Racism and tribalism are the same. Africans are the most racist of all people. Hausa,Igbo and Yoruba people practice it daily.

I know alot of people reads through Nairaland, both positive and negative minded people,Nigerians problem is associated to our predicaments back at home, all the vices coupled with Boko haram or islamic terrorism.Europe should take care because the recent influx of arabs, syrians, Iranians, pakistanis, afghans etc is a calculated means of the ISIS to enter into EU and cause mayhem but EU don't know where their problem lies.To fellow Nigerians & africans badly treated take succour because there is nothing you can do about it,if you sue or charge the case to court, you will not win it.I experience few of this acts but not without challenge at the end there is no word of remorse from whatever quarters, some of our guys has made this people wary of us as coko ingestors but once they try to stigmatise i make drama of it,demand them i am hungry,i did not eat before i travel. This will make them to bring in food while i leave them do their work,i will demand juice,i know the names of the expensive ones & they will bring it at the end they will find nothing and say won't you pay for what you consumed, then i will just reply that i suppose to be at home by the time you people delayed me.Sorry to whoever that have passed throughn this hell but once you are clean do not bother of their action let them do their job and you will be freed to go.It is a pity that arabs are fast becoming friend in disguise to the western world while africans are enemy,i laughed in swahili because it is better for 100 blacks/Africans to live in the EU community than for two arabs,we know what the end result will be.I just pity this people who thinks Nigerians are their problems.

Blacks especially black Africans suffer from inferiority complex in their interactions with whites. Couple of years ago I flew into Lagos from Atlanta on Delta airlines and they misplaced my luggage, so I went to the airport the next day. The oyinbo delta agent at the airport was just ignoring all our questions about our luggage and ordering the Nigerian staffs around like dogs, I was so pissed I started yelling on the dude to produce my luggage or else. And my fellow passengers and the Naija staffs were looking at me like, this guy is brave o talking to oyinbo like that. cheesy

ROFL such a disgrace. Fulani people are not like that though, we don't have inferiority complex to whites smiley

Their impression about you is not helped by videos of Africans washing up offshore in Europe. Arabs are not any better than Africans in terms of terror but are treated better. That is the price we all pay for self-hatred and self-denigration. We are busy tearing one another down along ethnic lines while in the global arena, Oyibo doesn't know the difference and couldn't care less. For all they care, we are all blacks and scum of the earth. Some of them might have been to Nigeria and saw how you are treated less than dogs in your country. And you expect respect? How?

You better get used to it as you venture outside Nigeria. Your description may end up being "that African".

Nigga pls shut the fvck up, nicest people on earth my a.ss. Go and ask the black Americans or black South Africans or the Zimbabweans if they are the nicest people on earth. Most of you Nigerians do not have a history with white racism that's why you are spewing that nonsense, go to Russia and spend two weeks and come back and tell me about nice white people.

Don't mind him he's a f00l if he honestly believes white people are the nicest people on Earth. He is suffering from a mass inferiority complex. Many Nigerians do not share in his belief, believe me on that one. I for one do not. Nice people don't stab their friends in the back or fabricate stories about them for their own personal gain. Nice people are not conniving.

Italy is another example. See the way they egged and threw bad things at the Congolese lady. Or look at Football matches all over Europe and how they treat black football players. It really is a Western problem, but the country that covers up the racism the most with false propaganda is the United States.

They really try to make it seem as if they are better than anyone else. Everyone knows that if you are better than others, do you have to boast about it? Typically people who boast about being better than others are trying to cover something up.

Racism and tribalism is not the same, don't join it together. Racism is a thing that africans don't practise while tribalism doesn't exist among the Europeans.Racism is western world disease while tribalism is an african disease. Within Nigeria an hausa man will like a malian than an Ibo,while in Mali a Bambara will like a Nigerian than a touareg.Europeans like Europeans but when it comes to people of colour they have problem. The two are not same.Watch an African react whenever he/she sees a caucaussian and watch how a caucaussian reacts when he/she sees an African.

It's a Western problem. One fellow Nigerian from Kwara once told me that the reason why Westerners are like that is because the culture they came from in the past is a cold one. Europe and the West is very cold in general. While Africa a lot of it is in tropical land where food is in abundance (not all of Africa is tropical I know I'm Sahelian for one) but what I'm saying is that while Africans are very kind and sharing at times, due to having a cold culture in which survival of the fittest prevaled in Europe hundreds of years ago, European culture kind of developed into one where it's "all about me" that "I must be selfish and have my own back".

