1). ISS report has nothing to do with nation building...it's basically just a report based on resources (both mineral/natural and human). And being a super-power requires more than. The primary prerequisite for being a super-power is structure/bonding based on the same interests and that's one thing naij lacks. When the Roman empire took on the world and conquered it - it did so based on bonding and common interest. Ditto the British empire. And these were small empires with a small population. You don't necessarily need huge human and natural/mineral resources to achieve that status - Japan is a classic example based on how it ruled the extremely huge China and the whole of Korea, at a point in history.

2). The world only change on the outside - the aesthetics - as it was then, so it's today. Everything in the world always go full circle and it's a continuous process, hence history is important and why everything ought to be done based on historical context. The nucleus of the Roman empire (based on how it was built/structured/modeled) was fully entrenched in the British empire - and that was passed to the United States. The empire never died - it just put on a different jacket

The United states is diverse on the surface - but once you look beyond that and do the proper classification, you'd find out that the country is overwhelmingly white (over 75% of the population). What does that tell you? Once you compare it to naij - you'd discover that both have nothing in common based on ethnic classifications, since Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa/Fulani have roughly the same population. Then you have another layer of minorities with also the same population differential. Then the tiny ones. If either Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa/Fulani had been about 75% of the population of naij - the country would be thriving right now. However, that isn't the case - hence the quagmire.

China had its time in the past and like all empires, it got tired and went to sleep. However, the only reason China is awake today and it's on its way to claim its well-deserved status is cos over 90% of the country is Han Chinese and Chairman Mao was able to coalesce everyone to buy into the best ideology they could all rally around, based on the Han Chinese identity.

3). Investors will always be attracted to a place with huge population and a lot of money in circulation, regardless how flawed it's. However, that doesn't mean the country has any potential whatsoever to be great when it comes to nationhood. You need to understand that business/investment is profit-driven and it's all about money/purchase-power/size. When something is profit-driven, the only winners are those involved in profiteering, not the populace.

4). For naij to be restructured to be a confederation like the UK won't be a walk in the park cos I doubt the Northerners would agree, since they're in an advantageous position based on how it's structured. Evidently, it will require the same energy to get that type of structure - to break the country up. So if it's going to take the same energy, why not go for that latter? Personally, I won't mind a confederation, with new names for the new federations and an opt-out clause. However, I feel a Yoruba country is the dream. I just want to see a thriving country - and I doubt naij will ever be able to offer that.

Yes, a Yoruba country would also have a little bit of internal disagreements - but the hate won't be as pronounced as naij's since the ethnic groups in naij are all different people. The disagreements would be similar to how other Southerners in England diss those from the London...and the whole South England disses those from the Midlands and Northern England - and vice versa.
Well thought out, Smartie. grin

But I will like to make a little inference to the United state. She may be over 75% white but the whites are of various nationalities, from the British who where the first settlers (and they did have their own internal rift with the irish) to the Germans, Dutch, Italians and jews etc.

Although the Anglo saxons' norms and views became the overwhelming American culture and foreign relation, those nationalities are still away of their identities and root.

I will be the last to deny the Nigerian triangle (Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa ) isn't a pain in the neck and the yearn for secession is ever so tempting. But I think it is burdened on the political construction of the system rather than just an ethnic fear of dominance.

What do the Igbos want in Nigeria? Why do they feel marginalised? I will answer than they have been denied a shot at the presidency for so long. What if we had a true federalism that makes Abuja just the diplomatic face of Nigeria and leave the region's to develop in their own pace and time?

The Niger delta feels used and exploited and it is a fact. Why can't they control their resources and pay due levies and task to the federation?

The Yorubas want their own brand of civilization and political ideology with its own set of values, true federalism will give them much of that.

The north fears dominance in education and other human development by everyone from the South. Yet she has an abundance of resources that can sustain her in the reconstruction of the country.

My fear for Nigeria in a breakup is that it will tear deep in the moral and psychological cloak of Africa.

If we're to split up, I don't think it will be in 3 ways, it's going to be more with the foreign powers negotiating and coming for the spoils. Some regions are going to see internal civil wars, others might come up worse and others might pledge their allegiance to other foreign bodies to survive.

