I doubt if I can make adequate justice to this topic, but I trust I'll try my best. This is in response to the mostly abusive comments posted on another thread where the OP sought to outline the major habits of the average black man. Race is a very sensitive issue. Trust most of the people to insult and abuse rather than see the angle the OP was coming from.

I've never questioned my race. Beyond all doubts, I know all races are equal, and none is superior to the other in any sense- at least by creation. The same God( atheists might disagree here) created ALL the races. Back. White. Name it. He created them all. All humans have the same brain cells, and have all the faculties that should enable them to live and design a better system for themselves.

So what's responsible for the embarrassing difference in development between Africa and the US, Europe, Asia etc? What's responsible for the distinction in class between these continents? Habits! Nothing more!

Man is a creation habits. His habits determine his life. His habits today determine the quality of life he hopes to enjoy tomorrow. His habits will make or mar him. And this is where Africans, especially Nigerians, have erred.

I'm writing this with all sincerity and hope that we shall see where we've erred and seek to address them OR continue to wallow in misery, poverty and backwardness. It's not intended to insult or abuse US in any way.

The Primitive Acquisition of Wealth!

This is one terrible habit if the average black person. All races are open to greed but the level that's being expressed in Africa is way beyond madness. It's just primitive. A few people have continued to bask in insulting wealth in the midst of of a vast ocean of poverty. We only receive; hardly gives. We hardly have spare thoughts for the welfare of others. Terrible.

Living For The Moment

Only few of us have thoughts for tomorrow. We hardly pay attention for the next decades. We're not bothered by tomorrow though it comes so fast. This terrible habit is exhibited by both followers and leaders. When we have leaders who are only interested in today, there's no way we catch up with the rest of the world. Leaders make plan for the future. I read Japan, I think so, has a 100 year plan, and are visibly working towards achieving that. We've shifted our Vision 2010 how many times?

Becoming a great nation takes a lot of time and effort. Nations aren't build in a day, month, year or even a decade. In takes decades to build strong nations.

Lack Of Genuine Interest In Science and Technology

Our annual budget says it all. So poor. To a large extent, the standard of living of a nation is determined by its advances in science and technology. How can we meet the rest of the world when we don't invest massively in science and technology? How can we move on when we still can't provide stable electricity? Check the annual education budgets of these developed nations! You'll understand why they got where are today! Pay attention to Japan and Korea. Just imagine how much Samsung, Hyundai, Sony, etc, make a year! Pathetic!

The Consumption Mentality

Nature favours the producer, not the consumer. God gives seed to the sower but BREAD to the EATER. We only consume. We had my produce. I recently went to a phone shop just to witness how much money Samsung gets from Nigeria alone! I've never stopped thinking! These folks have created a system and a brand that spins money like madness. And then they deliberately produce items that expire in chosen months or years and expect us to buy. We simply buy. A Nation that almost only consumes cannot be great. We must produce.

The Blame Game.

Africans, especially Nigerians, are still blaming the Whites, even after they left over 54 years ago. We simply can't solve our problems ourselves. Africa wasn't the only Continent that was colonised. Where was Malaysia a few decades ago? China? Korea, etc .These nations simply took their destiny in their own hands and have devised a system that has worked wonders. Africa is still blaming the Whites. Make una continue! Earlier today, I saw a joke thread mocking the cheap/ not so standard products from China! A Third World nation making jest of the world's 2nd largest economy!

Leadership, Leadership and Leadership!

This is the greatest resource any nation can have. Not crude oil. Not gold. Africa has been greeted with some of the most primitive and greedy leaders of all time. Once a nation misses it here, it's doomed. It's finished.

Leaders set the pace for the followers. Africa has very few visionary and focused leaders.

There are still many problematic issues that once solved sincerely, will catapult Africa and Nigeria from its present shameful state into glory, progress and the envy of the world.

Africa must take its own destiny into its hands. Nigeria must do this. We are what we repeatedly do. There's NOTHING wrong with the Black man. Only his habits keep dragging him backwards.

All men are born equal; it's their habits that separate them- Aristotle.

Yes, like calling it witch-hunting when any politician from your part of the country, of the same religion or political party is being prosecuted.

Need to see all the migrants forcing their ways into Europe as voluntary slaves to understand what the poster is all about. Of course we are inferior if we can't manage a relatively functional societies for all. Thing mere ants and bees do efficiently to the point that even organised man himself can hardly survive without those little creatures. We are just inferior to our humans but also to fellow little creatures we like to call animals. It is sad but obvious truth.