It's a different mentality and culture in the West. It's a far different culture that many Africans are not aware of until they actually live in it for themselves. Some Africans however, remain in denial and continue to deceive themselves because they don't want to admit the truth.

I'm forced to respond to this though i hardly ever do on this forum.

Of course racism is true and I think we've all had our own Fare share of it. But my biggest problem is not with racism (from white folks) but with the fact that we hate ourselves as Nigerians/African and blacks even more than the whites hate us.

Haven lived and worked in quite a number of countries I keep asking myself if I would have had half the opportunity I have today if I was in Nigeria. Not because I am not competent but simply because I am black.

I have had white men as my drivers but in my own country we all know it is impossible. Once a fool with curly hair shows up, even a stupid black Indian that shakes his neck like chicken that is about to die will be so celebrated to the point that our police will even be made to escort him wherever he goes. He will literally be living the life a nigerian can only dream of. You will see this a lot in portharcourt.

I have learnt that people will only treat you how you treat yourself. Nobody will value what you don't value. Until we Nigerians, and Africans at large start valuing ourselves the world won't care about us.
There is no country in this world where a foreigner will be a preferred candidate for a job when a national of the country has better qualifications except in Nigeria and most African countries.

To cut the long story short...I hope someone will read this and learn to stop celebrating the hungry and frustrated foreigners in our own country at the expense of our people.

Another important point to note is this...take a quick look at most comments on NL on other issues ....its always torn between ethnic divides which shows that if left alone, we will even subdue our own brothers because we feel we are better/superior to other tribes.

What is racism..that feeling that you are superior to other races ( in my own words). I think we really do have a long way to go.

Thanks

Well whites like to try to feel superior. Not too long ago and to this very day in the west they try to make it seem as if blacks are not as intelligent as they are by saying that blacks have lower IQ levels (that's racism).

They try to make it seem as if black people use more drugs which is utterly false. Anyone with a natural knack or inquisitive nature can easily and readily research the necessary.

In reality, the most educated people in the U.K. and United States are Nigerians. But you don't hear about it publicly in countries like the United States unless you Google it: http://www.zdnet.com/article/nigerians-have-the-highest-level-of-education-in-the-us/

I understand how you feel, Mr writer. I have once had a similar experience in Germany and it was quite painful. Anyway aside from some bad eggs painting the green passport black from diaspora we here in Nigera practice the worst form of discrimination amongst ourself so we should nt cry much when other nationals theat us in like manner.

tribalism is the worst form of racism....

When a dude from east does not want anything good to come from the west, when the dude from the west wish evil to the dude from the east.. And we foolishly call ourselfs 'NIGERIANS'

Please don't go into the topic you have shallow knowledge of.The problem of Hitler and Racism is topic out of context. Please let it stop here.I will just give you a clue.Adolf Hitler is a power drunk,Hitler never have a plan, all he wanted is to rule the whole world, why he killed alot is because he wants to eliminate those he felt are his closest enemies,it is not because of racism or tribalism afterall alot still escape right before him,it is not possible to clearly seperate a jew from Germany/Poland/France/England etc from non jews of these countries. Hitler case dosn't fit this topic.

Utter crock.

Are White people facing such discrimination despite their horrible past and present? comparing Whites and blacks, whom out of the two groups has done more harm to the planet as a whole and people in it? comments like this send pique down my veins, pathetic.

@op
Just like claremont suggested, you should make a complain to the airline, thats the logically sensible thing you can do. Ignore those saying sue, so many caveats apply if you choose to go that route. In as much as you did not miss your flight, keep your cool and transpose it as an exposure to one of life's bitter lesson of brown people in the west. sorry for your experience.

Ig anything white people are worshipped for their past. We the world worship them by being christian and naming our kids euro style names...
Abandoning our customs to accept theirs.