The coast of the Niger delta is just too much of a temptation for the world powers to ignore.

If you're to have a Yoruba state as it is, how do you seek to include your kinsmen in Kogi and kwara states?

Now you are getting the drift ...this is what many people do not know about the Igbo ...Igbo will always recognise his brother in a foreign land ..let me tell you once i drive home and I pass Benin and once i get to abudu then I feel at home from there even if my car breaks down I am not worried because those are Igbo speaking areas

People don't know we have Igbo speaking areas in edo , cross river , akwa ibom ,Benue and some parts of kogi

But you know ignorance is bliss
When I read Achebe's book "There was a country" I noticed how he felt at home after crossing Benin and how he was welcomed by the delta Igbo police.

The Igbankes in Edo state are igbos full time. And the daftness of a military regime place them in Edo state in so minute in numbers that they're denied basic rights.

Over half the population in river state is igbo. Plus a sizable number scattered amongst neighbouring states.

In a true federalism the Igbos could opt for a merger of states and regions having access to the oik and sea in the rivet section of SS and on shore oil in delta north in Anioma.

nice postulation and what another thing that people keep saying is that Igbo is landlocked and I wonder how they get that idea ..yes do you know that Bonny island and opobo speak Igbo also

Do you know that Igbo land still have orashi, river Niger and IMO river that empties into the Atlantic and these waters are highly navigable

This issue of oil is another thing ... Igbo are not oil thirsty to be honest

IMO anambra and abia have oil well...anambra is presently sitting on huge gas deposits... You know what bonny is known for what about Igbo speaking part of rivers and delta that has oill

You know that they feel that Igbo land end in east...I laugh

But we allow them to just live in that illusion

Nice post but it is alarmist ..Russia broke up and non took arms ...let's take Igbo for example ..with over 35 million which is the population if Luxembourg 7 times and Denmark 6 times ...these European countries have the best GDP

I feel that people are scared of Igbo leaving but I just don't understand why they are this worried yet they still hate Igbo

I have been asking this but no answer ...can you help me out

One can still be a Nigerian and yet hold onto his tradition and ethnicity. It's a balanced approach that has worked in other countries that are more diversed than Nigeria .

You cannot fault Kofi on his statement if you take it into full perspective. Before and during the last presidential elections, Africa stood literally still in anticipation of the aftermath. The world held its breath as the promise of violence and unrest seem certain no matter the outcome.

And Kofi came to Nigeria and in a keynote address to Nigerian leaders, he made a comment that is often absent in the consciousness of Nigerians and our leaders: "We are more important and carry more influence than we care to admit or even see" Some of our leaders do know this but perhaps they shy from such enormous responsibility.

Kofi 's statement wasn't a "feel-good" cometary, it was to draw to our attention the effect our decisions have in all of Africa.

The bolded simply and intellectually destroyed any credibility you seemed to proffer in this discussion. What you have in the bolded are the prevailing circumstances that existed in Nigeria. The source of unity in any given nation points to culture and tradition of the people. Nigeria is a flawed configuration that needs reconfiguration.

u can imagine that! this is why i don't like to be identified as igbo even though we live close enough and understand their language and culture. coz when it comes down to the sharing benefits, igbo people would deny asaba people and call them deltans. they're so unpredictable

What did Igbo of south east deny asaba pls tell us and lezz

Both are in different political zone ..so how
Ngozi okonji was igbuzor married to abia man ...but abia presented her as candidate

I think the problem with most delta Igbo is that they are easily cowed by those minority around them forgetting they have bigger brother

If it were not ohaneze that made Jonathan understand that delta north must be governor ..Ifeanyi okowa won't be there

Because urhobo will say they are not core deltans

So Igbo must be loved by Igbo in delta cos we have ur back

1) You might want to put a lid on the emotional outlet

2 ) your in - laws' choice isn't the yardstick of measuring the feelings of the entire people. Please I beg of you, do not be emotionally hypocritical with a dose of sentimentalism.

Eastern igbos are still berating the presidency for lack of "igbo" appointment even when some Delta igbo sons are there.

When Anioma state was on the verge of creation with the proposal that Onitsha be its capital, Eastern igbos kicked against it. That would have permanently sealed your western brothers to their kins in the east.

