Until we start punishing looting of public fund by death sentence and forfeiture of assets, the fight against corruption won't subside. In China, it's your family members that will buy the bullet for your execution. If someone who stole and killed a fowl can be sentenced to death in Nigeria (it's a fact), why not for looters of public fund ![]() |

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Thursday declined comment on whether looters should be sentenced to death or not. ![]() |

Chiefpriest1:Mr. Man, stealing of public funds is what we are talking about here. The other examples u gave here are very different as they have nothing to do with the development of the country by those elected to do so. They steal the money meant to make lives better for us and u say they should be pampered. You must have benefitted from one or two public office holders hence your sympathy toward them. IMO, If found guilty of stealing public funds, kill'em all!!!!!!!!! |

Heheheh, life imprisonment? Anyway, I just hope someday, Govt. won't claim that the prisons are too congested, hence the need to free some of the inmates. |

I support shooting a looter. The rope is old and archaic. Take his life and rid the world of iniquity. People die everyday due to accidents emanating from bad roads, potholes, poor and decaying infrastructure all over this country and it is just very few looters who are responsiboe for the massive poverty pervading the populace. Rid the world of these looters and let's have a saner society made up of good schools, hospitals, electricity, pipeborne water and motorable roads. |

abimic:Looters cannot even live inside prison for 2years. They would die off .. |

Chiefpriest1:You have NOT spoken well. If a " Hungry " student obtains N5,000 dubiously from his parents, how many people does it affect ? Just 2 people. If your state governor or Perm Sec ministry of Finance diverts N5bn for his personal use, how many people does it affect ? Over 3miilion inhabitants of your state. There are categories of crimes as enshrined in the constitution. Corruption is an embodiment of many crimes. The crime we are considering here is called LOOTING and EMBEZZLEMENT of public funds. I tire for some comments. |

they are afraid to die because they want to live to spend their loots |
| Re: Governors Reject Death Penalty For Looters by BushidoBlue(m): 10:52am On Sep 11, 2015 |
Chiefpriest1:Let me add this, Are they referring to looters alone or corrupt people in general? If it's about corrupt Nigerians then anyone who is caught jumping the traffic light should be added to the list. Anyone jumping queues should be added to the list also. People seem to forget that looters aren't the only corrupt ones. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. |

Icecream4U:U r right but what I'm saying here is that there are other penalties which we could use eg Banned from holding political positions, lose 99% of all properties, serving jail term etc. |
| Re: Governors Reject Death Penalty For Looters by disloman(m): 12:14pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
ModiKen:What if I stole 20B naira n I pay d price.Won't my family still enjoy d loot?Recovery of looted funds is paramount. When I steal money n I know that more than what I stole will b taken from mi,that's what will scares mi.Death penalty didn't stop d chinese from corruption cos we still hearing cases. |

engrkenny:how do you track every investment? You think a thief will be stupid to do investment in his name? What about the money they will put into foreign accounts? Till date they are still recovering abacha's loot. |
| Re: Governors Reject Death Penalty For Looters by Icecream4U(m): 1:02pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
disloman:they can only lose 99% of the properties when you know 100% of the properties. Since they know they will lose 99% of it they will be smarter in hiding it. |

disloman:you hear cases of public office holders looting public funds in china? Also, death penalty doesn't mean the looted funds won't be recovered. |

I strongly believe these workers don't know coming to work late is also corruption. Be careful with things you clamor for... |

jerseyboy:if we were against the death penalty for drug peddlers in Malaysia, then we should be against death penalty for corruption too.... Rather life sentence with hard Labour should be better. Personal opinion though |
| Re: Governors Reject Death Penalty For Looters by amobyk29: 2:48pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
Chiefpriest1:if they are being sentenced for just 5years, they will just go in there and chill off only to come back to continue. If China and small Ghana did it (death sentence) and are better, then why not the said "Giant of Africa?" For crying out loud, we have tolerated so many none.sense in this country all in the name of Leadership. So I say to Labour Congress and everyoda Nigerian advocating for "Death Sentence" to kip up the good fight. |

D decision of d governors is not up to 0.1% of the masses decision, and we vote them in. Death sentence stands if they steal to unreasonable rate that affect deeply on the economy. But if it is casual stealing humiliation should be considered. ( taking the once they steal and the one they have to boost the economy) |

amobyk29:My brother, I get your point. However, Nigeria is more complex than you think. At least, we have to start somewhere. For the past sixteen years, aside Bode George, I am not sure any other politician has served just two years. Apart from that, we are divided along ethnic, religious and political lines. Kill ex-president Jonathan for example and watch the niger delta shut down our oil dependent economy. Kill IBB and watch our brothers up north turn that axis to a slaughter slab. Kill okorocha that's when you will know that he has supporters. Those societies you talked about are more homogeneous than nigeria. Every action here is first examined through ethnic, religious and political prisms. |

D decision of govornors is not up to 0.1% of masses decision, we vote them in. Death purnishment stands. If dey steal to unreasonable rate death is recomendable. But if they steal minimal humiliation is advised. (taking what they stole and the one they have) |

| Re: Governors Reject Death Penalty For Looters by ModiKen(m): 4:52pm On Sep 11, 2015 |
disloman:U think the govt would just find u guilty and execute u, without tracing and recovering the funds....? U'v gat to be kidding me. BTW, yes the death penalty didn't end corruption in China in fact it is still very high in the country (though not as high as that of Nigeria) but it reduced it to a large extent and it is part of the larger reason why the country has moved forward. N.B, there is no corruption free country in the world; Denmark however has the lowest level of corruption, (92%). I gave an example that judging from how the the death penalty reduced kidnapping in several states in naija, applying it to the corruption issue won't be a bad choice. We Nigerias act anyhow when we know there is little or no consequence to our actions but when our lives are threatened, we sit up. |
