The Pain of Regret: A subconscious story by Shola Afolabi (K.Mac).
As the day slowly fades away, I couldn’t help but ask myself what I achieved today. No! It can’t be nothing, at least I went to look for a job today, but still I wasn’t picked again.
What’s wrong with me? I wish I had someone who can explain what’s wrong to me, I wish I could talk with my subconscious self maybe it could help out, oh how I wish.
“Think deep” a voice whispered, it sounded as if it’s from within me as in my mind but nevertheless I still looked around maybe someone heard me soliloquizing but I can’t see anybody here. “It’s me your subconscious self” the voice said. How is that even possible I said, I mean you are in my head but it doesn’t mean I could chat with you even though you control my reflexes? “Yea, I’m in your head but if only you are willing to hear me out, will I come out”. Please what’s wrong with me and what are the solutions to it? I asked.
“This all started a while ago, when you just got admitted into the university. I tried to warn you but you wouldn’t listen, until you finally shut me out totally. Your first three months in the university was quite adventurous I must agree but you made a mistake the night you decided to start drinking. Can you remember that I warned you while you were having a hard time deciding what to wear but did you listen? No! Instead you wanted to be a phenomenal guy; you wanted to be the opposite of what your parents trained you to be. Remember that you drank to stupor that night and woke up to fever or is it ‘Hangover’ the next morning. I tried using the headaches to stop you from trying it out another time and when you agreed, I was so happy. Exactly some weeks after, you saw a girl during an ongoing lecture that you were attracted to as a young guy that you were. I told you having her as a friend won’t be bad because you need someone you can ask some certain things you don’t know and need to know. When she told you that she was in the same department as yours, I saw it as an added advantage because now you will have access to handouts and notes you exchanged . You called her later that evening and she asked you to come to her house that she was lonely, I told you to tell her that you were busy because I sensed trouble, why will someone you just met today ask you to come and see her with the reason that she was lonely?.[color=#006600][/color]

Loneliness is a weapon the devil use to deceive many youths this days because when you feel lonely, that means she’s ideal and that’s the devil workshop. Was wiser have taken a first step into land of troubles but you didn’t listen to me, you told her that you were lonely too and will love to see her. She gave you her address and you got dressed within a space of five minutes, I never stopped warning you, I told you about the risk you are taking, the implications, and every other thing you already know. I told you not to start your friendship on this basis with her, meet her tomorrow in school but you turned deaf ears to me and went to her house. Only you and she knew what you did indoors until her boyfriend came knocking and there was no place to hide. Now you realize that you are screwed, you dressed up and wanted to form that you were reading but the guy was wiser than you thought and he dragged you out and his guys started beating you mercilessly but luckily for you, you ran out of there and never stopped until you got to your room. You were in pains and so you decided to sit outside for fresh air; your mood changed after you realized that you screwed up then a guy saw your mood and approached you; he asked what happened and I begged you not to tell anyone not because it was shameful but because it was stupid. You narrated your story to him and he felt your pain and he told you he had a pain relief drug to help you out with the pains. He brought out a drug that was strange to you and I continued pleading with you not to take it but rather go to a chemist and buy the normal pain relief drug you know but instead of listening to me, you allowed pain take over your reasoning. After about fifteen minutes, I felt something hitting me so hard that it knocked me out and when I woke up, you were on your way to a place I was sure you don’t know. When you reached the place, he brought out something and started rolling it up in something that looks like a paper, you were already unconscious of what was happening around you. After rolling it, he lit it up that was when I realized that it was marijuana and I started pleading with you not to start smoking nevertheless, he took some drags of the smoke and then passed it to you. I kept on pleading with you even though I knew you won’t answer me because of the drug you took. You collected the smoke and took a careless drag which choked you and even me, you coughed so hard that it burnt your chest, I was hoping that the pain will stop you from taking another drag but my hopes were cut short when you took another drag but this time gently. The guy rolled another one for himself and another one for you and then he rolled the third one that two of you will share. While you were sharing the last smoke, he brought a topic about the beatings you received and he told you about a group of people who came together because of a mutual understanding that nobody should disrespect them and go free, he said they can help you revenge the beatings u got but after that, you must join them. Under the influence of the drug, you agreed and he started making calls, all this while I was still begging to reconsider your decision. After the smoke finished, the both of you left the smoking joint and went to meet some group of people (they were about fifteen of them) and he introduced you to them as part of the group of people he told you about, then he narrated your story to them and even added some extras to it.

Only GOD is perfect in everything. I am but a human being like you with many flaws even more than you know so please feel free to tell me what u feel abt d story either its a compliment or rebuke. Both of 'em are appreciated. Thanks pls don't jst view nd go, help me too in my prospect of becoming a good writer. This sub-conscious story is what happened 2 someone somewhere but with a little twist in the story. I'm still working on another one titled EXPERIENCE WITH BAVITOT AND THE STRANGE LAND. I'll drop the conclusion of dis story now.

