OK NOW LETS SEE
Re: NASS Planning Immunity Laws For Senate President, Speaker, CJN by Goke7: 8:44am On Oct 05, 2015
The simple solution to this is for PMB to send a bill to the house to completely remove immunity from our political space entirely. Honestly no politician should have immunity in whatever form. This will also make it easier to send another bill stop Politicians from getting perpetual injunctions to evade prosecution for corruption.

The Senate may just be doing us a favor by providing a platform for the immunity question to be dealt with once and for all.

The Senate President by this may indicting himself the more before Nigerians that he was guilty after all with the charges he had already pleaded not guilty to. What a shame.

thank you for the enlightenment. does that also apply to bills seeking to amend a part of the constitution, because I believe granting such immunity will be an amendment of the constitution. I think.

Leave that badly educated ancient of days, he doesn't know it's an "Ammendment of the constitution"

The president will never assent to that bill so they can keep "planning"..

It will give them something to occupy the LITTLE time they actually spend at plenary.

As for saraki, it brings to mind the Yoruba adage "won pe e lole, oun gbe omo eran jo"

Loosely translated, it means "you are alleged to be a thief & you still go dancing with a goat's kid.

Its actually a give and take thing.

The proposal by the PDP minority leader is Dead On Arrival. This is a constitutional amendment. It requires two-third majority of the senate and the House of Representatives to scale the first hurdle. The second hurdle is that two-third majority of the members of house of assembly in at least 24 states must approve it. The third hurdle is that the President must assent to it. If you doubt presidential powers, revisit what president Jonathan did to the last constitutional amendments in May 2015

There is nothing like amandment!!! Immunity for the NASS leadership was not existing before so there is nothing to amend here!! The bill only needs to be passed by 2/3 of the NASS for it to become law.If the president witholds assent, his veto can be overridden by 2/3 majority of the NASS

I intend to make this as simple as possible, S.58 of the 1999 Constitution provides for the mode of exercising legislative power in general as follows:

(1) The power of the National Assembly to make laws shall be exercised by bills passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives and, except as otherwise provided by subsection (5) of this section, assented to by the President.

(2) A bill may originate in either the Senate or the House of Representatives and shall not become law unless it has been passed and, except as otherwise provided by this section and section 59 of this Constitution, assented to in accordance with the provisions of this section.

(3) Where a bill has been passed by the House in which it originated, it shall be sent to the other House, and it shall be presented to the President for assent when it has been passed by that other House and agreement has been reached between the two Houses on any amendment made on it.

(4) Where a bill is presented to the President for assent, he shall within thirty days thereof signify that he assents or that he withholds assent.

(5) [b] Where the President withholds his assent and the bill is again passed by each House by two-thirds majority, the bill shall become law and the assent of the President shall not be required [\b]
Oga Chukwudi!!!!!!!! This is not a bill but constitutional amendment You need to read about that..

Please let us for once strive along the course of building our nation rather than building personalities. We are blessed with a selfless leader let the progressives in the legislature and the judiciary take the front stage fearlessly to sanitise our system. We need to live as humans rather than animals serving only the strong. The concept that someone is found to abuse his office and enriched himself with publics funds and that a caveat is been sought for him to jump justice will kill the system. In civilised societies where governance is given the seriousness it deserved the allegations wielded against Saraki by a constitutional institution like the CCT will first have him resigned as the president of the senate. Nigerians must stand in unison behind govt institutions fighting any corrupt person if we want to build an ellegantarian society. We have the opportunity with Buhari.
I have always seen this immunity clause as an abuse of office. Now it is obvious. Next thing, the other senators will seek for it or even include it in this amendment. Well, I think it is getting to the point where all Nigerians deserve immunity. Maybe they should so it do all and let chaos reign. All animals are definitely not equal.

Immunity for the NASS leadership is better than having a rubber stamp legislature which can easily be intimidated and made to dance to the whims and caprices of the executive!!
Fool which power did the President abuses?

I am sure nigerians will rise and put pressure on this rogue called NASS to drop this unreasonable agenda. This is this time we are praying that fraudster and corrupt people in govt should face the law for stealing and some idiot are thinking about how to protect the fraudster.

We are talking of removing immunity from the constitution, they are planning to widened the scope, very soon the traditional rulers will ask for immunity. I think this people have forgotten that they are elected to serve and not to lord. [/quote
