The kingmakers make recommendations. The emergence of anybody as the king rests with the Governor. That is the way it has been since the colonial days.
Since colonial days ke Ahaha kilodeeeeee

Op is correct and consistent with the facts of history...at the risk of sounding immodest and atttacting all sorts of remarks, i am indeed a direct descendant of Ooni Derin Ologbenla . Our clan eventually settled in Oke-Igbo but we still maintain our ties with the Giesi Ruling house at Moore in Ife. My dad used to tell us about this Prince thing and our ties with Ife and this made me curious to dig out the facts about it..Ti ori ban joba loola , u may av heard it first from here.
My Grandfather is Ooni AdeRemi , Our Family Compound is at Iremo, My my father's Village Estate is in Moore.

Well, personally, if it's the tradition, it shld be observed. Minus the "killings and other negative stuffs dt's done in the name of traditions' I am in full support of us maintaining certain aspects of our traditions. It's sad to see we are gradually loosing touch of who we "were". Kids don't speak their native languages anymore, peeps are changing d way and manner dr names are written to English (Femi to Phemmy, etc) and a whole lot.

We need to maintain our history/culture, derive pride in them... (cos they really matter).

We got lots to learn from China, Malaysia, India and even our northern brethren in ds country abt becoming world leaders without loosing ourselves in the process!!!

THIS IS AFRICA MY FRIEND, in Africa, we respect tradition, Culture and ethics. that is why we are unique... in England, a new prince or princess can never be unveil without prior approval from the Queen..........even in 5000000000century, we will still remain Africans...even the white envy out culture
.. GOD BLESS NIGERIA

something I don't really understand.

I guess Oke Igbo has no King but Baale.

Very possible he was an Ooni(Head of Ife) and Baale of Oke Igbo (head of Oke Igbo).

Ooni Derin Ologbenla was a powerful king.

The Ologbenlas in Ife seem to have their village towards that side(Ifetedo Oke Igbo). Not really sure anyway.
No Ooni Derin Ologbenla was the one of the founding fathers of Okeigbo, he was also the 2nd Baale of Okeigbo. He led the war to rescue the Osemawe of Ondo from his subjects, after defeating the Ondo army he decided to settle at the place, he spent the night before invading the Ondo Army which was 'over the bushes' (where the name OKEIGBO was derived)

When he was declared Ooni of Ife, he preferred to stay in his new found home (Okeigbo) to staying in Ile-Ife

**Am an indigene of Okeigbo and from one of the Ruling Family.

I guess There's some process to announcing the death of the king, also inhabitants of the palace have to move their stuff so as not to risk losing them.
But most importantly some of these kings do die “momentarily“ and rumours of their death spread only for them to “return“ with the claim of just being ill.But this one has gone on for long enuf,I think the dude is really gone (waja).
Thanks for the clarification so far ....but what do u mean by momentary death ..u mean temporary death ?

Ooni Derin Ologbenla was the Son of Odudua, Generations before Adelekan. Ikorodu was not Lagos then.
Ooni Derin Ologbenla is Ooni Adelekan Olubuse 1's predecessor. Not generations before Adelekan.

lolzzzz, you funny though, btw am yoruba, but hey no matter their legend or stories, they do really have similarities, i was made to understand that the oonis are not blood descendants of Oduduwa, they are more of a custodian to his crown, his blood descendants are the Oba of benin, Alafin and the rest.I adore the binis sha they upheld tradition better.
Re: How The Next Ooni Will Emerge – Priest by gidjah(m): 9:25am On Aug 05, 2015
Thats pretty correct o, they are blood relations both, and thats why their culture and traditions are similar

The Governor of each state appoints traditional rulers. The present (or dead) Ooni, Okunade Sijuade was appointed by Governor Bola Ige of (Old) Oyo State in 1980.
The Prime minister of Britain is appointed by the Queen doesn't mean she picks who becomes prime minister

No governor can choose who becomes Ooni

You are as confused as the person you are trying to defend. Do king makers choose one person to be Ooni or several people from the ruling houses, among whom the Governor picks from? Apply common logic in your arguement.

The case of the Prime Ministership is quite different. Can the Crown refuse the leader of the party with majority from being the Prime Minister? Go read how Lamido Sanusi became the Emir of Kano after his name and those of others got to the table of the Governor from the kingmakers.
