Whats The Cost Of Opening An Average Photo Studio? by datkoded(m): 1:25pm On Sep 15, 2015
Since I was a kid, I have always had a passion For photography and Cameras. Though a science student, i attended lessons in photography and graphical designing. I have done part time modelling for many organisations back then in school and it was fun. Anyways, I would like to open an average photography studio... I would like to know the things I should watch out for, the estimated cost of opening one and recommend a good camera for me... Please someone should help out. Funding is not a problem, just don't wanna make mistakes.

Quality Tutorials, Camera, Prime Lens or Prime Zooms, Solid Tripod, Studio Strobe Light, Soft boxes or Umbrella, Light Reflectors, Studio Background Props. These are the Basic Studio Setup you need..
As for Tutorials, I have torrent files I can share with you teaching the Fundamentals or Photography. I bought the tutorials but I can share it with you or better still check creativelive dot com. Download and watch them. Even before buying your camera you can watch them and learn a great deal and when you get all your gears you won't be having much problems. Buying tutorials or watching is the first step.

For Cameras, Professional Full-Frame or Beginner Or Enthusiasts APS-C OR CROP FRAME. I'll advise you start out with Crop Frame. They're cheaper affordable and yet give quality images and if you have extra booze you can go FULL-FRAME at once. Tutorials would direct you better.

For lenses, try not to buy the default lenses that comes with you camera. Lenses that are in this format arec great
50mm F/1.2, 50mm F/1.4, 50mm F/1.8, 35mm with anything not more than F/2.8 will be ok even if it's a Zoom lens of like 70-200mm F2.8. Your camera is just as important as your lens.
As for Tripod buy good quality ones. The one made of carbon fiber are lighter and durable.

For Strobe Light, Soft boxes and umbrella and Reflector, go for the famous brand "Godox" they re inexpensive and good.

In the next comment, I'll suggest the equipments you can go for

For Cameras from Low to Highly recommended
For Crop-Frame
Canon EOS 60D
Canon EOS 70D
Canon Rebel t5i
Canon Rebel T6i
Canon EOS 7D
Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Canon Full-Frame
Canon EOS 6D
Canon EOS 5D MK II
Canon EOS 5D MK III
For the Canon Crop-Frame, the T6i and the 7D Mark II and 7D are very good and for Full-Frame, you won't go wrong with any of the three.

For Nikon Crop Frame
Nikon D90
Nikon D3300
Nikon D5200
NIKon D5500
Nikon D7000
Nikon D7100 highly recommended
Nikon D7200 highly recommended

And for Full-Frame
Nikon D700
Nikon D600 (I own this) and I highly recommend it. Very affordable
Nikon D610
Nikon D800
Nikon D750
Nikon D810

For price range I stay in China and things like these are very cheap here. You can check online for these prices.

For Strobe Light is use Godox D3300. I got it for like 85 dollars for each unit. I got 3 Units and also Godox Soft boxes and reflectors.

These will be ok to start a studio for good start.

Nikon D750 is a better camera to the Nikon D600..

Nikon D600 is 1,349.00Dollars while the Nikon d750 is around 1,583.99Dollars.. There was an Oil In Sensor issue with the Nikon D600 so its no more in production so you might not find it in the Nigerian market but the one i use hasn't given me any problem or whatsoever.. Without doubt go for the Nikon D750 if you have the money. Checkout http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-D600-vs-Nikon-D750/specs#

Thank you. I stand for quality and any amount spent for a good gadget is worth it. Want to do more of fashion and architecture blogging so am looking at something hi-tech and world class. What of lenses that go with the d750? I need to know what I need for the fashion architecture blogging?

A Nikon 50mm F/1.4 or Nikon 50mm F/1.8, OR Nikon 35mm F/1.4, Nikon 24-70mm F/2.8 and Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 or Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8 for more Telephoto zoom for Fashion Blogging
And for Architecture, A wide angle is basically needed so The same Nikon 24-70mm F/2.8 or a Tamron 15-30mm F/2.8 will be great or any other very wide angle lenses.

You can get Nikon 3200 that comes with a kit lens.

My Advice.. Add some bucks and get 3300 or 5200.

I'm a Nikon Fan! smiley

I don't want to create a new thread for this.

I notice that Nigerians always place Canon Products ahead of Nikon. And you as a Nikon fan, I saw you recommending Canon for Video some time ago.

But when I compare Nikon and Canon Products in the same category online, most times.. The Nikon Wins. I use snapsort.com.

For example;
Nikon D5300 vs Canon 70D (it's a tie), but an average Nigerian would choose 70D over D5300.

Before I buy D5300 which I 'l be using for Videos and Photography.. I need your advice.

It depends on what you'll be doing most. For Nikon D5300 Vs Canon EOS 70D, If you'll be doing more photography and stills you should go for the Nikon but if you're interested in doing more videos and really want to get into it for less and do not really care about Pictures and their quality, then Canon. Canon EOS 70D has weather sealing, a flip out screen which you definitely need for video, a touch screen for sweet focus when taking video.

Well, I 'll be doing the two:
Videography (Documentary/Event): 60%
Photography (Nature/Street): 40%

Canon EOS 70D has weather sealing, a flip out screen which you definitely need for video, a touch screen for sweet focus when taking video.
D5300 has flip-out screen too.

I 'll prolly get a mirror-less Cam for Video after this.. but for now, I want to invest in a Cam that 'ld serve me for the two.

I just don't know how effective D5300 auto-focus is.. most especially in low-light and when shooting moving objects.
