They have been blinded by their greed, but they are minority, and we the majority must not let them enslave their and our unborn generation in this cursed union just to preserve their greed for fame and material things. #Nation- Family- God. oluspencer: OYO was not defeated by Hausa Fulani. The defeat you are talking about was in the hands of Ilorin led by Afonja an OYO man. Afonja was the Are ona Kankan ofo, the leader of the Oyo army. So, for the leader of the Oyo army to have waged a war against his own people, that's to tell you it was an internal crisis. The Ilorin army that sacked Oyo ile were led by Yoruba generals. 3 Likes |

chuna1985: Guy, be careful about saying what you know little about. Oyo kingdom never extended into Igbo enclave, that is not in doubt. But evidently the Bini empire (under Oba Eware the Great) did conquer and colonize Ika-Igbos and made them tributaries (in present-day Anioma/Asaba axis of Delta state), unless you wanna deny their being igbos. Which explains the heavy Bini-influence in those parts. 1 Like |

It took the colonial masters 35 years to conquer igbo land, that should show u why no one dared to attack d weak igbos. 2 Likes |

chuna1985: Look, there's no point flogging a dead horse. That Bini influence extended into the present-day Onitsha in the SE as the Aniomas and Onitshas are practically one and same people separated by the Niger. Truth is, we are talking about a period of time when most tribes weren't really united under an umbrella of "Yoruba", "Igbo", "Hausa-Fulani" appellation or whatever. The Arochukwu saw themselves as distinct from the Nris and made the raiding, enslaving/selling, and kidnapping of their kinsmen a preferred pastime. Those were the days of unbriddled brutality and inhumanity all over Africa and much of the world. To say that Igbos were never at any point 'conquered' by either their own kin or outsiders is nothing but a fantasy. 2 Likes |

Ugomba: Don't mind them. Yoruba were the easiest people to conquer by the British. Even Bini conquered them once a upon a time. The Igbo were the hardest to conquer and even after British colonized all Nigeria, it was srilll Igbo that kept on fighting them even during colonization. The yoloba should thank middle belt, if not for them, the Fulani colonization of them wouldn't be en just in illorin, it would have been the entire sw land. 2 Likes |

pazienza: Go and read his speech on Northern attempt at secession. Its full of revelations why he wanted and fought for a unitary system. It is now as it was then. The spread of Ibo across Nigerian cities did not start today....he was an ethnic leader fighting ethnic interests but he fretted and panicked in the fear of what might be if Northerners succeeded in seceeding. His remedy to right the drift produced overzealouness that backfired negatively, first in 1963, second in 1966 and third in 1967. Biafra is a political struggle, it cannot be won with economic mobility. Ibos think by spreading away from home and establishing economic footprint in diffrrent ethnic regions equates to political victory for them. Nothing can be more insane! As someone, an Iboman, retardly shared in few posts earlier, if I buy phone and clothes from him he has scored political advantage over me. Everywhere in world people for indigenous rights and independence it is done firmly from the homefront, not from scattered frontiers located in different places miles apart. This is what Ojukwu accomplished by calling for a return home. The outcome was a successful declaration and he could have gained more from there.....if he had focused and remained in his territory instead of invading territories that are non Biafrans. Ibos have learnt lessons....but are they smart enough to apply lessons learnt and make Biafra a reality, or will Ibo continue living the wrong priorities while shouting Biafra every time its political advantage is reversed? 5 Likes |

Jaideyone:IGNORAMUS, so having empires is now a criteria for greatness. Now listen the Igbos love being free and that is why the igbos have autonomous communities even till today the empire thing is not the way we flow we have no need for one. We dnt believe we are under any human being we believe in God that is why we will always have problem with Nigeria which is a white mans creation. The only time we came close to forming what looked like an empire, the entire Nigeria couldn't defeat us and had to invite the so called white men to intervene and even at that they didn't find it easy and the civil war ended no Victor no Vanquished which was just words put together to oil the ego of the so called nigerians because they where heavily beaten. Yes we may hv appeared weak and chased bush meat, but then have ever heard the saying never touch the tail of a lion whether its dead or alive. Well I dnt expect u or any of ur cohorts to understand and as usual u pple are going to select certain areas of my comment to make ur vituperative utterances. But I realised that u pple do so cos u re used to lies and those utterances are the only things u can tell yourselves so as to cure or calm ur insomnia 2 Likes |

Jaideyone:I refuse to reply you because your source was bogus. Wikipedia is not a credible source. It was probably written by a yoruba revisionist. And no, oyo kingdom was not an empire. it had no foreign territories of note. Infact it lost it own territories. And yes, you guys are cowards. The only credible threat that came via colonialism saw you guys prostrating like insects even before they landed. Just thank your stars the oyo kingdom did not extend its madness down east. onenaira3: Instead of acting a fool and talking crap about what you know nothing about you can easily pick up a book and read up on how the Fulanis were decisively defeated by the Yorubas at Osogbo, a feat that forever perished the thought of their ever venturing into our lands ever since. The middle-belt didn't in any way hinder the Fulani ambitions up until that decisive defeat. Google is your friend. None of your grandstanding can alter the fact that the British regarded Igbos as slavish, subservient and docile towards the whiteman, in contrast to the Yorubaman; at least Harold Smith, one of the colonial officers the British Government sent to rig Nigeria’s pre-independence elections, thought so according to his autobiography:

OduaVanguard:why you guys dwell in deceit is what I find difficult to understand. The original oyo capital called oyo ile was destroyed never to be recovered again. Illorin was taken never to be recovered again and you are blabbing. The fulani moved on to attack Ibadan but all yoruba army gathered to fight just a band of fulani warriors and you are rejoicing. Yes the fulanis were pushed back at oshogbo and the recamped at Illorin planning a massive attack on your useless army. They assembled a calvary of about 20000 men. It was only the British that saved you all. If not so you would have been roundly defeated. The fulanis know this so well that's why they don't take you guys seriously. You're a defeated people already. Anybody can research what I wrote her and prove me wrong. 1 Like |

I know you hate to admit it but the Oyo empire had a system of king, king maker, war chiefs and law makers long before the colonial era. if that is not greatness to you then I now understand why ibos don't have such history 2 Likes |
