Bukola Saraki after hijacking the key positions in the Senate from the APC-appointed candidates for himself with the PDP’s help is trying to reconcile with the APC leadership and personally Muhammadu Buhari . But it turned out that Buhari and the APC leadership refuse to accept Saraki’s apologies.

Recent reports have shown that Bukola Saraki is trying to find the ways to bury the hatchet of cold war with the APC leadership and Muhammadu Buhari after he hijacked the key positions in the Senate on June 9 with help of some PDP members. But it turned out that Buhari and the APC leaders refuse to accept Saraki’s apologies.

According to these reports, a group of senators loyal to Bukola Saraki have met Muhammadu Buhari this week with the purpose of finding ways of reconciliation with him and the leadership of the APC party.

The group included the Senate leader, Ali Ndume, accompanied by Senators Abdullahi Adamu, Adamu Aliero, Danjuma Goje and Kabiru Gaya.

Earlier Bukola Saraki reportedly arranged meetings with Olusegun Obasanjo and the Emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi with the same purpose of reconciliation.

According to some reports, Ndume also made a trip to Lagos to meet Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership on the same matter. However, these reports haven’t been verified by Ndume.

The press gathered evidence that the meeting of the group of Saraki’s loyalists with Buhari, which took place a couple of days ago at presidential villa in Abuja wasn’t successful.

It was reported previously that Muhammadu Buhari refused to host Bukola Saraki at Aso Rock since he emerged as the President of the Senate in the controversial election on June 9.

It seems like Saraki’s peace group wasn’t able to change Buhari’s point of view about that despite Saraki’s emissaries reportedly apologised for their own roles in the NASS crisis.

A source close to Ahmed Lawan who was supposed by Buhari and the APC to embrace the senate presidency, has told the press that “we were aware of the meeting between the President and the affected Senators,” adding that “they [Saraki’s loyalists] said they are after peace, but without putting options on the table.”

Another source in the APC party told the press that “Saraki’s loyalists stuck to their script which has put the Senate on the edge and created mutual distrust between the President and the Senate President.”

At the same time Lai Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, said that while he can’t comment on the issue of the meeting between Buhari and Saraki’s emissaries, “the APC has made its position on party supremacy known.”

A source in Tinubu’s camp confirmed that “Tinubu’s take is that the senate should toe the party line. It is not a personal problem at all. If it were a personal problem, the President won’t be reacting the same way.”

A source at the meeting with Buhari, who pleaded anonymity, reportedly said: “It was actually a family affair thing. When you see a threat coming, you do not need to wait till it becomes a bigger challenge.“

What is there to apologize for?

There comes a time when we all do the honorable thing in our life, and in Saraki's case, he should do the needful by just resigning his position as the Senate President, and then we can now look into accepting his apologies for being disloyal to his party.

There is a reason why people belong to political parties, there are reasons why a political party should have control of her members, and there are reasons people are either ostracized or out-rightly punished when they err in political parties.

It is the only leverage a political party has over its members. The Political "Butrus" displayed by Saraki and Dogora some months back, should have the party come down hard on them, this is not the time Saraki and his foot soldiers should be running from one persons door to another. The APC is not a one man party, the APC has a whole has been insulted by his bushwhacking tactics and he needs to be punished publicly.

He will need the APC for his future political sailor-ship, and he knows this and this is where the APC has all the leverage.

The Change Movement is far larger than Saraki's Greedy Quest. Saraki's biggest undoing is his dubious allegiance with the PDP. He should decide if he wants to be in PDP or APC. He can't have his fingers all over the places.

Why should they accept his apologies when he, Saraki himself refused their pleas in the first place. Will accepting his apologies undo what has been done? undecided

If the APC was a millitary institution or any institution were discipline is key, Saraki's restitution will be to resign and tender an unreserved apology to the party. He sold the soul of the apc to the pdp for a plate of porridge. That porridge now seems to be too hot. I could imagine what the cold war is doing to him, and the state of his conscience won't do him any good.

I support the actualization of odua republic, unlike my coward folks. ..I prefer sophisticated and progressive Odu'a republic than this nigeria. ..

Hausa/Fulani are not our kins...they should learn to fight for their own war and achieve their arewa republic. .

.....yorubas should concentrate their energy on the actualization of odua republic instead mocking the brave biafrans. ..it's a great feat to withstand a combined efforts of yorubas and Hausa/Fulani plus the western powers....I don't think any other nigerian ethnic group can do that. ..

I've got some reservation over the source of this news, but if truly there's some substance to it, I'd say Saraki's sin is, to me, unpardonable. Defying party's directive is one thing but diluting the leadership of the Senate at the topmost level is another thing all together. As long as Ekweremadu, a PDP member, remains there, I don't see anyone forgiving Saraki.

This is politics, and in this game, you don't fortify the defenses of your opponent- you try to diminish them. Simple.

The definition of politics in igbo language simpply put:ndoro doro ochichi! So from the igbo piont of vie, politics has been the might take it all. If Bukolasarki has been so powerful enough to hijack the system for his favour, why do we worry ourselves? To me and my igbo brothers I believe he define politics.

Compromise is a key word for building a strong and cohesive political party. All parties should embrace compromise, reconcile and move ahead. They should lay less emphasis on resolution and individual differences.

I still don't get the need to stab your own president and your own party in the back just for a measly senate position. Even doing so is one thing, but doing it with the help of the opposition is another thing.

It's like colluding with armed robbers to rob your own family house.. How do you expect people, to trust you and your judgement from here on. ?
