Hey everyone: I'll be traveling this weekend (one last hurrah!), so don't be alarmed if I don't answer any questions until Monday.

Also, I depart for my next assignment on Saturday, September 26, 2015 -- so that will also be the last day I can answer questions here. sad

VisaOfficer:

1. Unfortunately the cut-off date for this visa category underwent a retrogression -- which means that NVC scheduled interviews for several cases that were current, and by the time the applicants came to the Consulate for their interviews, the cut-off date had changed and the cases were no longer current. (We have no way of knowing in advance that someone whose case is no longer current is scheduled for an interview; the computer system doesn't notify us.) When this happens, frankly, our hope is that the cut-off date will correct itself the next month so that we can go ahead and process the visas; this has often happened in the past. So we go ahead and see the applicants rather than canceling their interviews. For your visa category, however, it appears that the retrogression was the correction, so many cases that were briefly current are now no longer current.

2. The validity of the visa is tied to the validity of your medical paperwork, so yes, you would very likely be asked to submit updated medical paperwork.

3. We only accept medical paperwork from our panel physicians, and to the best of my knowledge neither of Nigeria's panel physicians works at St. Lukes Medical Center.

Hi VO,

As a requirement for medical appointment in St Lukes is the Interview letter from the NVC. Is NVC will be sending another email for our new interview date? When i called the NVC center they told me that all my application is already with the consulate office in manila. To whom shall i follow up my interview letter in ever our case becomes current?

thanks.

My fiance went to his interview last month. The embassy took all his documents except his passport. They gave him a letter saying he was medical pending. The doctor said he sent his physical to the embassy before the interview. We have received no more from the embassy since. Should I be worried ? What does medical pening mean ?

VisaOfficer:

They usually don't ask for new medicals unless they think they're ready to issue a visa. But they will probably ask him some additional questions when he comes in -- I have no way of knowing for sure. If they had wanted to see additional documents, they would have asked for them. Good luck!
. Thanks V O my husband Visa APproved! Ure blessed he didn't ask any Question just Give him all paper to picked up 5 working days! Really apc8

Hello VO I hope you are fine. My Question is my case is been in NVC for 54 days as of today and i am still waiting for a Case complete.
So what should i expect from NVC a CC or a check list?

Yesterday i talked to a rep and she said I should hope for a CC instead of Checklist and that i will get a CC soon so I was wondering how long will this soon gona last?

My wife's own took three months. She got her visa two days ago. Though the NVC thing is that you have to follow the instructions carefully for the required documents if you submit the wrong one it's takes another one month to get back to you to resend the the right one.

Entered wrong " Spouse Place of birth" in I-130 and DS260. NVC interview has been scheduled. How to correct now?

I have written the District name instead of the City. Is this very serious mistake? How to correct it now as the Embassy interview has already been scheduled for first week of October 2015.

There are 13 cities in my district.

Thank you again for your selfless assistance on this thread. I cannot explain how much your advice and direction has calmed me in some of the most stressful and heartbreaking times. May God bless you and keep you safe. I hope you come check on us once in a while!

Oh, you're in Manila! It's best to contact the IV Unit there directly and ask them these questions. I can answer questions about general immigration policy, but I'm not familiar with the procedures and circumstances in Manila.

Oh good, a policy question! smiley I love these.

People often ask if they can apply for non-immigrant visas while they have an immigrant visa petition pending. The answer is yes, and often these people are in the U.S. when their immigrant visa petition's priority date becomes current. They can then apply for adjustment of status in the United States, rather than returning to their home country for the immigrant visa interview. Under the new policy, many such persons will have the option to apply to adjust status even before their immigrant petition is current. This policy is very new and I don't know exactly how it will be implemented, but it should cut down on wait times considerably for people who are already legally in the U.S.

It applies only to people who are already in the U.S. You can't apply to adjust status to Legal Permanent Residence if you're outside the United States.