When Pat Utomi ran for president in 2007, Eastern igbos cried out he isn't a real igbo.

Well I don't hear much "fake" yoruba about their kwara and Kogi brothers.

There are a good number of Delta igbos who would easily jump ship to the other side and others who won't.

The Asaba massacre and eastern betrayal is still a sour point.

And what the hell is Delta Igbo or fake igbo when their dialect is even more igbo than most places in ebony state and some part of enugu.

Biafra is a legitimate call for igbo active participation in the sociopolitical scheme of things in Nigeria. Secession is a long, long dream.

Above is mere conjectural crap strung together to stir up sentiments. You can be an Ngwa or Obowo or Wawa or Aro or Mbaise or Uratta person and the person failed to join certain cultural association or organization of his or her people, when such person seeks federal elective post he or she will hear a word or two from his or her people. The fake Igbo you claimed to have heard is propagated by deceitful individuals such as you and those miscreants who are bent on creating division among Ndiigbo. From the above crap, you have not stated one iota where Yari,ba, Hausa, Fulani, Kanuari, Nupe, Tiv, Birom, Ijo, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Edo or Efik are referred as "fake ". People in your intellectual weight class seemed to be twisted out odf human form because Ndiigbo have shown a strong determination to breakaway from the flawed cesspit called Nigeria. Those of you who want to die Nigerian should not engage in all hold bared endeavor to stop Ndiigbo from an independent home land.

Don't get carried away. If you're for Biafra republic, who am i to stand in your way. There's nothing wrong in dreams and aspirations grin . I'm only for one Nigeria. The question is how feasible is Biafra? What machinery has been put in place to achieve it?

For the past couple of decades after the sociocultural effects of the civil war, igbos have done little in integration of her brothers and people outside the core igbo homeland. I'm sorry to be personal, but you're either delusional or too weak to take the cold hard truth.

There are many, many igbos in the east who won't blink an eye to acknowledge the Igbo-ness of Anioma and there are still many who still see the Anioma as people who just happen to speak a form of corrupted igbo .

Hopefully this gap is being bridged recently and progress is being made. But if you don't agree that there's still room for integration especially with the Rivers igbos and a few in Anioma, then I will question your honesty and forthrightness.

What machinery do you want to be put in place my new found friend ...can you tell us ...the greatest machinery is human capital and you know that Igbo are not lacking in that ...with all the machinery in motion for Nigeria ..where do Nigeria stand today in committee of nations....a disgrace ..if you have been able to travel out of this country to EU you will understand that Kenyans are more regarded than your phantom giant

Luxembourg is just less than 10 million and they have the highest GDP in Europe and we have upto 40 million Igbo both at home and in diaspora

So what machinery again...and how do you feel when you see remarks of hare against Igbo yet against all odds igbos Jeep powering on...go to Igbo villages and compare it with other villages

Enugu fired anambra workers did anambra peeps go crying around

the owner can fire anybody he likes......I agree. but in this case, the procedure was to get rid of all NON IGBOS first and an asaba person got included.
I don't know if u've met an asaba person before. we speak pure anambra unlike all other igbo-speaking communities in delta. our igbos are even clearer than that of enugu and abia. we bear their names too and so can easily disguise as igbos. yet the so-called igbo people would always want to distinguish.

Luxembourg isn't the highest GDP in Europe. It is Germany. If you mean GDP par capita , maybe. With a 10 million population she will/does fall under the dictates of Europe's giants Germany, France and the UK.

@ bolded, China is an OFFICIAL ROGUE STATE, both her population and economy makes the EU and America to treat her with respect. Also if not for the money and power of America she would have been the laughing stock of the West.

I travelled to Enugu since yesterday for an official assignment hence my delay in response but I would like to point you to a recent BBC poll on Nigeria conducted around several african countries. The opinion will shock you.

Nigeria's image is a mixed bag , from corrupt government official and some "yahoo" citizens to a nation who have practically stabilised the west african subregion in human and material resources. Who have made so much sacrifice for the african continent.

The first african country who has put Africa on the maps with a .5 trillion dollar GDP and has one of the fastest growing economy in the world. It is a mixed opinion, bro.

