I feel windows 8.1 isn't prone to virus. Or if it is, I am thinkinof downloading bit defender or avast , suggest.

Personal Opinion:
I don't think you need one. Your Windows Defender is more than capable, just be ready to update it every 2-3days. With Windows Defender there is a gain in performance, so...

Bit defender or avast?

I use Avira but 90% of my time is on linux, so i can't really say which AV is the best as i hardly use them, work laptop uses McAfee Enterprise but that slows the system. try avira

I recommend BitDefender... But it gonna give you some problem if you are using the Mtn SimpleServer thing.

Windows comes with an anti-virus. Switch to a different antivirus only if you have some evidence that it's better than Windows Defender.

Window xp is better than window 8.1

It depends on the work u do with it,if u are an online worker or music/video/application downloader,u really need it o. That was how they told me that windows 8.1 system virus protector can help till I was hit wit one stubborn virus,I lost files.

But now I use Avast but u must be updating it,even windows protect u can update but 2/3 days interval.

No you don't. Microsoft security essentials (Windows defender) works just fine

I've been using the windows defender that came with my laptop since two years now. It's doing the magic for me.
I once installed kaspersky and I realized my cooling fan started running on high speed nonstop. I quickly uninstalled and I haven't use another AV since then.
Just update Windows defender and try do a full scan once in a while and you will be just fine.
