Differences Between: Sack, Lay-off, Retrenchment And Fire. by Mbkite(op): 10:32am On Aug 06, 2015
I need someone to give a good explanation to these words; Sack, lay-off, retrenchment & fired with their differences.

The words have raised lots of arguments in our office.

Thanks.

That's the bottom line bro. grin

I think Sack=Fire and Lay-off=Retrenchment.

For sack/fire, a gross misconduct must have happened on the part of the one who was fired.

For Lay-off/retrenchment, mostly happens when there is the process of downsizing the labour force in an organization. Or letting loose the less productive arm of an organization.

If one is fired, I would be hard to get employment else where, the reason of his lack of employment comes up during an interview process. (Except the fellow wants to shy away from the truth)

While one being layed-off could get another job seamlessly.

Damnnnnn niggarrr
Let me learn
Fired= gross misconduct or you go against the organisation's rules

Lay off= this one make sense. Them dey tell you say Bros no work for you or rather your area when you for be specialist don finish. Oya dey go house. Bonus money dey follow this one

retrenchment: Bros dey go house but we fit still call you back make you resume work if everything good for us.

Then sack: this one na soft fired. But na the same thing with fired. Probably them don set up a disciplinary committee on top your head to check your gross misconduct before them conclude to tell you good bye

Bros op i don try. You owe me some bottles and weed.

OK.
Re: Differences Between: Sack, Lay-off, Retrenchment And Fire. by Nobody:
Quite some similarities between all of them but to my knowledge-

Being laid off could be temporary or permanent. Most cases it's always permanent. Likely no one is replacing your post. Sounds like an organization or company not having enough resources to maintain the workers.
It has similar feature to being retrenched.

Being Sacked and being Fired both projects the similar meaning.
"Fired" could be said to be more less empathic tho.

They all just have different contexts in which they are used. Inshort the reasons behind it's usage dictates which one of them is used.

Since 2015?

@MODs, una sabi say enough people will be sacked in the name of ‘laid off’ because of this corona. It is well with us
Re: Differences Between: Sack, Lay-off, Retrenchment And Fire. by Nobody: 1:57pm On Apr 29, 2020
Sack means you've been sacked.

Fired means you've been fired.

Lay off means... They just later you off.

While retrenchment means you've been retrenched?

They all mean what the word says they mean.
