It about time Honour is given to those who deserve it. Many Nigerian professionals will be ashamed when compare to the Legend Sam Okwaraji regarding his love and zeal for Nigeria to the extent of dieing in the service of the Nation. Let remember he was a lawyer and a professional footballer playing in Europe which was very rare in those days. He fought his club to represent his country for free, but all we see these days are pampered players that Nigeria has to beg or bribe to play for us. I just relished how it will have been had Sam not died for he was that Good!
Salute to one of our Heros past.

RIP, Sam Okwaraji. You did your country proud.

Well done NFF president, Amaju Pinnick.

Please let Nigerians prevail on the present govt of Imo state to restore the Sam Okwaraji stadium back to the condition it met it in 2011 when it came to office.

below is the carcass of a modern stadium that was erected in memory of Sam Okwaraji by Imo state government in Orlu and commissioned by former president Obasanjo in 2007.

The present state governor partially damaged the stadium as soon as it came to office in 2011 and has left it to decay; no alternative since then.

Waskey Pele, that was the name that became a household name in Orlu following your escapades in football. The same name followed you when you came 3rd in the Country in the then Omo table tennis championship. At Orlu Zonal level, you emerged tops also in boxing tournaments. I still remember vividly your expertise in goal keeping as you were always at hand to coach Agundu our junior goalkeeper those good old days.
Sam Okwaraji, there is a lot the World do not know about you and your talents. Long before you became known, you had been the sparkling diamond of ESSO.
We are proud of the present Leadership of NFF that has deemed it fit to remember you. We join them and other well meaning Nigerians and your numerous fans all over the world to say Rest in peace.

While the Etims, Rufais, and Keshis were 'forming big boy'; requesting for the country to come get them with chatered flights, Sam always made the trip from his own pocket.

Sam deserves it. He was a patriotic Nigerian.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE , WAS WRITING MY COMMON ENTRANCE WHEN HE LAST PLAYED.

TOO BAD WE DONT HAVE PEOPLE LIKE HIM ANYMORE, NOT IN POLITICS, NOT IN OUR HOMES NOR CHURCHES.

WE DONT HAVE PATRIOTS AGAIN IN NIGERIA, JUST EMPTY BARRELS. undecided
