First Bank Simple Equation That 87% Could Not Solve. by Kutunban(op):
I saw the below equation on First Bank BBM channel and what i saw with great dismay was the poor answers people were writing. Seriously our arithmetical knowledge needs to be awaken because i can't see a nation developing with poor analytical skills especially with simple equation.

So Nairaland members lets see those with good knowledge of arithmetic and those who will embarrass their parents.

Nopes!!! its 6, u gotta use BODMAS!!!
(3) + (3*3) - (3+3)
3 + 9 - 6= 6.
sorry guy, you don't know how to use BODMAS, It's (3)+(3*3) -3 +3, minus 3 cancels +3 => 3+9 = 12
Re: First Bank Simple Equation That 87% Could Not Solve. by Champion01(m): 6:48pm On Aug 09, 2015
With the use of BODMAS, the answer is surely 12. 3+ (3*3) -3+3

No body has gotten the correct answer it seems am going to involve a form of reward for the right answer to make it interesting.

Yeah! its BODMAS approach but you guys are not doing it right.

Very simple. ..

Use BODMAS

The correct answer is 6

(3+3)3-(3+3)= (6)3-(6) = 18-6=12
Re: First Bank Simple Equation That 87% Could Not Solve. by hapheeyxz:
3+3*3-3+3=12. why is it 12? now we introduce BODMAS and can only get the answer if we use it how it should be used.let's start now
B for bracket( )
O for of
D for division
M for multiplication
A for addition
S for subtraction.
from d equation we are concerned about> MAS
I.e we do d multiplication first so we have
3+9-3+3 which is 12-0 coz -3+3=0. so d answer is 12. for better understanding u can even rearrange before u subtract I.e 3+9+3-3.

3+3×3-3+3
=3+9-3+3
=12-6
=06

it cant be six(6).

how can u equate (3+9-3+3 ) to ((3+9)-(3+3)? mr hapheeyxz.

the negative sign is for only (-3) not -(3+3).

re-opening your bracket would give us (3+9-3-3) so is (3+9-3-3)=(3+9-3+3)?

. first operation using bodmas is 3x3=9 next is addition 3+9+3=15 lastly subtraction 15-3=12

ode Lason answer is

Bodmas

No BOD so left with MAS

3 X 3 = 9 M

3+9=12 and 3+3 = 6 A

Then S

12 - 6 = 6
sorry wrong do it bit by bit bodmas all multiplication then all addition and then lastly before touching subtraction

I don't aw aw some guyz passed common entrance, dia is nothing like bodmas hia...firstly -3+3=0 then 3+3*3=12 so what's d big deal abt dis.

I.e we do d multiplication first so we have
3+9-3+3 we can separate it for better understanding as in (3+9)-(3+3) now we add and we have
12-6 which is equal 6.
Dat is obviously wrong. Firstly, once u put a bracket immediately after a negative sign, all positive signs within d bracket becomes negative signs so as to keep d originality of d given equation. Like for d given equation:
3+3x3-3+3 will be (3) + (3x3) - (3-3) which will translate to: 3 + 9 - 0 = 12-0 = 12

it has everything to do with bodmas lets assume we follow this ur step -3+3=0 agreed then 3+3x3 will either be equal to be 18 or 27

3+3×3+3-3=12

3×3=12+3-3-3

3×3=15-6

9=9

proved

So the ansa must be 12 whether u lyk it or not Mr.0.p.

Don't just open a thread just like this other one www.nairaland.com/2486149/many-persons-fail-maths-photo opened earlier without eventually putting up the solution. Whats the purpose of such threads? OP, have u gat the Authentic solution or not? If its meant to educate people, you should be ready to provide the correct answer with proof and not like that one that got people arguing from 1st page to the 12th page without the proof of correct solution.
