lezz: Listen I am Igbo, i've had no problems with yorubas until i came here, the only people i'm always wary of were the Islamis hausa-fulanis of the north whose penchant for bloodletting is unequaled in sub-saharan Africa. The internet opened my eyes when i heard yorubas screaming about "Igbos never going to be President", calling them slaves of nigeria and i was one of those who popularized the "Illorin caliphate" taunting to remind them who the slaves really are. Many nigerians of the Southwestern origin destroyed this country by taunting the Igbos with "presidency and civil war", Some of us as Igbos were anti-Biafrans just few years ago, we even defended Nigeria against ghanians and south africans on the forum but will we ever? never!.Incendiary comments and taunts from the hateful yorubas who i even thought were our only friends in Nigeria have turned millions of Eastern youths more Pro-Biafran than even Uwazurike and Nnamdi Kanu. When non-violent Massob members are killed guess who taunts the Igbos? yorubas, not even the muslim hausas we openly dislike. When Christian Igbos were killed in the islamic north due to Danish cartoon riots... guess who jumped up for joy? yorubas( christians and muslims alike). Their taunting here reduced when we proved to them they were also getting killed in the north. the 2011 Sai buhari/NYSC killings had more yoruba names than any other tribe down south. When fulanis destroy crops and rape women in the east, guess who feels elated? yorubas. I could go on and on. Let yorubas have their own country, their Chi have already broken their palm kernels for them , lagos have been developed with eastern resources, from palm produce to crude oil. Seaports, airports have been built for their use in their Oodua country. Biafra has to build from scratch. So they should be happy, they stand to gain more from a split unworkable nigeria. A Biafra adage Says "let the eagle perch, leg the dove perch too". Biafra and Oodua can live and progress separately and teach the rest of Africa how real nations are built. Let us separate and survive, than collide in "unity" for destruction. 4 Likes 4 Shares |

ArodewilliamsT:Spoken with honesty and a sense of purpose. I won't lie to you, I have been tempted to participate in tribal trolling on nairaland so often when I read some very wicked and senseless comments here. But I have come to the conclusion that the Internet comes with a great dose of disinhibition where the weight of comments are not seen in its true light. It creates the aura where people sit behind their computers and mobile phone and spew words yet impersonify their targets of tribes and people. That's what social-media brings. I troll on South Africans and ghanaians online for defence and pride of Nigeria far more than I can ever go offline. Matter of fact, there's a ghanaian girl in my neighbourhood who works for my friend and i can never bring myself to tell her 1/10th of what i tell her compatriots here. I think we lose the human touch each time we target someone or tribe here. Other than some mischief makers who do trolling on Igbo/yoruba just for the hell of it, most of the others can't carry the tribal banner so high offline. I still think a true federalism could be great just like before the civil war. |

tonychristopher:lolz. I cannot wish the western igbos away. They are igbos alright but I was just being a little realistic. I observed that during the civil war, the federal troops found it extremely difficult to penetrate the south east, they however settled amongst the delta and rivers igbos which shared land boundaries with the rest of Nigeria. A lot of harm and evil was done there and then. The Asaba genocide/massacre easily comes to bear. This , I believed sparked the denial and controversy surrounding the western igbos |

lezz: Greatest naij quote ever by the greatest naij man ever, Awolowo (notice I didn't say "Nigeria the Ni.gger-area" cos I refuse to attach Ni.gger to that great man). Nigeria remains the only black Country with a fair chance of being a super power, but it will take a united and strong Nigeria to achieve this. What? You must be drunk to stupor when you put naij and super power in the same sentence. Naij can NEVER be a super-power, there are too many different alignments within the country for interests to converge, especially based on how divided the world is today. And naij is arguably the easiest country to fragmentise from outside influence and the only reason why these folks haven't bothered to touch naij is cos it's not a threat to anyone, and it's easier to exploit the way it's. So they'd rather leave it perpetually in abyss, than destroy their cash cow. Assignment for you This is a list of all the great super powers in the history of the world: Ancient Egypt, Greek, Roman Empire, Mongol Empire, British Empire, Soviet Union, United States, and China is on its way. Can you please tell me what all these great super-powers have in common with naij in terms of ethnic composition, based on population ratio? Thanks in advance. 3 Likes 1 Share |

