Yes sir,I tried spawning with a male n female (both clarias) and it was a success. Got to learn some things like my newly hatched fries passing thru d net at d outlet n escaping (no wonda dey kept reducing then) ..lol...they are 3 weeks n 2 days today and currently feeding on coppens 0.5mm but i noticed dey don't eat much like before..av tried giving them shebavit but no difference

@abix, have u had experience on formulating fish feed from other protein source apart from fish meal? How was the outcome? During scarcity of soyabean, poultry farmers turned to bambara but. Have u tried it as protein source? Does plant protein have lesser feed conversion ratio than animal protein.
Please anyone with such experience can give his/her input.

Well done ma, you have done pretty good. Always make sure the net is well wraped to prevent fries escaping. Fries don't eat much at this stage just mentain good water quality. Are you stocking for growout or selling as fingerlings/juvenile?

Thank you sir...I intend to sell as fingerlings... Also apart from not eating much,they keep lying on the surface of d water. It started about 2 days ago and av changed their water,no difference. Are they sick or something?? Plz help

I just started a small fish farm yesterday in a plastic container pics will be coming soon
pls I want to know which feed is best for them because I can't find Ziegler feed which was recommended by our Oga at the top(robonski15)
And also I want to know if its advisable to feed ur fish with live maggots if yes at what stage should you start

It is called 2mm not 3mm (indomie size). Base on the formula you used that is why the feed is that long. You can use your hand to break it when feeding them.

1. By your definition of floating feed, you mean pelleted industrial feed such as, coopens, multifeed, Zeigler, and Durantee, Aquafeed, Vital feed that are produced by foreign and local feed manufacturers for farmers.
The advantages include:
a. Minimal wastage
b. Reduce water pollution
Disadvantage:
a. Expensive compare to locally made feed
b. Formula is constant and cant be manipulate by farmer
c. Some locally made feeds perform better than most imported feed

2. Budget 1.2kg feed @ N320

There is no way you can make local feeds without having dust.
To reduce it, you need to make use of a lot of flower and molasis
Use a seive to seive the dust from the finer particles
Take the dust back to the feedmill to repellete it for you ( They do it for FREE)
If you like too, you can add the dust to your next local feeds

You can read the link and digest it.
From the post, its put in jute bags. We call it akpa aji in Igbo language.
I think its d same thing as fertilization , but in other fertilisation I've seen, poultry dropping are used instead of cow dungs.

Please, like u said, just experiment. Remember most of the information we get on the internet are not true. Most of those ppl make money from consulting and not real practical experience. That is why contributions by practical farmers on this thread are priceless. Its so invaluable.

You are stressing them. You should change water every three days. Even if you want to do so, you need to allow little water from the old water to cover them before pumping fresh water on them

Hope they are not over-stocked in the 2000ltrs tank? There shouldn't be need to change water daily even if u use local feed.

Hello house,
Please I washed my tank last week thur with salt, bin d first time ever since I stock my fishes since July ending.
I usually change the water every 2 days bt due to lack of power supply since last week thur i decided to change it once in 3 days. Today I went to feed them BT I discovered that they r changing colour to white and small green and its so bad. They r playing well n eating well bt d colour changing is so bad n it makes them look ugly.
Pls house wat do u think is happening to them n pls advice on how to correct it.
