http://africansuntimes.com/2015/09/attempts-being-made-to-tarnish-ambassador-ogwus-image-over-buharis-u-n-visit/ ATTEMPTS BEING MADE TO TARNISH AMBASSADOR OGWU’S IMAGE OVER BUHARI’S U.N. VISIT September 27, 2015 By conyeani A concerted effort is being made to damage the pristine image of Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations since the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari for the United Nations 70th General Assembly meeting by individuals who covet the position and are willing to do anything to get the post. Since Buhari’s arrival, two things have happened, one a speculation and the other an event that drew the ire of the United States and the European Union. These individuals have hired some journalists to blame the Nigerian Mission to the U.N. for what is speculated to have happened about Buhari’s intention to shake hands of Pope Francis who had addressed the U.N. on Friday. The Pope’s visit to the U.N. and time of his speech had been prominently announced, as well as time he would shake hands with world leaders after his speech. Most leaders got in before the scheduled time and were able to hear and shake hands with the Pope. On the other event, a meeting scheduled by the U.N. for fundraising for the refugees in the Lake Chad Basin area, encompassing Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger, had been explained away by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media as not overly official, and which the presidency did not consider important enough to attend. This absence of Nigeria has drawn criticism from both the United States and the European Union, especially as the refugee problem has emanated from the Boko Haram menace in Nigeria. The Nigerian U.N. Ambassador Prof. Joy Ogwu is highly regarded by her colleagues in the 7 years she has served at the United Nations in representing Nigeria. In the 7 years of her stewardship, Nigeria has snagged the chairmanship of the UN Security Council three times, a feat that the country had achieved only once in the other 48 years since independence. Nigeria served out its last chairmanship of the Security Council on 31st August, and members of the UN correspondents association praised Prof. Ogwu for her professionalism and accessibility. But the vultures circling the wagon for appointment to the position of Permanent Representative are bent on damaging her highly commendable accomplishments for Nigeria. Of course, it is already known that Buhari would eventually and has already started withdrawing all politically appointed ambassadors. The Prof. Ogwu’s detractors are using the same playbook of the irresponsible Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State in Nigeria, who set out to destroy former Finance Minister Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s reputation, but failed woefully. The Nigerian presidency needs to look within its rank for whatever mistakes have occurred since its arrival in New York, which has never been the case in the past. It was the height of incompetence for the SSA on Media to put out an irresponsible and dishonest statement on what happened about the very important meeting on the refugee problem in the Lake Chad Basin area. The best action would have been to keep quiet rather than advertising the same ignorant deception to the world as used in Nigeria. |

Even if Prof Ogwu didn't remind buhari and his bunch of clowns about the meeting... Didn't they have the official UN brochure for the event Couldn't they have asked questions about such events contained therein that concerned Nigeria for which NO representation has been assigned? Or they were simply taking pictures on the streets to celebrate their ineptitude ![]() Buhari keeps displaying his ignorance to governance and diplomatic relations...He blames Jonathan at home and now Joy Ogwu for abroad smh |

This reply is lucid. The salient points raised was not addressed. What happened to the president's itinerary provided by prof. Joy I think she should start her explanation from there. |

The Nigerian U.N. Ambassador Prof. Joy Ogwu is highly regarded by her colleagues in the 7 years she has served at the United Nations in representing7 years! 7 good years! This is not a mistake! It was a planned work. Not only must she be sack...... She must also be investigate. |

Zuris:You should start by asking why the presidency barred embassy officials from the team, even as background, hidden, or inconsequential members. In a normal setting the presidency, ministry of foreign affairs, and the embassy would cordination and synchronize action for the benefit of the country, no not Buhari, he wants Oshiomhole to lead him around NYC. the blind doesn't lead the blind successfully! |

luvmijeje:Buhar is slowly learning the importance of Nigeria's world class professionals who may have different political ideas from him. If he purposely excludes the ambassador from his team, wouldn't you be beating about the bush to speak of investigating her ![]() |

luvmijeje:I hope you get to see now the importance of buhaei appointing his noisemakers fast enough? ...Who would you sack for the dying economy which has no direction since May 29th because this international blunder is reminiscent of what is happening in Nigeria economy why you celebrate buhari as god blindly ![]() |

BALLOSKI:Yoruba fool, what about if this was a well orchestrated tacit avoidance on the part of the presidency, firstly, to find a reason to fire ogwu, so as not to be able to expose their comming anti igbo /Niger delta agenda to the international community. Secondly, those avoided events were all Islamic practices or cultural way of life. Am I making any sense here people?. |

Chai!!! 7 years of great service and she's on the chopping block after 2 days with Buhari? Goes to show you the type of country we live in...where hate triumphs over hard work. Same story with etteh, Adesina and NOI...blacks putting other blacks down while the whites take over everything. Tomorrow we'll blame whites for being racist while we blacks are worst |

Does it mean that the president and his entourage didn't study the brochure? If they did, does it mean they didn't circle the priority events? I think noise from the noise makers would have alerted him of his prioritised events. |

BALLOSKI:Why do ediots like you switch off your brains? The SA to Buhari had stated that the meeting convened for IDPs in the Chad basin as irrelevant and unofficial meaning that the presidential entourage had knowledge of the meeting but did not priotize it. The Pope's address to the UN had been announced over a month by the media. I even knew he was slated to address the US congress and the UN assembly well over a month! |

luvmijeje: See them ...smhPlz where are those mess and what specifically is buhari doing to clean them? Do you even understand the meaning of incompetence as to ascribe it to anybody here? Do you think clowns or people with your warped mentality and herd reasoning like yours are sent to UN![]() |

The mission did not provide vehicle to convene Mr president to the venue... since the venue was just opposite the hotel, the president walked down and was denied access to the gate he had to go back to the hotel before the mission car came, to make matter worse the mission car took them through another wrong gate where security operative turned our dear president back the second time. This was a very major set back that made him not to see the pope. What an embarrassment Whynotthetruth: |
