Many are educated but few are learned, many have been blindfolded by ethno/tribal hate. PH shoresshores ( continental shelf ) is steep & not deep unlike Lagos shores. Lagos shores has natural harbour which prevent ships from wreckage. PH port require regular dredging to enable ships to sail to the shores & construction of artificial harbours to prevent sea waves from wrecking ships. These two factors are capital intensive. The late Yar'dua tried to dredge the lower Niger but no meaningful result despite spending huge amount. 7 Likes |

alaoeri: Per the bolded, this is arrant nonsense. The Port Harcourt wharf was adequately competing with Apapa wharf before the civil war. However after the civil war, Nigeria government redrew the importance of the wharfs even the Apapa was expanded to include Tin Can. One governor from the southern Nigeria once question if the Lagos was part of eastern region where the civil war was fought that all the redevelopment, reconstruction and rehabilitation are directed toward Lagos. The one of the major problems of Nigeria is display of disingeunity by its citizens. 5 Likes |

Duru1:Put tribal sentiment aside, river Niger empty itself along PH shores & come along with a large deposit of sand particles, Abacha tried to dredge it up to Kogi while Yar'adua tried it up to Baro both are fruitless mission, take a trip to PH port & observe things by yourself, cargo ships won't be able to sail near PH's shores, as for development & rehabilitation directed towards Lagos IBB is still alive maybe you should direct your question to him. 3 Likes |

If the South South and South East had sense, they should have made Ibaka deep sea port a reality. Igbo's would have gone home since. |

alaoeri: Where is the tribal sentiment about economic infrastructure needed to help Nigerians? The only person bringing tribal sentiment to this discourse is you. Do you know how many times Apapa Wharf has been dredged? Apapa Wharf has the same topological features as PH wharf. There is no deep-sea cargo port in Nigeria except the proposes port at Ibaka or if Nigerian government will look at Opu Obu (Opopo). You seemed to be confused about dredging of a river with Abacha proposal. Even deep-sea ports are often subjected to dredging. 1 Like |

new2020: This explains why Jonathan will forever be a cursed man and if you are one of his supporter you are cursed forever along with your entire generation. If babangida can within 7 yrs build a complete state from the revenue his forefather as no right what stopped Jonathan from build a seaport within 5 years to the source of the wealth which he as bonafide right but rather chose to loot to hell. I hope you are not wailing for Buhari to correct this injustice because if you are may you not do good for the rest of your life but if not and willing to solely relish the non performance orchestrated by Jonathan till another southern takes over may the goodness n mercy of the Lord be with u forever more. 6 Likes |

stanech: Brilliant suggestion but was your brain dead when Jonathan was the president ? Keep your idea n brilliance in the cooler till the next 4 or 8 years when a southerners bcoms the president again. The abokis we all know are not your slave. If a Southern president can not do it then you do not deserve it. 5 Likes |

All our resources shld not be channeled to dredging of pH port alone because the little dredging that took place in river Niger with no significant purpose cos the country a fortune 1 Like |

Let me start by saying I'm an Igbo guy....... Is there any law stating that the ports in the S.S should not b used? If not, why can't my Igbo business men route their containers or whatever to that side. U don't expect a Yoruba man with his company in d S.W to route his goods to the S.S then transport t on road to d S.W. Since my Igbo brothers have their companies in the S.E, d question becomes, what EXACTLY r they scared of that z stopping then from taking their goods to these S.S ports? 4 Likes |

alaoeri:Are you sure you studied your geography properly. The River Niger flow into the creeks of Brass and not P/H. There is a big difference between dredging the Niger like the Suez canal to make way for bigger ships to Lokoja and dredging the channel of the Onne port. |

patmaine:Feel free to say so... In fact, I totally agree with you and your ilk, the yorubas in connivance with the FG have ensured for decades that every other port in Nigeria dies except the over crowded port in yorubaland. Very brilliant analysis! Anyway, permit me to say you are a typical African; every problem (even a headache) is viewed as an orchestration of your enemies to harm and frustrate you. But bro, where has that sort of mentality left your continent? 3 Likes |

Chiaka:What is the truth? what imbalance are you talking about? Is the PH port working? yes, Does it still receive ships yes, Is there any law or policy prohibiting ships from berthing and utilizing PH port? (You can get more clarification from any NPA office close to you or write to AGM ops western port Apapa) No If you igbos want PH port to thrive, Fill PH port in your FORM M prior to your importation. Yoruba businesses are predominantly domiciled in the sw they are not the ones that will make the port thrive. Your people prefer to route their goods through Lagos and they are the ones that STUPIDLY say PH port is underutilized. As an Importer, you have a right to route your goods through any port you so desire Apapa, Tincan Grimaldi PTML PAN ATLANTIC KLT, PH etc, just fill it in your form M and inform your shipper to look for a liner that ply that route. Am a freight forwarder and I should know. outline the policies initiated by the FM specifically targeted towards ensuring that the PH port is underutilized. PH port is working. ----------------->>NEXT PROPAGANDA. 2 Likes |
