Almagamation is the joining of different entities into one.

The North and South were almagamated for the seamless exploitation of the south by Britain and continual colonization.

The North was against almagamation but their master (Britain) had made a decision they have to abide while the South had their elders' heads cut off to instill fear and force their invention.

The British benefited and still benefiting from the almagamation and the north was given a lifetime benefit to rule.

Back to op, the reasons why lord luggard amalgamated northern and southern protectorate is because the Great Britain was not benefiting much from the north. The northern's resources/capital intensive and their gdp was much lower than that of the whole eastern state minus southwest nigeria. So they suggested to merged the northern nigeria with the southern nigeria to generate more incomes that will helped developed great britains and their personal interest.


Presently, the amalgamation is dead and is not working, it s not a permanent experiment but that of a temporary. Our took so long cos some countries like the amalgamation of indian, pakistan and Bangladesh experienced it temporarily and dissolves It immediately without regrets.

But in africa, the northern(hausas) can't do without the biafrans oilyel,
The southwest(yoyobar) can't do without the biafrans development in their areas, trade and investment. etc

So they keep dying to sustained,maintained and retained the amalgamation.

That s why you see several monkeys in the zoo trying his or her possible best to cause enmity between igbos and south south peeps.

There is a need to understand that this entity has its root like most nations in a 'mercantile' company that is relating to trade or commerce. Nigeria as it exists today was already a nation in the making given the shared interests for self determination by enlightened natives of the era (early protectorate(s) to late 1950s. There was massive rennaisance in the area only old conservative approach to social problems still abound making radical development difficult.
