Whenever Russia and US are mentioned, some people start misbehaving. Let me summarize this issue once again. Every country in this syria mess are guilty of pursuing their selfish interest. What you are seeing in syria today is not about saving syrians, far from it. it is about some selfish interset by the powers that be.

1. US is in syria not really to fight ISIS but to remove Assad, checkmate Iran and to secure some economic deals among other selfish interests.
2. Russia is in syria to Prevent Assad from falling, safeguard their Naval base in syria, secure economic deals, protect other selfish interest and challenge the US and bring back the Russian power and not to fight ISIS
3. Iran is player in the conflict to further her own growing influence having captured Iraq, by ensuring the syrian govt stands and not necessarily fighting ISIS
4. Saudi, Turkey etc are in the region to ensure Iran does not have the upper hand and to ensure power is returned to the Sunnis in Syria.
5. ISIS is fighting to create its own Islamic state where they can rule with their own version of Sharia law and fortunately for them, the people who should fight them have their main interests

So in this war, fighting ISIS is secondary among all the players and an excuse to be in syria. Unfortunately, the losers are the civilians who have been used to play war games among competing interests. Anybody who thinks Putin is in syria to fight ISIS and save civilians is just plain naive. Like the US, wetin concern Putin with ISIS. Now, as i write, Yemen is on fire. The govt forces backed by the saudi's is bombing the houti rebels while Iran is sponsoring the rebels because they are shittes. Civilians are dying in droves, both Russia and the US are just watching and supporting form the sidelines because Yemen offers no benefit. The same Iran backing govt forces in Syria is backing rebels in Yemen while the Saudis and the Americans backing rebels in Syria are backing govt forces in Yemen. Where is Russia in Yemen? No wherek because there interest is not there despite civilians dying.
Gentlemen, this world powers are so selfish and wicked. It pans me to see how nairalanders take sides in this evils committed against humanity. people are dying in thousands and what some people are interested is in how Russia will defeat America or how America will defeat Russia insulting each other in the process. I warn you guys once again that this war you guys tactically wishing to happen between the US and Russia, when it happens, you might not live to know which cruise missile is superior to the other or who will win the war.
Thanks.

One quick correction on earlier discussion. During the Iraq war, most US cruise missiles flew over the Zagros mountain of Iran before heading West to Iraq because war planners were not sure if the featureless desert of Iraq will result to the loss of the Tomahawks.

You keep making excuses for Russia LOL. Russia only left when the Soviet Union fell and stay was no longer sustainable. If the could they will still be there.According to Russia historians, they liberated Hungry not conquered it. So your conquered territory excuse will not fly.

US occupied territories had elections, Japan was better off after the war even thou they were nuked, South Korea was better off and that was the same story with West Germany. There was a broad Marshall plan to rebuild those places. Every single city the Red Army " liberated" turned to shite and property looted back to Russia and dictators installed.

I repeat. US did not support British adventure in Egypt. Here is an excerpt from Rolling the Iron Dice: Historical Analogies and Decisions to Use Military Force in Regional Contingencies Ike was not interested in any military adventure whatsoever.

US is a very imperfect society but Putin's Russia is no Eldorado as well.

Lol. How many miles did those cruise missiles travel before hitting Iraq? And why over mountains? Russian cruise missiles went over two countries and over the featureless desert of Iraq US war planners were scared of. Peep the difference and give respect where it's due.

However, that's better than the US getting chased out of Bay of Pigs and Vietnam. The US also left Latin America when the countries woke up and demanded power. At least Russians always leave voluntarily - the same can't be said about the US. You have to kick the US out before it leaves. Another classic example is Germany - just take a look at how the Russians left the country alone, even when most western countries lobbied against it. Margaret Thatcher actually begged the Russians not to leave Germany and if the Russians weren't good guys - the Berlin wall would still be there today. But look at how they paid the Russians back for the good gesture and doing what's right with a country they actually defeated? The US still occupies Germany and it has no plans to leave any time soon. Sad.