I was traveling back to the states from Austria and i was due to connect my flight in Warsaw. To my greatest surprise i was singled out of over 150 passengers and my passport was scanned severally, not as if that was a Nigerian passport but just because i am black. Those skin heads hate blacks like mad.

racism is normal but it not normal when we share the same black skin

Black skin is the most beautiful color God did ever create, it does not loose shape, never withers nor sag even at old age, less alone wash away, so My Humble Polish Nigerian Traveler, Be strong and know that you where only made popular just that You should have applied some form of drama on the plane or at the time you where Questioned, that u are a Black walking time bomb that if they do not know how important they have made u to feel, You will set the Timer to detonate. ( no mind the white bleached man, they have forgotten that the white colored americans and arabs also set good Bomb standards in their acclaimed protected countries.)
I CELEBRATE YOU, YOUR BLACK COLOR IS BEAUTIFUL.

It was before my departure, I was patiently queuing about to board a flight from Katowice (Poland) to Eindhoven (Netherlands) at 07.15 am. While waiting, I was approached by a male employee who asked me about an unknown baggage found somewhere around the airport, I courteously replied that its not mine and I suggested that he should make a public announcement about it before passengers began to board the aircraft. When it was my turn to board, I approached the passenger service assistant and gave him my ID and mobile boarding pass but to my dismayal, he explicitly stated that I will not be allowed to board while asking me to wait at the corner for his boss to handle the situation. He wouldn’t listen to my subsequent plea as he rudely separated me from the curiously observing queuers, as I waited for the arrival of his supposed boss.

Three minutes later, the middle-aged boss arrived and as expected, collected my ID and interrogated me with the same question asked by the previous vicenarian employee, I repeatedly told him that I knew nothing about the baggage but he wouldn’t accept this as the truth. He further claimed that I was caught on camera dropping the bag and he would release the video to me if I keep denying, I was amazingly shocked at such magnitude of lie against me. I ask if I could see the video, wondering if I was mistaken for someone else, He agreed to show me but inferred that I wont be able to board the flight because after the nitty-gritty, the plane would be late on arrival, then its was dawm on me that this is getting serious. I replied angrily that if I miss my flight, I would sue the legal-person(s) involved. On hearing this, he immediately facilitated my boarding and directed me to the boarding gate. I asked again if I could see the video where I was caught dropping the baggage but he refused and reminded me that I am delaying the flight, in an attempt to diverge my pending questions. I was vehemently mortified. As I entered the plane from the front door, I noticed the fear and irritation gripping the passengers due to my chagrin. I approached to my assigned seat number, the passenger next to me wanted to be sure if I should be sitting close to her, as she was scared. I have never been publicly humiliated to this extent before. Throughout the whole trip, I was filled with so much anger, being victimized, guilt, and disregard. I wondered why I was handpicked and accorded such degrading treatment; I strongly believed it’s because of my phenotypically dark skin as I am the only ''non white'' on the flight, since no public announcement was made to inform if someone misplaced the baggage.

I have been a denizen in Poland and I have never experienced such degrading treatment throughout my time there. This treatment created a deep hole in my heart and brought to my awareness the reserved prejudice deeply rooted in the heart of the airport workers who ganged up and treated me so unfairly due to my dark skin. It is expected of public workers to be competent with customer’s relation skills, especially in airport serving passengers from all parts of the world. This experience has made me unnecessarily sensitive as I was made to tacitly understand I would have to prove my innocence if I’m unluckily present in any mix-up situation, that I will be assumed guilty by default with the burden of proving myself innocent resting on me, that this experience is but a mere trigger of an existing presupposition. The most painful part is that my feelings were completely ignored and at the very least of my expectation, no apologies issued to the aggrieved.

I am writing this letter without prejudice, and all I ask for is that the necessary authorities should equip its employees with customer relationship skills and method in reaching coherent conclusions without subjecting anyone to an inhumane treatment, and also as a deterrent from this happening to subsequent passengers.

A passenger i sat next to once was so uncomfortable just because I'm black and was wearing a female kaftan..i simply asked her what her problem was and that she was free to change seats for all I care. @ miss fightforchange1,hmn this is another topic entirely, the truth is that world over can't do without copying one side or the other of islam & christianity,it is not possible. In the western world majority are xtains while in most african countries islam is in majority but the percentage might different because the size(s) of the population involved.Today in Nigeria, there are names like fathia,al,el bin which are not european names. The culture of pulling down the trousers down the buttocks while you show off the underwear is rightly copied by most countries,i thought this originates from USA,people going dronic, digital etc is also a thing everybody copied. It is not limited only to names, what of the half naked dressings, boobs showcase and some are now going about braless,i think, you can see that it is not only about names but whatever comes from the west.
