I love Nigeria. I love nigeria so much that I will like to leave it.
Why?
Cuz I like the best of things. I leave nigeria to learn the best things out there and come back to teach it here. Learn the best, teach the best.
Change starts from moving, the Nigerian general attitude is to complain.
Oh. I do complain, In fact I complained today about this ASUU strike stuff. But my complains ain't gonna change anything.
Keep on doing the same old thing and expecting change is that not a loser's game.
I am well aware that my opportunites are limited here in nigeria but nothing beats working hard. MJ said start with the Man in the Mirror.
I can't hate Nigeria well enough, because I was raised here and if I was not born here I would not have been to appriciate what the western countries have to offer.
But all in all, Nigeria remains the best place to raise kids that won't stand up to u wen they 12 or in their teens to tell u "mom shut up" and u make a fuss about it, u find urself in court. That is not cool.
I agree, there is a lot of basic amenities that the western world have to offer that nigeria might not be planning to apply. But I believe we have the ability to change things.
USA-wasn't always the 1st World economy, china wasn't always the second neither was Japan always the third world economy.
They got to where they are by each citizen working together both diasporeans and the ones in the country.
No need to wait for the government always.
If u check the US well, a lot of properties and co-oporations are privately owned, they provide employment opportunities for people.
That's why, I'll always rep Dangote. The man is really trying with his efforts to help Nigeria in his own way even though he is still making money out of it. He has the money to take care of himself outside nigeria, but he still puts some here, why can't we try to become people like him instead of dissing and cursing then finally adding "Let's Pray for Nigeria", Abi God will climb down from heaven and say "because thee have prayed so hard, I will change this Nation."

This is my 2 yen.

Bros,
These days I have gravitated from being annoyed to just doing whats best for me, I love Nigeria and its that simple, I am proud to be a Nigerian. I am not proud of the way things are in Nigeria at the moment but I really have no qualms with being a Nigerian. For me Nigeria is a peculiar place with peculiar problems, our nature as Africans affect so many things we do.
The real question is, what constitutes a better life to you?
What constitutes a better life to me?
As long as we differ on the above questions then we are just arguing or like I put it earlier looking at things from different angles. Life is not easy anywhere, depending on what a person wants to achieve whats important to me and to you would differ. Some people I know practically live away from their families inside the deep water making money to "make ends meet", they earn money that still blows my mind away but my preference for wanting to be close to my family makes me different. When they release new cars (which only their wives drive by the way grin grin grin ) I turn the other way and manage my tuke tuke, because to me family life is more important. To some other people giving their family all the good material things of life is what the better life is, to others its values and ish like that. To me its a balance.
Here are the facts,
1. There are Nigerians living in Nigeria who have a better life than Nigerians living in the UK and the US.
2. There are Nigerians living in the UK and US who have better lives than Nigerians living in Nigeria.

But why the hell would someone with a Masters Degree be doing Mr. Biggs Security in cold cold cold Aberdeen? grin grin grin

The city's changed a great deal and it's definitely a growing economy here. I think you could only ever enjoy living here with a good job. The cost of living is going up everyday...well decent wage but you 'll ve to be an engineer or work in oil and gas to get that. If u aint into engineering or oil n stuff, go down south. Its hard a place for a black man to get a job. Seriously!

@OP....no country is heaven....every country has its own problems...some more than others. Should Nigeria be a better country? Yes. Is Nigeria the worse country? No. Do the poorest of the poor in Nigeria even one day in their life ever eaten mudcake?..yes mudcake...biscuit made of mud and corn...or mud anything? Despite that, despite more can be done for their country...you can never ever find one of its citizens telling you they hate their country. Hate the system...hate the politicians...hate the corruption etc...but to say you hate the country in which you were born is like treason. The way you run off your mouth ...you should have nothing to do with Nigeria period....not be in NL...not having a Nigerian passport...not visiting Nigeria and not letting anyone know you are Nigerian. When you are asked where are you from what is your reply? Even if you become a naturalized citizen that can be revoked and you be deported to guess where? Today you are on the mountain top....proudly having diarrhea on the path that lead you there. Life has a way....do I have to say more?

You must have been suffering from an acute bout of inferiority complex even before you left NIGERIa.
How can a normal being call a country populated with over 150m people sh1thole?
DO you know what those super countries went through before becoming what they are?