Anyway, what's the difference between liberated and conquered in military analogy? Let's use Korea as an example. Is South Korea a liberated or conquered territory? And why's the US still occupying the country and still in-charge of its foreign policy?

Lol. That's why the whole of Latin America is a shytehole and the only country that's decent out there is Cuba, no? Why didn't the US turn Latin America into model countries since it controlled those countries for a long time? All the former Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries are like paradise compared to Latin America. And we would have to compare Russian influence in China vis-a-vis Japan. grin

The US supported the British and French invasion of Egypt during the Suez Crisis. If not, why did the yanks get involved when Khrushchev threatened to nuke both Paris and London?

I never said Russia is "eldorado" and I could care less about which of the two is "eldorado" cos I'm a black man. However, this is about: RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY vs. WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY.

I hear you. Russia indeed do have a better strategy in Syria

Point is, The US navy have moved far beyond hitting static targets with cruise missiles and have successfully tested synthetically guided Tomahawk missiles that can hit moving targets, alter its course toward the moving target after receiving position updates from surveillance aircraft/drones. They can even loiter over a target area. When Russia have the capability in 2056, Let me know cool.

The only area Russia can even dream to compete with the US navy is with submarines. Most Russian naval surface ships are old soviet legacy relics. They are modernizing however i will give them that.

S300 is a fascinating piece of technology but USAF wont even break a sweat penetrating it. There are advanced Miniature Air-Launched Decoys that can render it obsolete if it is integrated with Joint Standoff Weapons like AGM-154 and advanced Anti-Radiation missiles. A comprehensive USAF Iron Hand operation will amaze you.

Russia's military quality is impressive but very limited.

The only leverage Russia has are their stockpile of nuclear warheads, their naval assets aside the submarines are like relics not to mention their limping aircraft carrier which they don't have the capacity to build a new one in the near future, Since the fall of the Soviet Union the west has gone miles ahead with NATO, Russia'a drone tech is not up to speed, their version of a desert hawk leaves much to be desired.
They are good but still some way behind

Geography. Tomahawks were launched from the south of Iraq and Potinmissle was from the West. Since cruise missiles use maps for navigation. Mountain topography makes sense doesn't it?. I only brought it up again because of your statement that Russia had the missile over a formidable Iran anyway.

The Russians dont leave anywhere voluntarily lol. They left Eastern Europe when their empire went burst. The Red Army was so vicious in their land grab when the war was winding down they had to be stopped. I cant see any difference between Latin America and Russia's Eastern Europe.

Well, at least I agree with u on that. That was a big, bold lie! Nonetheless is was absolutely necessary that it went down the way it did. Russia was about to lose Crimea which historically used to be part of Russia and which was hosting a very strategic naval base.

Ask yourself, what would America had done if faced with such a threat?

Definitely the same thing but will come up with an elaborate lie. Russians are notorious for telling bold face lies. It is their tradition. America will make the lie more interesting and call it "facts on the ground" or "unnamed official"/ "Reliable source"

The launching of these Russian missiles had nothing to do with showboating. It is believed that the American were giving ISIS men warning signals when Russian jets are on sorties/bombing raids. The use of these missiles was for purely tactical reason since the element of surprise cannot be down played in warfare.

You guys keep talking about Russia destroying something. Their record on destroying a moving target is next to nothing.
all the missiles the OP was talking about were directed at static location and targets. 15% (up to 20% in some reports) failed to reach their destination even those that got "there" could be miles off.

The difference between Russian and USA is that Americans acknowledge their mistakes while the Russian would keep a long tin poker face.

They left Germany, and everywhere else. The US is still in Germany - why's that?

Lol. I just know a lot about the US cos I used to watch US TV a lot during Uni times cos that was when Obama was a hit. The Obama hype and other fvckeries. Then when Marc Lamont Hill became a regular on O'Reilly Factor on Fox News - I kinda went there with him cos that was my role model back then - young, highly educated, black, and still a product of his environment.

