POPULAR Islamic scholar Sheik Muyideen Bello has declared that a Muslim man will be doing himself more harm by marrying just one wife and the minimum number any should go for should be two.

Speaking during a lecture titled Legal Marriage :
Sheikh Bello advised that Allah even instructed man to marry at least two wives.

He added that restricting himself to one wife denies a man of many of the pleasures of marriage, such as a variety of food.

Sheikh Bello said: “Allah said a man should marry any kind of woman he likes, so as a man, if you want to marry a fair-complexioned or dark woman, marry her. Allah said we should start from two women, although I know women will not like to hear this.

“If you have to marry, start with two women, which is what the Quran says and the Yorubas have a saying that a man with one woman isn’t a real man.

For instance if you are married to one wife and she over-salts your food, you don’t have a choice than to eat the food or buy food outside.”

He added that he receives so many messages from people asking why he encourages polygamy but he replies by saying it is not him but Allah that says so. According to the Sheikh, as a Muslim, four women is the maximum a man can have and Allah is happy with such arrangement.
