The season is just starting. He is not yet in match rhythm. After two more matches, you will see Wayne Rooney if he doesn't injure. The most important thing is for him not to get injured as he is trying to get match rhythm.

It also shows he will not tire out too early in the season.

Despite the performance, I saw positives. Although he failed to trap two simple passes, he is better at the ball than last season. When the whole team play more cohesively, he will do better and score goals. By then he would have gained full match fitness. That is the way I see it.

I think the 180 minutes he had in the preseason was not enough to prepare him well for the start of the season. I am convinced Rooney cannot keep playing like this. I am sure.

As for those claiming Chicha should have come it. They know nothing about football. Removing Rooney will cause more harm and shatter him completely. He will need to play five to seven matches before the coach can consider substituting him.

Lool! I've never been a Rooney hater. The only time i argued wit u abt Rooney was his position in the 2012/13 season

maybe its better januzaj takes rooney's position because he has a better eye for goal than than that 300k fat boxer. Let the fatso stay behind him since his brain has been configured to only play midfield but his jealousy at others scoring the goals keeps wanting him to play in that position. As it is, fatty is not gonna score up to five goals this season.

Those who said the performance was poor don't know what they are saying. Van Gaal is getting it right. The team will get better for sure. It is better to take less risk in our play as we just assembled a new team. In EPL you have to defend before you attack. Last season we were spreading too thin on the pitch. That was also David Moyes mistake. Now Gaal is making our defenders to be less ambitious. You can hardly catch a last man on one vs one.

This team will be great. I see nothing wrong in our defence as people suggest. Smalling did very well except on one occasion he passed straight in danger area to an opponent but we escaped.

Rooneymay have been poor, but honestly not too many quality balls got to opposition final third as we built too carefully. It was only after the subs we pressed well. Our defence is also playing deep which means we will push forward less.

Overall, I see a great team in the making. Mephis will be good. He is a young player in a new league.


Lest I forget. Romero is a good goalkeeper. His knows his box very well.

Gaal has leant to play many men behind the ball. That's a big plus for us this season.

You can't expect him to play like Suarez as a 9,then the next match play like Scholes as a 10,and the next like Ribery as a 7,.....and back as Suarez the next match

He has clearly lost that striker's movement,sharpness and touch simply because of matches as a midfielder....
Big difference between getting the ball ,control and spray passes and make yourself available for the ball AND Facing two defenders or waiting and moving around to finish a dead ball........

He even had to control the ball that caused Walker's goal when all he needed was a touch,Midfielders often control the ball....

All Rooney needs to do is to avoid injuries. He has a good balance on the ball. Only match rhythm left for him and cohesion in our build up play.

With three games within two weeks, he should be getting into gear by next weekend.

Carrick didn't do shitte,
Normally he'll control possession brilliantly didn't see any of that yesterday.
Bastian did better than him.
Darmain did well but has no offensive game whatsoever I expect shaw to be charging down that left wing since Darmain is too defensive.
Mata for all his assist and ,beautiful pass to Memphis made some horrible passes and was easily dispossess,can't afford that against better team.
Memphis still hasn't impressed I thought we got our own Hazard in this guy ? Hopefully he gets better.
Smalling and Blind did well Smalling was my MoTM,
Rooney was bad,very bad my confidence in him took a severe beating in this match.
I think we've to start Hernadez under the pretence of resting Rooney for the next EPL game.

You know am no Rooney hater but that was rock bottom yesterday.
Hopefully he'll find his rhythm like you say though I should point out that we really can't afford the time for our captain to be re learning the tricks of the trade.
Still think Hernadez should start the qualifer game we'll just say we're resting Rooney.