lezz: @excerpt in bold. I'd wager that it's the same for all black folks regardless on nationality. The average person from naij, Jamaica, Brazil, Ghana, America, Congo shares a lot of things, hence we always bond very quick when we meet. However, cos of that, should all black people live in the same country? 1 Like |
Re: An Open Appeal To All Tribal Bigots On Nairaland by lezz(m): 5:35pm On Sep 17, 2015 |
Shymm3x:The answer to your question is NO in general. While that of Brazil, Congo, Jamaica etc was once at a point in history, the bonding and assimilation of the tribes in Nigeria is ongoing and getting more entwined every day. |
Re: An Open Appeal To All Tribal Bigots On Nairaland by tonychristopher: 5:43pm On Sep 17, 2015 |
No it was the Asaba and Delta Igbo that caused the civil war but the eastern Igbo stood by them and we realise that we cant let our brothers down, even our cousins the Ibibio was with us here in the war...the only sour point which is normal in every 12 and in every family there is always the black sheep... and do you know the black sheep? The IKWERRES but some are coming back to the fold via OHANEZE So dont be scared of IGBO unity...igbos are not marufders that invade territories, its the fulani that does that...the igbo man is busy looking for the next deal be it intellectually or economically we are too busy for petty invasion lezz: |

lezz: With bonding - it's either there or not. And when there's a dark history and distrust entrenched in the history of place, it will always difficult to bond. Unless you want to force it and create a bigger problem. For example: in America whites and blacks have been trying to bond and assimilate into each other's cultures for a long time now, with some many laws and policies (something naij hasn't even tried) - yet the country is still as divided and segregated as it was during the Jim Crow era. With naij, even if you were to make all Yoruba men marry Igbo women and vice versa, and do it for all the groups in the country - it's still going to be the same. However, this time, you would create a new set of problems. The problem of naij is the structure and how the population of the three biggest ethnic groups - who more or less have nothing in common - are almost the same. Once you have three masters trying to drive one ship, with different interests, it will always be problematic. If naij had been created into three different ethnic groups, based on the three regions it had at independence - all the three countries would be thriving right now. However, the more they force integration on the people - the bigger the problems they create, hence the country keeps getting worse by day and that has been the pattern since independence. 1 Like 1 Share |

Shymm3x:Awolowo did his best for Nigeria and a lot of folks will agree with your assessment of him. However on the premise of Nigeria being a super power, I don't think I alluded super power status to Nigeria just yet. I believe and stated thus that she has the potentials to be one. In fact She is the only african country that has that potential. READ THE ISS REPORT. ON YOUR ASSIGNMENT The old Roman empire and Ottoman empire had in their own time different characteristics of the time that could forge a super power and I believe the game has changed as of today. The United state as the mega super power today is one of the most diversed nation of the world- even more diversed than Nigeria. It took China over 500 years to harness and discover her potential and she's on the rise to becoming a super power. The world of today is driven by economy and commerce which is speared by population as well . So we have countries acquiring powerful status globally based on their economy. And that's where Nigeria comes in. With globalisation and capitalism, Our population like China will/is attracting FDI which is rising steadily. I see technology transfer in the future with a merger of our own industries. Our soft power in culture, music, movies is creating a scene of soft influence around Africa and beyond. We know Nollywood still needs work but so did bollywood start. It is no coincidence that larger countries are taking the top 10 economic slots, although their HDI still needs improvement. You're right about Nigeria being easy to infiltrate from outside, but so also is America with her multi racial and multi ethnic population. I believe our diversity is our greatest asset and point of vulnerability too. But then no country is perfect. If we could restructure our political foundation half of the tribal scuffling will be resolved. Now let me ask you this : with all that Nigeria has endured thus far, the boko haram menace; burning of churches and carnage, the June 12 debacle, and much more, why hadn't there been a serious effort to split up? I think the call for true federalism is much more feasible than a split up. 1 Like 1 Share |