I can't go on now, I'm on my way back home and will talk more when I drop.

Luxembourg isn't the highest GDP in Europe. It is Germany. If you mean GDP par capita , maybe. With a 10 million population she will/does fall under the dictates of Europe's giants Germany, France and the UK.

Wrong!!! Identifying with your tradition in a heterogeneous society like Nigeria is the beauty of federalism. Nigerians DON'T identity with their ethnicity and tradition healthily, in a progressive blend with Nigeria as a collective- inclusive- umbrella .
They see themselves in most instances as mini nations inside another country. No matter how minute their tribes may be. South Africa, the U.S, UK and Canada has shown that you can add colour and variety in a heterogeneous country by holding to your roots yet having a large umbrella or banner by which everyone is identified and shielded.

There is no complexity any where in Biafra, complexities only exist in Nigeria.

Edo is not SS, it was put there for administrative convenience, the state geographically, religiously and Culturally is more of SW than SS.

There are no Muslims in SS, it's only in Arewa-Oduanistan which Edo is part of that Muslims co exist with Christians, they are meant for each other.

Those in Rivers are not part of your concern, we still have people from those parts of Igboland that do attend Ohanaeze meetings, bonds of brotherhood are not that easy to break, we will mend the rift and make our unity stronger, the way Biafra will be structured will ensure that.

As for Akwa-ibom, I am sorry for you if you think they will side Nigeria over Biafra, after Nigeria used their land Bakassi as a gift to Cameroun just to win the war and claim Eastern region oil wealth, they have seen Nigeria for what it is. Moreover there has always been a strong bond between Ndiigbo and people from that axis of Eastern region, when the time comes, we will put to test via referendum, I don't see them choosing an Islamic republic of Arewa-Oduanistan over a Christian Biafra.

The Ijaw communities are not in Ondo, they were carved into Ondo and can easily be carved out.

As for Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi, I don't see any problem there. Yorubaland, Edolands and Arewa are united by Islam, and together they will all form a United Islamic republic of Arewa-Oduanistan. It's a strong basis for nationhood, ie shared and common religious belief.

Wat do u know about the ilaje? Are dey Yorubas or mixed? Pls, i will check on ur response. As for the Ijaw communities in Ondo, as u said they can be carved back out.

They are Yorubas. Though they claim not to be descendants of Oduduwa, alongside Ijebu, but there is no mistaking the fact that their first language is Yoruba.

NB: I have not been to Ilaje before, so don't have firsthand Info on the people, all my knowledge about them are from second sources I met in Ondo, outside Ilaje land, one of those sources is an Indigene of Ilaje.

With regards to wat u wrote earlier, it appears Apoi ijaw now answer Yoruba name and apeak yoruba.

Arogbo Ijaw in Ese Odo local government are the only ones that still speak Ijaw.

However, recently, they ran military operation on them, many killed.

The two local government in Ondo with Ijaw are Ese Odo(Arogbo Ijaw) and Okitipipa(Apoi)

The other place is Ovia NorthEast Edo gelegele.