Lol. But politics aside, why do UK citizens hate Americans. In America most especially in NY the buzz thing there for ages has always been comparing NY to London - Americans or New Yorkers are always teased by the mere mention of NY as the greatest city in the world. I thought this malaise was only peculiar with NEw Yorkers until I visited London later year, and damn the average Londoner sees Americans as fat junks. Why dis dick measuring between Britons and Americans. Though, I honestly think Americans are more accommodative than Britons, because an average Briton sees himself as the apex of knowledge. My comment was based on what i am reading from your previous post since it seems you are East leaning.

Words should always be matched by actions. Russia's crusade for a multipolar world is based on her limitation to project power. If Russia was interested in multipolar world, The best place to start is her near abroad. Old soviet state she intimidates and controls since the days of Ivan the terrible. The Soviet Union was not interested in a multipolar world after 45 since her territorial gains secured the security of the state instead, The Soviet leadership was creating one puppet state after the other just like the West

That's cos New York stole everything London has especially Soho. Jk Jk.

I think New York was modeled after London but later outgrew London with skyscrapers, hence you'll see that a lot of places in Manhattan have the same names as places in London West End. So most Britons feel like they're the big brother and yanks are the little brother. Then you have to add the fact that most yanks are obese and extremely ignorant to the equation. There's no malaise per se, just Brits being honest and the honesty always have to come in form of sarcasm.

The average Brit just doesn't rate the average yank.

OP, not sure what Wertheim and the other foreign analysts the article refereed to have up their backside. Algeria tested this same missile 3 or 4 years ago. for them to claim "we all thought it could only fly 150 miles" brings into question their qualification.

No wonder you and Shymm3x engage in these never ending debates! When did I ever say one is better than the other? Please don't quote what I never said or even insinuated.

YOU were the one that jumped onboard with the West's lies cos of the manner in which it is told. Remember? Here it is again:

I then sarcastically responsed that just because Russia doesn't tell lies with the same tact that the U.S. does, that makes them the less desirable of the two lying nations? That's why I called you out and said you were better than that!

I can't believe I need to explain this to you. Yikes!

And speaking of imperialistic ambitions: what country is ceaselessly calling for a multipolar world based on respect for individual sovereignty and acceptance of difference in opinion and culture whilst maintaining 1 or 2 military bases abroad and which country is dictating to others whilst maintaining over 800 bases all across the globe and bombing dissenting, defiant countries into oblivion?

You tell me!

I doff my hat for you sir! No one does or says it better

Washington Suspected of Delivering Weapons, Food to Extremists

Raw footage recently posted on Twitter allegedly shows supply crates and parachutes that the US delivered to Islamic State militants while they were in control of Iraq's largest oil refinery. The video caused an uproar among Iraqis, some of whom believe that Washington is supporting the brutal group.

The footage was published by Hayder al-Khoei, an associate fellow in the Middle East and North Africa Program at Chatham House. Titled 'US supports ISIS,' it is said to be one of many similar videos circulating on the internet.

The recording, reportedly made at the Baiji refinery, shows an unidentified man speaking in Arabic. He asks the person shooting the video to film everything he sees around him.

Pointing at what appears to be a parachute, he says that it was sent by Americans to the Islamic State, also known as ISIL/ISIS. The man adds that Americans delivered weapons and food to the Baiji oil field after it was seized by extremists.

The information presented in the video has not been independently verified.

Videos showing supply deliveries and helicopters "flying above Hashd/ISF positions towards ISIS-held areas reinforce the narrative that US supports Islamic State in Iraq," al-Khoei commented in a tweet.

One of the Twitter users noted that supply crates could have been dropped when Iraqi security forces were trying to ward off ISIL offensive. The area around Baiji has seen intense fighting between government forces and militants since December 2014.