Shymm3x:Valid points and facts. I propose a true federal structure as it were before 1966. The British union still have their distrust between the English and Scots and Northern Ireland . I believe secession would have worked after independence like India and Pakistan. But right after the civil war failed and the creation of states was implemented (the tactics worked) , secession has become an option difficult to implement. |

Re: An Open Appeal To All Tribal Bigots On Nairaland by Shymm3x: 8:03pm On Sep 17, 2015 |
lezz: 1). ISS report has nothing to do with nation building...it's basically just a report based on resources (both mineral/natural and human). And being a super-power requires more than. The primary prerequisite for being a super-power is structure/bonding based on the same interests and that's one thing naij lacks. When the Roman empire took on the world and conquered it - it did so based on bonding and common interest. Ditto the British empire. And these were small empires with a small population. You don't necessarily need huge human and natural/mineral resources to achieve that status - Japan is a classic example based on how it ruled the extremely huge China and the whole of Korea, at a point in history. 2). The world only change on the outside - the aesthetics - as it was then, so it's today. Everything in the world always go full circle and it's a continuous process, hence history is important and why everything ought to be done based on historical context. The nucleus of the Roman empire (based on how it was built/structured/modeled) was fully entrenched in the British empire - and that was passed to the United States. The empire never died - it just put on a different jacket The United states is diverse on the surface - but once you look beyond that and do the proper classification, you'd find out that the country is overwhelmingly white (over 75% of the population). What does that tell you? Once you compare it to naij - you'd discover that both have nothing in common based on ethnic classifications, since Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa/Fulani have roughly the same population. Then you have another layer of minorities with also the same population differential. Then the tiny ones. If either Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa/Fulani had been about 75% of the population of naij - the country would be thriving right now. However, that isn't the case - hence the quagmire. China had its time in the past and like all empires, it got tired and went to sleep. However, the only reason China is awake today and it's on its way to claim its well-deserved status is cos over 90% of the country is Han Chinese and Chairman Mao was able to coalesce everyone to buy into the best ideology they could all rally around, based on the Han Chinese identity. 3). Investors will always be attracted to a place with huge population and a lot of money in circulation, regardless how flawed it's. However, that doesn't mean the country has any potential whatsoever to be great when it comes to nationhood. You need to understand that business/investment is profit-driven and it's all about money/purchase-power/size. When something is profit-driven, the only winners are those involved in profiteering, not the populace. 4). For naij to be restructured to be a confederation like the UK won't be a walk in the park cos I doubt the Northerners would agree, since they're in an advantageous position based on how it's structured. Evidently, it will require the same energy to get that type of structure - to break the country up. So if it's going to take the same energy, why not go for that latter? Personally, I won't mind a confederation, with new names for the new federations and an opt-out clause. However, I feel a Yoruba country is the dream. I just want to see a thriving country - and I doubt naij will ever be able to offer that. Yes, a Yoruba country would also have a little bit of internal disagreements - but the hate won't be as pronounced as naij's since the ethnic groups in naij are all different people. The disagreements would be similar to how other Southerners in England diss those from the London...and the whole South England disses those from the Midlands and Northern England - and vice versa. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

tonychristopher:It rings true and the the bloodlines of Igbos across the South South has never been in dispute except in some political disposition where the geographical location is brought to bear. But I love the spread , the stretch of Ndigbo accross the Southeast and the stretch of the Yorubas across the Southwest. It gives each of these tribes a far reaching tentacles while adding to the complexity of Nigeria in a beautiful interwoven lock. |
