Medicine, where do I start? I had always had interest in being a doctor as long as my memory can recall (even tho I wasnt really a fan of biology). I had been vewi gud at d physical sciences (physics and mathematics) bt no way was I goin to let d small matter of biology get in my way of being a doc.....

no course is hard or easy. Even tho biochem is fairly tough 4 some, its simpler dan breathin for odas. Wat matters is ur interest in d course nd d rest is ABC

Well fast forward to Sept. 19, 2014 when I saw THAT message sent by a fellow aspirant: "Admission list is out". My bones went cold, every breath of mine was like smoke from an exhausted locomotive train. If I hadnt mention, I graduated as a microbiologist from LASU after being denied to studdy medicine. "So this time, i'm nt goin to b denied again", I said to myself...."no way".

I went into my bathroom wit a fone in my trembling hand. Muttering various sentences as prayer to God, I summoned courage to open the link and wow, my happiest day ever has been witnessed...cue d shouting nd celebration... MEDICINE STARTS

Most med skuls offer 3 courses in d first preclinical year: Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
Anatomy
This is mainly the study of d body's structures (might sound easy bt its not wen u av to cram names lyk sternocleidemastoid muscle). Anatomy has 3 branches:
Gross anatomy: study of d structures u can see in d body literally wit d naked eye. U will see d structures practically by dissecting (cutting) cadavers (dead bodies); more on that later.
Histology: study of d structures at cellular level. U will see dis structures via microscopic slides.
Embryology: study of d developin human in d womb.

Physiology
This is d study of d functions of structures u've learntt in anatomy. Here u learn pretty interestin stuffs and most pple say its d bedrock of medicine.
Well, physiology is nt only broad bt diversely variable *whateva dat means* Anyways wat I mean is dere are various textbuks on physiology wit differing outputs nd values. Xo passin is based on:

1. Ur abiliity to identify d textbuks favoured by ur lecturers.

2. Ur ability to combine this textbuks positively without gettin confused (this happens a lot; trust me)

like he said it depends on your comittment.am a silent medic(new) had been a biochemist for two years now. I call it BIOCHEMISTORY ~ITS not hard if and only if you want it to be so.

Biochemistry
This is the study of what uve learned in physiology nd anatomy at d chemical level. For most BCH (as widely called) is d most feared of 3 courses. More on dat later

They say med skul is a place of endless reading. Is dat a myth? EMPHATIC NO. The information u are asked to absorb in med skul is too much sumtyms it can come across as ridiculous. I remember some months to resumption nd i wento get textbooks prescribed by senior med students, sincerely i got scared. One of the textbooks (ONE) was so big it was worth being studied for 6 years itself. This was keith more clinical oriented anatomy, a 1082 page book with 9 chapters. Wuld u blive dat in 8 months, u are expected to knw 7 of d chapters, nd dats just 1 out of 6 of wat u are expected to knw. That is unbelievable.

First challenge faced was THAT smelling room called the Gross Anatomy lab. Previous week during the welcome speech by the Anatomy HOD, Dr. A (no real names) he said we will b introduced d fflg week to d gross lab filled with cadavers. BELL RINGING : "OH no nt so soon... Dead people, how will i survive?" It wasnt funny... V neva even touched one b4, now m goin to learn how to cut one. Arrrrggggghhhh....xo scary

D day is here, me and other 59 med students in the cadaver lab staring at d mysterious bags on the slabs. "Hmmm" i said to my sef..."they even put them in bags, human beings lyk us". I must v cried a lil inside. The smell of d room was xtremely irritating at best. Then we were placed into 6 groups of 10 students. I was in group 5.
Then next was us being introduced to 'OUR BODY'... Cue laughter and tears at d same tym. My groups body was a man (can i still call im dat?) probably in his late 30s wit gunshot wounds. I wasnt scared, no, scare is nt d ryt word. I was terrified to d point i felt i culd run hilariously away from d lab. Well i didnt... Lol
We were not goin to do any cuttin today... Just get used to d bodies... "lesson learnt, can we pls go?"

Sorry I avent posted a while, been avin flurry of incourses for d past 2 wks.

They say med skul is d hardest institution ever established. Well dat iss arguably true. Wr else in d world will u b asked to answer 500 MCQ question in 1 hour. Nd knowin wrong answers attract negative markin *sighs*

My first incourse in med school was on gross anatomy 2 weeks afta resumption (topics included: Intro anatomy; Osteology of d upper limb (bones and joints); Vein, arteries and lymphatic drainage of the UL; Axilla (armpit) and content, includin brachial plexus (collection of nerves to the arm); breast.

All that learned in 2 weeks (med skul no b beans). Well I had lil prob because I read a lot b4 resumption, partly cos of excitement nd partly cos I was adviced to.

Well d incourse came nd we wrote it. Incourses are written in 3 parts:
MCQs - a statement is made, nd u decide if it is true or false.
Essay - u are asked to gv an essay on a particular topic or body. Clinical correlates gv extra points.
Practicals (which I hate) - a steeple chase style which u asked to identify a body part or its function (even innervation).

The MCQ was 200 statements in 1hr and 3 essay questions in additional 1 hour.

Okay day of checking result and was told by a senior colleague he found from a NYSC assistant lect d highest was 66%. I was jittery....66%? highest? Cue different questtions. Could it be me? Will I even pass? Buh I tried na.

The D-Day, I got to d board scared as hell. Wat will it be? My first incourse!!!
Pple already checked. Some above average, some really poor. Where will I fall?

I scanned d board....Where is my damn matric no...here it is, last on d page.

Yaaaaay!!!!! Yaaaay!! I scored the highest. Dat was how I felt inside, tho was givinn a pretty calm outlook.

Twas a nice feelin startin well....trust u need a whole lot of confidence in med scchool, nd startin well is the bbest way to START...dat sounded betta in my mind...LOL
