anulaxad: You are talking incoherent crap here. Please tell me, what is the population of SE versus that of SW, NW, NC and NE? Let's even exclude tribal populations since we do not have one now. Why does the SE have less total population than the other regions? Simple answer: (1) reduction in number of kids and to a lesser extent (2) emigration (travel) of the population. I have mentioned both in my opening post. Now go to bed. |

kestolove95: It will be if you live in Nigeria and one day you come out of your house and there are people right outside it because there is no other space to stand. It will be if you start getting sick due to worsened sanitation and environmental issues It will be if there are too many people for available food and people start looking at you like food. |

We cannot do much about the different land masses in different Nigerian zones because they are fixed, but we can do something about the population increase because it is unfixed. The first step is to ask in which parts of Nigeria is the rate of population increase higher? That is, who is giving birth to 10 children (high rate) versus who is giving birth to 3 (low rate), irrespective of the land mass? By continuing to give birth to less number of kids, states currently with high population density (due to less land mass) will see lower population densities in the next few years. |

astrodome: Actually China has begun to relax its one-child policy, but I get your point. The issue here is that we have relied on "population figures" as a tool for sharing of oil money for so long. One day however, we will have no choice but to rebalance this economy from one based on sharing to one based on productivity. When that happens, those of us who like to boast using their population figures will be forced to think of how to feed and educate their people from decreased revenue. We'll sit up by then. |

it's high time we start exporting some of the populace to colonize other parts of the world Besides Biafrans are leaving soon. it is a welcome development |
Re: Nigeria's Economy Can't Cope With Current Population, NPC Boss by astrodome: 6:35pm On Aug 27, 2015 |
tevinsolt: But Biafra leaving will not make a serious dent on the population of the North, where the main overpopulation problem is stemming from. |

Re: Nigeria's Economy Can't Cope With Current Population, NPC Boss by astrodome: 6:51pm On Aug 27, 2015 |
tevinsolt: Sure, but if a large part (after Biafra has left) of Nigeria's population remains unproductive with a high birth rate how does that help? Remember also that Biafra leaving will affect the economy as well (import duties; foreign remittances; revenue from nollywood; some oil revenue from Imo, Abia and potentially, Anambra; personal income taxes; corporate taxes from companies in the SE, etc) |

astrodome: Everything will be fine or maybe not, the break would have at least solve Nigeria's biggest problem, the rest will be figured out a step at a time. it just like a break up, it is first uncomfortable and new, but eventually the parties involve grow out of it and learn to leave without each other. |

all this story of north been overpopulated is rubbish, before the beginning!!! Britain doctord nigeria census to favor the north for the resin best known to them and since then the north continue in that fashion, having landmass does not automatically translate to population density.imagine kano having a population higher than lagos! well in the zoo every thing is optenable |

astrodome: Hehe, have I not shown you what the population difference is between all the major ethnic groups in this country already? , you sound so silly, honestly it is so easy to counter all the nosense you say here. Ok,this is your foolish reasoning: smaller state means bigger population due to less space. Not even kids are this ignorant. Ok I shall end this argument here, Is Osun,Ekiti,Ebonyi,Abia,Akwa ibom,Rivers,Enugu or even Abuja as densely populated as Anambra or Imo? They are similar in land area right, so why are they not as densely populated as Anambra or Imo. You don't have to be an expert to understand that those two states are just naturally overpopulated. I won't make a fool out of you, your doing a good job of that yourself. Admitting this truth at hand will not kill you. |

While serving in the South East, Enugu to be precise, about 7 years ago, I met a monogamist family with ten kids and counting. I have never seen any monogamy family in the South West with ten kids in one full swoop , save for those practising polygamy. The truth is that - polygamy in the South West is overrated - because in most cases, the average number of kids per woman is still lower than what is obtained in the South East. This is where I fault the opinion(s) of some posters up there. Many contemporary monogamist families from the East, still have up to six kids these days, this is more higher in the rural areas. This is the exact reason why many Igbo families in the East are only able to sponsor their kids up to JSS 3, or at best, SS 3. I noticed this during my stay in the East. The immediate cause of this is that many kids start to fend for themselves thereafter by migrating to "learn trade" in commercial cities like Lagos, Onitsha, Aba e.t.c. However, I agree that some contemporary Igbo families do have smaller numbers, the average number of kids per family remains a subject of dispute. I will conservatively put this at a number of 4 kids per monogamy family. In the South West, I expect higher figures in Oyo and Osun where the influence of polygamy is still very strong. Ekiti and Ondo tend to have higher monogamist tendencies though, followed by Ogun and Lagos. I will still conservatively put the average number of kids "per woman" in the South West as four (4). |
