You people are thieves. This is one appointment that is completely in order and beneficial to the country at large. With dwindling oil revenue and especially with the penchant of Nigerians to import everything thus crucifying the naira revenue from international trade cannot be toyed with to balance the books and stabilise the naira. If the Hameed fellow is indeed disciplined, then it is the right peg to plug the hole the customs has been drilling in our collective wealth. It is your fault. You fellows are too corrupt and barely professional. |

Whilst the view and opinions of the writer is valid, ild beg to disagree. There are times organizations need an outsider who owes no favors to the existing cadre come in to implement a change strategy. The customs as it were are next deep in corruption which has been for over decades. An internal person can't do a good job towards improving lives of us Nigerians. Where it's said that The service is respected globally makes me cringe. What are the clearing times in Nigeria compared to what holds globally. When you take a financial analytical view, you will know that if 70pc of local consumption is imported, then next to our oil exports, Customs should be our second highest revenue generating unit. Managing the customs effectively will not only generate revenue but also protect Nigerian businesses by stopping illegal and substandard imports which NAFDAC has to spend our billions in budget to curb. We are making forwards like never before. Let's come together to support the current administration towards a new Nigeria we can be proud of. |

babafirst:yeah, but its going to be an uphill battle for him. but i very much doubt EFCC would be given to a northerner. too many have held it since inception. |

MakeMoves:An outsider who is very old and was a soldier can never understand the internal workings of Nigerian customs n will fail badly. Are u trying to say that it will be good for an Engineer to head NBA in order to cleanse it from corruption ![]() |

akindeleadeolu:The President has no advisers /ministers. He takes unilateral decisions maybe because he belongs to nobody. He should have reasoned that the Customs rank and file may not be happy with the idea of non of their own being their boss. They can really make things difficult for this man and frustrate his efforts - if they want. |

Bobbystanley:Whose illiteracy are you talking about? Definitely yours I sincerely believe. I believe you do not want to know why the last comptroller-general threw in the towel. It's an assignment for your lazy brain. The question that should be asked by your illiterate mind is if the president has broken any law with his appointment. The change is indeed here and if you don't want it head for Otuoke and live in GEJ's paradise where you will serve him better as a shoe shiner. |

IdisuleOurOwn:common sense should tell you that apointing someone who was not a custom officer will breed more corruption and incompetence. Don't you know that officers will noe do whatever they wish and he will never hear about it. He will be seen as a sheep leading goats... |

Na tru tok. Buhari should as well appoint a customs man to head the military. This is plain wrong. |

safarigirl:You're one of the few smart folks around, that's why I'm doing this. There's really no law that stops the President from appointing a non custom man as the head of the agency. Osita Chidoka became the head of FRSC from being an Advisor at Mobil, the gist at the time was that the President was impressed with his research in transport management. Col Kayode Are was appointed the DG of SSS and he was a retired soldier. There was no noise at the time because these guys where brought in to breathe a fresh lease of life into the system. Buhari is simply doing the same thing. The Nigerian Custom Service is a security organization, the new head is a retired Colonel, do you really think it is a case of square pegs in round holes? |

nkowaputa:bro, are u just bn mischievious or u just dnt knw? A team is as good as d leader. A lion can lead a herd of sheep but a sheep can never lead a lion. A military, police, custom, navy, airforce can work in a top position of security architecture wit little or no problem. Same way an accountant, economist, or finance expert can work in financial institution without any hitch. A nurse, medical scientist, doctor, pharmicist can become d cmd of an hospital and will run fine. I gave dose examples to show dat some discipline can intertwine effortlessly without issues, so dose of u using an engineer to go head cbn as examples are just either bn malicious or genuinly ignonrant. Lastly, leadership is about will and taking decisions. He wuld definately have assitants from within d custom so i dnt see wat d hullabaloo is all about. |

grandstar:Stop abusing the freedom Internet bestows on you. You example does not tally. Customs like civil defence is a paramilitary organisation. A police man can head either of them but either of them cannot head the military or police. It should make sense to you. |
| Re: Outsider Emerging Customs Boss Rubbishes Career Progression – Group Tells Buhari by abubkhr: 1:24pm On Aug 29, 2015 |
The question is Mr. Hamid Ali is ge the first outsider to head custom office? If he is you have a point but on the contrary then you should shot your mouth and concentrate on your job if you are lucky you might head your organization one day. |
| Re: Outsider Emerging Customs Boss Rubbishes Career Progression – Group Tells Buhari by donte4real: 1:37pm On Aug 29, 2015 |
Bringing an outsider will demoralize d officers. Besides he has no experience in d custom service. I don't see aw corruption will be curbed by putting a square peg in a round hole. |

mbulela:Customs may be a paramilitary institution but a round peg must be placed in round holes. It may be far more complicated than it looks. |
