Former Lagos State Governor has once again cleared the air over the controversial N78 million spent for the upgrade of the website – www.tundefashola.com Lagos State Government under his watch as Governor in the state, spent the sum of N78 million for the upgrade of the website – www.tundefashola.com.

The former governor, who indirectly addressed the issue after the question, ”Did you really open a Website with 78Million Naira?” was raised by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe at the senate while he, Fashola was undergoing screening as a ministerial nominee at the senate chambers said he doesn’t sign checks or award contracts.

He added, “I don’t fix contract prices, it is an institutional process. The only training I have is that of a lawyer, But in order to execute works on a project we need the input of architect, quantity surveyors, structural engineer and we have consulting ministries; For civil works it is the Ministry of Works, for science it is the Ministry of Science and Technology among others.

Now periodically, they do market surveys with the Ministry of Economic Planning , the Statisticians are there to fix prices from biro to Iron rod to cement it is approved and it becomes the benchmark price of government procurement, nobody can award any other contract over that benchmark.”

The unfortunate things about money is that it often raises suspicions even among brothers. Nobody have alleged that I have corruptly enriched myself, I could not be the master of computers and technology, I need something to do my work. or award contracts.

It was not asked for information purposes, it was meant to indict but fortunately BRF left them scrambling in the dust behind him, while coasting home to victory...

Lame and idiotic excuse...

Fashola dis-associating himself with / from the process of the state? Who is giving the final approvals for the process and contracts?

Are there any competitive bidding for the contracts?

Is Fashola now saying their is institutional corruption in Lagos?

However, congrats Minister Fashola.

Not sure he answered the question head-on. His response was a manoeuvre by a typical seasoned politician.

But the bulk stops on his table and he should take responsibility for any anomaly that characterized his administration. It's funny how the same people that criticized and condemn Stella Oduah for what happened in her ministry are the ones now singing a different kind of tune. #Hypocrisy

I wonder when we would start to ask relevant questions from our leaders about accountability and good governance, without any bias or prejudice. (Irrespective of party affiliation)

Was there a budget for her spending?

Did she have to force the NCAA, an independent agency, to go borrow money for cars they never requested for?

The 2 cars documented were never found by the house committee that investigated the matter.

Why the initial denial by her aide, Joe Obi, over never buying the cars?
After more documentary evidence came out, same Joe Obi then admitted, claiming her job had made her step on many toes, so she needed the cars for protection.
Seeing that the excuse was rather foolish, the NCAA was then compelled to shoulder the blame, claiming the cars were bought to be part of the pool of cars to convey foreign partners of the aviation ministry.

Why all the contradictions?

It is also on record that she had been pressuring the NCAA to get those cars under the tenure of Harold Demuren, but she was met with reluctance. However, once Demuren was out of the picture, she got the Acting DG to rush the purchase without a budget.

Yet you think it is comparable to a budgeted spending, with project equally executed and documented in the state's own public records?

Do you have the contract details for this website? Must all websites be "average websites"?

Please provide it and let us analyse why it is expensive?

How come you have nothing to say about my expose on the Stella Oduah case?
Not all of us have a short memory, you know.

Did she commit a crime or not, making expenditures without a budget?

What crime did Fashola commit?

Oduah's case is a clear-cut scenario of financial impropriety. However, I do not see Fashola's case far from this as well. It is also a case of mismanagement. As much as I love the guy and would want him in the current dispensation, he really erred in his dealings on the website building. In my opinion, he has not satisfactorily shed light on this case and I see no reason why he should not be made to explicitly clear himself of the accusation.

Mr Fashola performed excellently at the senate chamber but if there is an area he failed it is on the 78 million naira website
I don't understand if he wanted to tell the senate that he was not responsible for what happened under his leadership.
I think he was simply beating around.

Senate also goofed on this. If I were to be in the senate and someone gives such a response, trust me, he has only opened further avenue for further drilling. He should have been properly questioned by asking the right questions. Cutting off bad elements starts from there. The fact that he is a favourite shouldn't be an excuse to exclude him from being quizzed the right way.

That's why I have said the contract details for the website be made available so we can analyse its contents for a proper critique.

I have seen a website designed for N10m in this same Nigeria. Unfortunately I cannot reveal the client.
So someone saying an average website is N200K must be referring to a 10kobo company's website.

What are the contract details for that website?

Then trying to compare it to a criminal who denied, then admitted, then the cars were never found, and Coscharis who procured the cars even lied that it was the Lagos State government that was buying them for the national sports festival, so as to defraud the nation by way of an undue import waiver.

Both cases are not to be compared at all.
