonathan same thing for his abysmal performance and he lost in the presidential election to a great man of integrity president Buhari

If na kogi matter, just forget it, afterall wole soyinka described kogi as a farmland. Until the ruling Igalas hands over power to other parts kogi will continually be a wastelands. The Igalas ve made kogi so backward dat I begin to weep at times, atleast dey have bin ruling since inception and yet other parts of the state is more developed than where the governors always come from. The Igalas are just bunch of corrupt illiterates, all dey know is how to steal money, no single development in the state, u hardly see kogi governor on TV commissioning any project or even hear him speak. Its a shame! I think it's time for a desperate change in kogi, power has to shift to either kogi west or central. Enough is enough. Kogites wake d Bleep up

i think the poster is being a bit mischievous. in 1991 i did my youth service in odu ate. By that time the technical college was already on its last legs. Most of the equipment had been looted. These are some of the legacies of the Ibrahim Babangida Administration. The curriculum was changed, hence the end of technical education. I believe the same fate befell the technical schools in Ankpa and Idah. They are all legacy schools inherited from benue state. During my service years i stayed opposite the school in some blocks of flats meant for the teacher college i believe. Those buildings were also on their last legs. In my humble opinion, i think renovating these structures may be unnecessarily expensive. It is better to build a new school. All the buildings will need foundation reinforcement. i believe the poster is just using these to score cheap points. Kogi people are naturally rebellious towards authority - Government or traditional. In ayangba you wil find some of the most resistive youths.. All they care for is money sharing. They are not interested in Labour..

The fact is that Wada has not met our expectations. The bad Roads in Kogi West are federal roads. Where are your senators and house of Reps. Members. Please try to get to the root of the problem and you will realise that the roads are bad because of too many vested interests.

In one breath, you acknowledge that Wada has not met expectation. Good.

In the next breath, you are saying that the roads that are bad in Kogi West are federal roads? Bros, did you conduct a census? How come you know that the only bad roads in Kogi West are federal roads? shocked

Even if they are federal roads, what effort did Wada make to ensure that they are reconstructed by the federal govt? Lokoja is less than 3 hours drive to Abuja, oh! So don't tell me the seat of power was too far for Wada to get to, and apply continuous pressure on Federal Govt for solutions to those roads. undecided

As for the Senators & House of Reps members representing Kogi West, the thunder that will fire them for non-performance is still doing press-up and will appear at their doorstep very soon. It will start with the clueless, ostentatious Dino Melaye before moving on to the others.

Finally, several state governors have upgraded and refurbished many federal roads in their domain in order to reduce carnage, prevent casualty on those roads and ensure their citizens live a better quality of life. In Lagos State, ex-gov Fashola refurbished so many federal roads that we lost count. Some of them, he even re-constructed from scratch. Are the people of Lagos not far better off for it?

After the refurbishment, Fashola asked the federal govt to reimburse him for fixing their roads.

Is it a crime if Wada does the same, or must more lives be lost on those bad roads before he takes action? shocked

I don't care where he is from!! Does his hometown confer any special powers on his ability to get the job done?? He was elected by the majority of people in Kogi State to govern the entire state, so his brief while in office is to ensure there is progress and development in ALL parts of the state, irrespective of where he comes from! angry

Where he comes from, is the last thing that should interest anybody! Such thinking is parochial and backward. Look at the ex-governor of Akwa Ibom. Does anybody remember his village when they talk about his achievements?? shocked

If it was possible to rotate governors, I would ask them to rotate Akpabio to Kogi State for 3 years to implement a development programme for the state and ensure it is fully executed!

No governor has ever paid keen attention like Capt Idris Wada of kogi state. There is no state in Nigeria where you can't find old ramshackle structures like these, but this particular school have been renovated long ago. In the same Village, government has spent over three hundred million on water supply and reticulation. This community will be hosting one of the best medical establishments in kogi state when Odu Ogboyaga Ultra Modern Hospital is completed by the end of the year. All iconic schools in kogi state have been renovated and new ones constructed. We are not surprise at the display of these out of used structure by those who wanted to used them for political gains. It's clear that in education, Wada is doing a lot, moreover, his community is not the one in the state.

Guy, leave those excuses I beg. You said all iconic schools in Kogi State have been refurbished. What about the non-iconic ones? Must they be left to rot? If what you have said is true, why didn't the govt demolish the dilapidated structures when it built the new ones to replace them? sad

Was it because he was preserving them as artifacts in his museum? shocked Are those ramshackle structures going to add any value to his life, when he finally leaves the government house?

The original post.. The school died with the change in government policy..

All these comparison of lagos and Akwaibom to states like kogi are baseless. Revenue profiles are non-comparable. Kogi is one of the accidents of State creation.. They lumped 3 discordant ethnic groups in one state and expect development and harmony.. And they are professionals in Juju. I can never forget my time in the state..

The comparison was made based on performance, NOT on revenue profile. A governor that is clueless, inept, and visionless can have the highest revenue profile in the country, yet he would still be unable to achieve anything significant, substantial or concrete in his state. angry

A governor that is creative, filled with purpose and vision may have one of the lowest revenue profiles in a country, but would still be able to deliver good programmes to improve his state and benefit his people, by cutting areas of waste, seeking international donors like the World bank to fund certain projects, utilising international grants judiciously etc. undecided

Lagos repaired federal roads, not because they could NOT find a better use for their revenue; but because they wanted to improve safety, transportation and development of their citizens and their state.

Kogi has a lot of waterways. How many tourist companies has it attracted to the state to develop waterfront hotels or complexes? Why can't they build jetties or do Water Buses/Ferries like Lagos State did, to ferry people from one port to the other? Just create the enabling environment, work hard to get investors in these areas and give them the policies and support they need to succeed! shocked Do you know how many jobs would be created and how much taxes they would collect, if such schemes were operational?

Akwa Ibom transformed its healthcare system and other areas of infrastructure because it knew what such development would bring to its citizens.

Ok, lets us look at Anambra, Enugu, Edo and even small little Ogun State that is in Nigeria. How different is their revenue profile from Kogi?

Did Obi not plug waste in Anambra and did he not leave Anambra in a better state than he met it? Kogi is even lucky, they are close to Abuja. Instead of using this proximity to attract people to its state, it has remained quiet, reclusive and unable to utilise its proximity to Abuja to its own advantage in a way that would create benefits for its citizens. cry

Nassarawa on the other hand that is also close to Abuja has built housing estates, repaired roads and has done everything to attract new businesses and the best set of investors into the state, to develop it. Do the governors that have governed Nassarawa have two heads? Most parts of that state are better developed than Kogi! angry

As for having discordant ethnic groups in a state, that is nothing new! Look at Delta, etc. Delta is a mini-Nigeria with the Itsekiri, Urhobo, Isoko, Igbo all lumped within the same state. Even other states have different ethnic groups within them and yet their governors have managed to develop their states.