The regions are called Geopolitical Regions and not geocultural, geographical or georeligious regions. All regions were created for administrative purposes hence even your own SE if not monocultural as there are Igalas indigenous to Anambra State just as there are Ibibios and Ijaws native to Abia State, neither is it monoreligious as there are indegenous moslems in the Afikpo areas of Ebonyi State. There are indegenous Itsekiris, Ijaws and Urhobos in Edo State, so it would mean that Delta State which equally is home to these tribes is also culturally a SW state by your preposterous parameters.
The Itsekiris of Delta State are manifestly Yorubas as they don't deny their Yorubaness. In fact the appelation for their monarch is a pure Yoruba term. They trace their roots to Ijebu in Ogun State and speak a Yoruba Dialect. However in your jaundiced analysis Delta State is not culturally SW but Edo State where none of the indegeous tribes speaks Yoruba as mother tongue is culturally SW. Isn't it obvious that you are seriously confused? There is no extent of duplicity and dishonesty the typical Igbo person cannot go in his attempt to distort facts for political correctness.
The SS is made up of very many tribes which have no cultural similarities nor linguistic affinity. The Itsekiris of Delta have no cultural ties with the Ogojas of Cross River State, neither do the Ijaws of Bayelsa have any cultural affinity with the Ibibios of Akwa Ibom, etc. So how did you come about ascribing to the region a single culture which Edo doesn't share in your confused mind?
In fact there is a town in Edo North which shares linguistic affinity and cultural ties with another in Yala LGA of Cross River State as recently revealed by ethnological reserch.
The SS identity is all about the non-Wazobians of the South hence has nothing to do with all these parameters you contrived out of resentment for Edos over their rejection of inclusion in Biafra.
Asari Dokubo is a moslem from Bayelsa just like a lot of other indegenous moslems in Bayelsa, Delta and Cross River, hence your attempt to paint an all-Christian picture for the SS betrays an intention to spin a narrative for political correctness. Ironically Asari Dokubo a devout moslem is a potential high ranking stakeholder in your supposedly all-Christian Biafra not minding the very large population of indegenous moslim population in Ebonyi which is a SE state.
You can keep deluding yourself and spinning obviously preposterous parameters about SS membership just to get back at Edo for rejecting Biafra and sticking to being themselves politically, but the earlier you wake up from your nightmare the better for your envy stricken soul.
Find below a link to IPOB's attempt to coerce Edo into Biafra hence the rejection which triggered in your likes the sour grape syndrome to which effect you began to try to detach Edo from the SS with your contrived but preposterous parameters.

It is disheartening to watch on social-media when Nigerians resort to tribal slurs and cruel jibes at one another at the slightest of chance. Ironically most of the jeering participants are often decent fellows offline who have in their close circles as friends people of other ethnic groups.

Nigeria is a mere geographical expression of the British experiment , so opined a leading political figure. Perhaps it was so during the 1914 amalgamation. A casual look at the sociopolitical and economic evolution of Nigeria ever since will lead any honest observer to draw a very contrasting conclusion.

For the Igbos do bound her neighbours in the south south in Abia and Imo and delta states and there has been a cultural and economical entwinement in this region. The Igbos also bound the north/Middlebelt in Enugu,Benue and Kogi states.

The yorubas share a little ancestral linkage in delta and Edo states in the south south and are in an eternal sociopolitical blending with the north in kwara and Kogi states.

All of Nigeria seems to meet in some critical geographical junction which suggests there's a bit of ALL OF US in ALL OF US. There is therefore no clear cut geographical or cultural demarcation for secession or breakup.

Summarily, Nairaland has morphed into Africa's biggest online meeting hub with a very sizable number of foreigners both from Africa and beyond. Disappointingly, this is where Nigeria's most ignorant tribal bigots have chosen to launch their scathing and diversionary tribal slurs..... in front of the watching world.

It should be clear that Nigeria is beyond breaking into tiny irrelevant geographical entities. The civil war failed; June 12 failed and has boko haram .

The destiny of Nigeria -- the very premise by which it became is bigger than any single tribe.

While we berate each other and call one another names, the rest of Africa watches with patience, waiting for us to solve our own riddle and lead the entire black race to its true dignity.

The former United Nation's Secretary General, Kofi Annan in Abuja ,January in front of a world press made a daring declaration : " The destiny of Africa is in the hands of Nigeria".

It is a sad commentary that foreigners have more faith and hope in Nigeria than Nigerians. When little minded, shortsighted tribal bigots ,with no sense beyond the relevance of their tribe, dance in a show of tribal shame, the effects resonate around Africa and the black diaspora. For every tribal cruelty spawned online on the ocean of our national existence, the waves of its

aftereffects is felt in the depths of Africa.

The world is aware of our shortcomings in corruption, government inefficiency but their faith is bigger than our dismays. Because there has been progress -not because of the bigots but in spite of them.

Nigeria remains the only black Country with a fair chance of being a super power, but it will take a united and strong Nigeria to achieve this.

The sooner we shed the last vestige of secession, the faster we shall begin to practice true coexistence with the option of disintegration so far off in the distance of genuine brotherhood.

Nothing will change bro until the irresponsible management and moderators declare zero tolerance for ethnic baiting and immediately ban the perpetrators and delete all of their post.
