Can we please have decorum here and address the issues. This is likely a problem of misunderstanding of cultures and communication breakdown. My understanding as below and based on the post: 1. Deji and his people took offense at Eze Igbo wearing a crown to his palace while summoned. Perhaps a core Yoruba tradition ? Perhaps not, as it was mentioned that Obi of Onitsha cannot remove his crown while visiting the deji as well. One thing comes to mind from the Eze Igbos perspective. Once given the Eze Igbo title, you are Eze of your people and removal of your crown before anyone be it king or servant is unacceptable traditionally. However, if the Deji was worried about which king is higher, which obviously is not in question, the Eze Igbo showed who is superior by dobale when he came. Also he showed respect by coming to see the Deji when he was summoned. So if you get summoned by a king and respectfully go, Dobale and honour the king as your superior, should the king dishonour you by asking you to remove your crown? He is also a king of his own people. One would see the Igbo people's reaction to the action meted out to their king. If he werent their king, they would not protest at the Dejis gate. However, there should have been a better response though. If the Akure youth would try to man handle a king of his own people even though less than the Deji in statute in their own eyes, a wise Deji would have stopped them. If he was still not happy with the crown on the Eze Igbos head even though he responded to the summon and respectfully dobaled, he would have just told him plainly that its not acceptable to wear the crown before the Deji and that he should come back another day without the crown. Thats wisdom. About the markets, it seems the majority of people selling there are Igbos and would want to keep their interests. Just maybe, if there are more Igbos in that area, an election or selection would most likely return an Igno Chairman for the market. In the interest of peace, let there be understanding. Let young people not go about throwing senseless ideas online. The issue can be resolved. It wont go down well with the Igbos to not have a leader to represent their interests in the market while respecting the tradions of their host. It wont go well too to disrespect the Deji by violent protest or also manhandling the Eze Igbo. |

justman911: Baroba:Shut ya gob! Sanctimonious and ignorantly silly folks like you lot are the biggest problem of the black race - a curse/plague. If folks don't shy away from the truth - things of this nature will never happen. Talking about it is the only way to foster mutual respect and protect territory integrity. It's sacrilegious to declare yourself a crowned King on a next man's territory where there's a traditionally crowned king. Just as it's treason to declare yourself the president of a country, or an enclave within the borders of a country - when there's a president. Folks need to learn to respect other people's culture. If you don't like their way of life, just don't live among them, period. Why declare yourself a stupid King, when there's a king in the city? He even had the audacity to wear a useless crown to the real king's palace - what insolence! He's lucky they never asked someone like me to mete out punishment to him - I would've smacked his head with a baseball bat and give him permanent huge bumps on his head. So next time when he sees a crown, he'll run as far as he can from it. You see Obama bow down to Kings and monarchs in different countries and pay the required respect...you think he's stupid for doing that? Learn to respect people. |

menix:Ibos are animals in borrowed human skin. They are first grade criminals. Their "business prowess" is based on crime - adulteration, fake everything, okrika down to undies, importation of sub-standars products, etc. In any sane society with the rule of law, no Ibo businessman makes it, never. Ibo traders were sent packing from a large market in Ghana recently because the authorities could no longer condone their criminal activities. They are pests, leeches, and irritants everywhere they go. Hehehe, eze-ndigbo flogged, derobed and had his beads torn to shreads. What a big disgrace ! Shame on animals. |

What a crazy thread. I think Ezendigbo (I hate the useless title) title should be abolished in SW, we can't have two Kings in a Kingdom. And, they shouldn't have beaten the Chief(who calls himself a king), thank God police intervened before they killed the fake King. Let there be peace, I don't support violence. Live and let's live. But if violence is going to solve a problem, it's okay by me. Most important to me is Developement and Prosperity of Yorubaland. Yorubaland comes first, I don't give a damn. Lobatan, before I come out of retirement. |
| Re: Akure Youths Flogged Eze-ndigbo Out Of Deji Of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Palace by falopey: 12:01pm On Oct 15, 2015 |
2point5:Since the Eze Indigbo is a title holder in the territory of the monarch and not in Igbo land, that made him a subject of the monarch just like all other chiefs and village heads in the kingdom under Deji. So in yoruba tradition the Eze is just like one of the chiefs because those chiefs too are heads of their respective clans. Non of these cheifs and village heads under Deji wear crown. Wearing of crown is an emblem of traditional supremacy in all yoruba kingdom. It is a sign of disrespect to the king by the eze putting on a crown in the palace of Deji when when the Eze is not a traditional ruler visiting the oba from his own kingdom. |

I think everyone should just learn to respect the culture and norms of any community they found themselves, with that there will be peace. .... Afterall i have. been running for masquerade while going home from work in inland town Onitsha for the past 3weeks all in the name of celebrating New Yam festival, they beat up anyone at site both young and old... u can only escape if u give them money.... Despite the fact that i am not happy with it. yet i still leave there happily because i know it's there culture. .... God bless naija |

IGBOSON1:gud i like ur comment devoid of hate filled, bigotry n irrational words. Now d reply, dia is dis proverb in yoruba lang,(eni ti yio tele tutu, yio da omi siwaju) for u to be respected, u av must shown dat u deserve it.Dat man failed to respect his host, the king in particular, dat made him lose dis one dey wld av given to him. He failed to behave like a civilised person by honouring his host dat why they treated him in an uncivilised manner. We can't throw away our culture because of civilisation, when child wakes up in d morning, s/he supposes to greet d elderly ones in the house, when he s/he fails to do so, s/he deserves to be conked. Do u now mean because d parent are civilised, they shd overlook such nonsense? It wld av been proper to wear such crown, if they meet at an occasion, but dis is him going into anoda man's palace. It was a poor decision by him.The only reason i wld be offended, is if they beat the people dat came with him. |

IlekeHD:Lol. Ondo folks are very creative and we need to laud them for that. Horsewhip is their kryptonite! I just don't understand these people cos I've never seen a group like them. They just don't know how to act and everywhere they go, they never get along with everyone. Why? As a human being - once you're over 21, there are certain things folks shouldn't even tell you that you should know by observing your environment. It comes with maturity (real maturity and the useless definitions folks give maturity). When you're in Rome, you just have to act like the Romans. to enable mutual respect. However, that simple concept is foreign to these folks, hence they misbehave everywhere. I gave up on them when I saw a YouTube video of their protest in South Africa. Can you believe these folks were protesting to have the same rights in South Africa as the indigenous black population? The same folks that went through one of the greatest dehumanising crimes that's still fresh...and the overwhelming majority of that group is still alive. Then I saw them with a next protest in India. And boom, a next one in Malaysia. That was when I knew it's either a mental disease or post-traumatic stress disorder. Conversely, they don't join protests in western countries whenever black folks are protesting against inequality and injustice. There are protests in the US from time to time - how many times have you seen Igbo folks join those protests? During the London Riots - they also never came out to protest...the only folks out on the street were young blacks and older Caribbean folks. I never saw old Nigerians protesting on the streets. The only thing they do when there's real protest by all black folks is to tout how they're delusionally the most educated black folks and all kinds of dubious non-achieving crap. |