@Op I have been a member on NL for a long while now but this is the first time I am commenting on a thread because I was really moved by your post.i would like to ask you, what defines you as human being; is it your job?, your salary or the kind of house you live in?. In my opinion what defines us and makes us unique is our culture and identity and if you deny that simply because things are dire in your home country then u r nothing but an empty shell of your true self. I am really shocked by the attitude of some nigerians like you, where do you think ur comtempt of nigeria will lead you, what will you say in future when your children ask you about their roots.Imagine that there is some ethereal record that holds the name of every person and their place of origin, your name will always be under nigeria even if you live abroad for a thousand years.
Many nigerians in diaspora chastize nigeria but they the few who may have been opportuned to get a quality education choose to wallow in another mans land rather than return and help their homeland because it so easy to point fingers rather than fight for the glory of their forefathers and their children unborn.
I myself am currently studying in u.s, I came here a few months ago and although there is constant light & water, surplus of food and many other amenities, no day passes by dat I don't wish I was back home in Nigeria & immediately I'm done with my 4 yrs of skul here I'm hopping on the nxt plane to naija to contribute my quota in helping the millions of nigerians and africans who have not had the opportunities I have had.

I can tell you that the corpse of your grandfathrrs, greatgrandfathers and their predecesdors rolled in their graves when u typed your post.

That post may have been written to show that Nigeria is country not worth living in but it rather proved that you are not worthy of being a nigerian citizen or an african.

If I were you I would pour libation to my ancestors and beg their forgiveness for uttering an abomination that brings shame to their legacy.

Okay that's enough! One thing i love the whites for is that they make home wherever they find success... Like a swiss woman i know in surulere forming omo eko. Why can't we be that way as well? Nigerians in Nigeria, make a success of Nigeria, and call it home. Nothing concerns you with those outside. It is as simple as that.

I beg no dey curse our beloved country again oooooo abi wetin make Nigerians wey dey dine with the high and mighty for abroad come say?
If you are privileged to live outside Nigeria does not mean you should sit down somewhere and say rubbish.Have you forgotten the likes of Nehemiah,Joseph and Daniel in the bible?Even though these people dined with kings they did not forget their beloved Jerusalem.Pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Nigeria) and you yourself will have peace or otherwise. Even though i also i live abroad does mean i should come on social network and curse Nigeria but to thank my stars if need be.
Madam, i beg PARK WELL i totally disagree with you on this.

There are unemployed Nigerians in Nigeria, there are unemployed Brits in the UK, and there are unemployed Americans in America. My point is that you shouldn't use the employment state of the subset you have met to judge that of the wider population of Nigerians.

Exactly. Some people act as if we owe them something. If I live abroad, and decide not to talk to you anymore, it's my decision. Nigerians do not respect others decisions, neither do they know what is called personal space. I live in the United States where electricity never goes off. I am treated with respect, and my human rights are protected. I'm a U.S. Citizen, and it baffles me how Nigerians act. The American culture is better than the Nigerian culture a million times. I could remember when I came back to Nigeria, with my adorable puppy dog. His name is Williams. I left my dog to go and bath only to see my dog being beaten by some guy. It really got me crazy why someone would want to maltreat a dog for no reason! I got pissed off, and took my dog, I left the next day back to my home the U.S. Even after my sisters pleas. It was a traumatic experience for my little puppy which affected his behavior and emotions. Must humans or animals suffer? I just don't understand.Nigerian claim to know all, and believe they are moral. Lmao! That's stupidity. In Nigeria, women are oppressed, here in the U.S. It's gender equality and respect. In Nigeria, elders or leaders use their power to suppress others, no one talks, because an elder is talking. Even if he is abusing others, no one talks. That's all bullshit. In America they have kids who are critical thinkers, who say no to abuse, or maltreatment from anyone (everyone demands respect) in Nigeria kids become timid, and fearful. The educational system in Nigeria is out of this world. In the U.S. You earn grades with your efforts, not by cheating. Here in the U.S. If they catch you cheating or plagiarizing, you will be expelled or even go to jail. So it's a no no. You work out your education with your head. That's why they value us when we come back. One of my friends who went back to Nigeria after being called to work, told the oil company she wouldn't take less than $55,000 (12million naira) per month+ allowances to start. they gave her a house, car etc. They gave her the job as the general manager now her salary is 40 percent higher. Let's talk about relationships. The Nigerian men see women as their slaves or human not worth much, lower than they are, who they can manipulate and take control of. while Here in the U.S. It's otherwise. They say American women are prosmicious, big lies. A woman's decision irrespective of her country is her choice, they say American women can't cook. Wait a minute, that's ridiculous. The food we eat do we get it from Nigeria? No! We have better varieties and healthier diets. We don't know how to cook your food, because we are Americans. Not that we don't know how to cook. If we decide not to cook, what's wrong with that? What's wrong in a man cooking too? This is all culture difference. Americans are awesome the way they are, just as Nigerian women feel they are awesome. So let's understand it. In technology, Nigeria is zero. In governance, zero, religion, zero. Social amenities and infrastructure, zero. Medical system is a flop, everyone uses self medication. The way Nigerians think at times piss me off.
The United States government has given me all I need to succeed and be a complete human with identity.
I have a dual citizenship. I have the United States passport and Nigeria's too. If you ask me to tear one, it will be None. I don't hate Nigeria, but I hope someday civilization will come into that barbaric uncivilized nation.

Amerinancy:
