The listed methods really work. The problem with knowledge is it's really fickle; one has to keep refreshing it by reading the subject over and over to become long term memory with time. Carrying out research in school always kept the knowledge for three weeks to a month but without re-reading the output I always forgot completely after a year or two.
Stay smart people.

Mentality is a big step before and during education, while education is build block or foundation for mental develpoment, mentality and commonsense are just as important.

The biggest problem in Nigeria is mentality and commonsense.

1. Increase Television Watching – but use your imagination to determine what is practical and makes sense. Do not fall for propaganda and make believe.

2. Exercise– Alone is not enough, stop eating starchy, fat and carb intensive foods like gari, pounded yam, oily soups in abundance.

3. Read Challenging Books– on the origins of the planet, environment, innovation and diverse ways of improving human standard of living

4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise –Nothing makes it harder to focus than lack of sleep. But ensure you don't not marry more wives than you need and have more children than you can feed thereby causing congestion, density and pollution problems that will hinder sleep

5. Take Time to Reflect and Feel Better –Frequently our lives get so very busy - Because most Nigerians live above their means and as such are over occupied with material and irrelevant things that reduce life expectancy!

6. Engage in a Discussion - constructively and not constantly saying that god did this and that, majority of what happens around you are practically from human actions and nothing to do with fairies, spiritual, santa and the heavens - only brainless idiots think like that.

7. Do Some Research – find out if God actually exists and why the arabs and whites put the idea in your ancestors head to continue ruling your minds today. STOP calling whites and Asians master as if they are more important on the planet than you are. That's the sad and ugly trend here. Actually, most of us don't pay adequate attention to our development and progress. We are more interested in knowing what's happening in the lives of Tonto, Kanye West, Psquare and Timaya....Following those folks isn't a bad thing but it becomes worrisome when we pay more attention to their lives than we do to ours.

I was so shocked to have just seen this thread a few hours back though it was created months- many months ago.

We need to take our lives more seriously, and to do so, we just continue to add value to ourselves, just like those celebs we cherish are adding values to theirs.

OP, thanks for the article. It's yet another demonstration that some us are beginning to take our personal development very seriously. I agree with ALL your points.

I woke up 04:45 am, and exercised for about 45 minutes. Exercise makes you smarter and gives you the opportunity to even think as you're doing your aerobics. It's never a waste of time.

I've drastically reduced watching the TV. I just had to! And whenever I do watch, it must be those channels that will force me to think. I have enough books downloaded that for the past 6 months, I can count how many times I've watched the TV for more than 15 minutes at a time.

Reading challenging books is also very nice.

All in all, we must make very conscious efforts to increase our knowledge. Our knowledge, all we ever know, determines our attitudes, which in turn determines our perception of life.
