Another way of seeing this is by:

1) Turn Off Chat (right hand lower corner)
2) Refresh the page.
3) Look through your disabled chat list (right hand lower corner), whatever number of people are shown in that list are in the same order as in the list in source code.

This is not the number of times a friend stalked you. They're just friends who recently chatted with you, viewed your timeline or picture(s), liked or commented on any of your facebook stuffs.