Thanks bro for joining in the issue. I knew from the onset some folks would rather attack the topic instead of dispassionately looking at the sole issue I've raised in the article, because they seek to escape from the bare facts that are staring them in the face.

I'm so happy you see my point in the article. Any sensible person knows that there's some fundamentally wrong issues with us. The points raised were intended to make us think so we could make our system the better. Unfortunately, we keep proving the Whites right by our deliberate refusal to seek appropriate knowledge and thereby grow and develop to the admiration of the whole world.

Humans are creatures of habits. Aristotle said ALL MEN ARE BORN EQUAL; IT'S THEIR HABITS THAT SEPARATE THEM.

If we can't manage to create steady power, build roads that will meet the future needs of our people, design a functional education system, manage a functional national database, create an enabling environment, provide potable water, then something is wrong somewhere.

We're a great people imbued with immeasurable talent and inestimable faculties, but we've not really harnessed them enough neither have we stretched ourselves to the limits.

As we change our habits, we change our lives and that of our future. As we change our habits, we alter our future for good.

As we alter our habits, we progress more and faster.

OP nice try, I just want to add more insight to your topic

1. Culture! Culture!! Culture!!!
Much of our culture needs to be reformed, some aspects need to be discarded while others need upgrade to conform with changing times.

2. Lack of Planning
Like you pointed out, "living for the moment" is a serious problem in Africa. When one lives for the moment, he is failing to plan. Eat and eat and eat without remaining for tomorrow, that's where we are. The government fails to plan, the individual fails to plan, therefore the society fails to progress.

3. Religion! Religion!! Religion!!!
We are too religious up to the point that it beclouds out rational judgement. Religion is about wisdom, truth and peace, not about class, deceit, bigotry and violence.

dearpreye, your presumptions about Africa and the black race are dead wrong. It's funny when you people say Africans do not have visionary leaders. In any case, what you should ask yourself is this: how did the current profligate rulers in Africa get to power in stead of the visionary ones? The moment you answer this question, half of the problems besetting us will be laid bare.

Compton was the American dream. Sunny California with a

Temptingly
close to the Los Angeles ghetto in the 50's and 60's, it
became "The Black American Dream." Open housing paved

Whites don't buy houses in Compton anymore. Now with
74% of the population, black power is the fact of life. From
banks to bowling alleys. But the dream that many blacks
thought they were buying has turned sour.

Though the mayor and four out of five city councilmen are black, they have been unable to solve the problems of crime and
growing welfare which is slowly turning suburban
Compton into an extension of the black inner city.

Crime is now as high as the ghetto. 47 homicides last year gave

Juvenile gang activity, muggings, small robberies make
some blacks want to leave

We are just not burdened and pained enough to change our habits and take the path of pain and sacrifice. We're still comfortable with the situation of things.

The ball is in our courts. We have all the mental, physical, intellectual and spiritual faculties to transform our society; we just don't want to use them.

Awesome piece Sir. In addition, please may I add that one big problem we suffer is to speak and speak. We talk about who does what, which politician can do this or that, what government is doing or isn't doing, etc. We complain all day, all week, all year round about the situations and people around us but we leave out the most important person we should blame, OURSELVES. Yes the only person you can blame for your predicament is YOU. If you do not realise that you have a problem, everyone you come across would be either mad, stingy, wicked or bad. Even when you fortunately meet that helper you have been seeking to come and take away all your troubles, you just might end up having a problem with them. That is because a successful man would not help a person that has got problems with themselves. They say successful people are stingy and all sorts of things, but honestly, they are just wise enough not to waste resources on a nuisance.

That is the reason people need to spend real time wasted on destroying themselves to actually reconstruct themselves. To do this, they need to start spending more time alone and asking themselves critical questions like how is it that some people are very successful and happy and many others are not. They need to ask themselves how they can become a part of those few people. Trust me, the moment you start to ask yourselves critical questions, you will find your life changing gradually while seeking answers to those questions.

People who had hit rock bottom in their lives and even attempted suicide due to frustration have been able to stand up, ask themselves why, and start to turn their lives around to become successful, happy, wealthy people. The answer lies in the MINDSET.
Even though many would not find this thread useful, I'm glad that as always a few would, and from this moment set a new course for their lives. Kudos to you OP smiley

Bro, that was the most racist, degrading, abusive, denigrating, insulting, piece I've ever read. P. W was an extremist to the core. I hate his words and arrogance....but a lot of his assertions are true to this day...we keep proving that iidiot right by our attitudes, beliefs and values.

Ever since I read that piece back in 2010, my life has improved dramatically as I took painful and deliberate steps in doing the exact opposite of his words. And I'm the better for it.