The guys were already numb from taking different kinds of drugs and smoking so much, even if some didn’t do it, they were as dumb as an illiterate in a library; all they want to hear is the word fight and when the guy mentioned it, they were already angry as if they were the one who received the beatings. Someone among them asked you to lead the way to the girl’s house and the others supported it. They followed you till you reached the girl’s house and luckily for u, he was just sitting outside his room with his friends chatting noisily. You pointed the guy to your defenders and they said you should go and call him but when you got there the guy refused standing up. You started warning him that if he doesn’t stand up, then he is asking for trouble. But he refused still and his guys were shouting at you so the guys you came with, approached where you guys were and they also started shouting that the guys thinks they will beat you like that and go free? Then you slapped the boyfriend. The slap made the guys you came with, rush the other guys and a fight started. Someone among those you came with, saw a bottle nearby, broke it and then he used it to stab the boyfriend on his back. When your guys saw what happened, they started running out of the compound and you followed suit but unluckily for some of you, a police patrol car was passing bye and they fired a few shots in the air and started chasing all of you. They managed to catch five of the other guys and you couldn’t escape because one of the cops had a gun to your head and he threatened to shoot you if you try anything funny. You turned to check if the guy who introduced you to drugs and smoking within a space of four hours was arrested also but he wasn’t there; he had escaped with the others and now, you are left to face your own misery along with the other guys whom you just only about an hour ago. The police cared less about what caused the fight; all they did was arrest all of you and took you to their station in their patrol car. Throughout that night, they never stopped beating you guys and the beatings were worse than the one those guys gave you. The next morning, they took all of you back to the school and handed all of you to the school security and by now, you were back to your normal sense because of the all night drilling you received. You tried reaching out to me for help but I was so angry that I went hiding and left a ‘HAD I KNOW’ tone playing continuously in your head. The school rule said any fight that occurs between two or a group of people, the offenders (fighters) shall be expelled from the university with immediate effect. You tried pleading with the securities but instead of helping, the Chief Security Officer ordered the young security boys to beat you a little so that your sense will widen the more and you will notice that there’s no hope. You managed to escape from the beatings and then went to see a friend of yours who took you to meet a lecturer who told you he can help you but you’ll have to pay him. After paying him, he dropped the bomb on you that he tried but it just didn’t work out so you were duped and there was nothing you could do because you are no more a student of the university. Your name was posted in every department along with the other guys and it was written that anybody that sees any of you on campus should report to the school security that means you were now wanted. You tried your best to see if you can survive on your own but it didn’t work out well even the guy who introduced you to drugs couldn’t help because he doesn’t want to lose his admission too.

The worst thing was that he still gave you that drug and some marijuana to smoke and you still collected them. After some days, you were running broke so I decided to help out a little and I gave you an option of going home to see if you can plead with your dad. When you got home and explained what happened, your dad freaks out and disowns you because you brought him shame and your mum couldn’t believe what she heard but she still supported her husband even your siblings were angry because you have stained their image outside. So your whole family rejected you because nobody wants to identify with a failure but you got a little lucky when an uncle of yours was able convince your mum to help you with transport fare back to the village where he lives with his family. When you got there, he offered you an empty room and told you that once you are here, you play by his rules.
Firstly, you are to try your best and look for a job you can do to enable you feed yourself because he is not financially strong to add you to his feeding list. Secondly, the only time you can join them for a meal is if you helped him in the farm, and also help his wife in her shop. Thirdly, he has the right to send you packing if he feels he doesn’t like your character. Now after three weeks of endless searching for a job, you remember you had a subconscious self who usually helped you out with ideas on how to live in this world. But you also forgot that someone sent me here for a purpose and if only you had considered listening to me when I was warning you, if only you had given me a chance to show you that there are other ways in solving every problem, if and only if you listened to my pleas, all this would have been avoided.
But I came out of hiding just so I could tell you that it’s not yet late to make a life changing decision, to tell you that if those people lying in coma in the hospital still have hope, then there is still hope for you and there is still a better life waiting for you. This life I’m talking about is in Christ Jesus our savior. All you have to do is kneel down, confess all your sins to him and ask him for the forgiveness of your sins, tell him to come and save you, make him your personal lord and savior then go and meet your church pastor, ask him to pray for you for the forgiveness of your sins and he should pray that God should make out a way for you but you must believe always in him and also that there is always hope. Read your bible everyday and then we will become best of friends forever, abstain from anything that will hinder you from getting your answers from God, stop all those bad habits and you will notice a great change in your life even your parents will come back for you if you ask God for it. Please I’m begging you, listen to me now and stay happy forever or ignore me and regret again. Trust me I won’t remind you of your mistakes again and I won’t be there to advice you again because this time I’ll be gone for good. The one who sent me here hates sin and when you start to sin unrepentantly, he retrieves me and leaves you all by yourself. I’ll always leave the choice to you. I’ll be back when you make your choice but remember; only Jesus saves…





I end my stories according to what the story line entails. I write other type of stories too even poems but I know I'm still an amateur so don't criticize me that much although a little of it is allowed.

Please I'm begging y'all, don't read and go, drop ur comments. The reason I haven't started another story is bcoz no one has yet drop a comment. Dis first one was 4 d christian guys. D next one z 4 everybody coz it would be like u re watching a 3D movie at silverbird. Trust me its worth it!!!!! So ur comments decides when I'll start the story.

My n¡gga your story sucks. I couldn't relate how the kush smoking caused him to agree with their prompting. The story lacked depth, and for a short story it was too long. A certain element of thrill was missing. On a side note, I think Nigeria needs to legalise marijuana. Other countries are waking up to the possibility of marijuana tourism and It is a 185 billion dollar business.
