karbridals: My dear you are arguing a moot point.. As far back as 1999, my father was the intermediary in a friends wedding to an Abia State girl, the list cost in excess of 600, thousand. They gave him a list for the mother and father that contained full outfit for them (Isi Agu, original red cap, walking stick, jewelry and more). The list also contained a box of Hollandaise wrapper. This was outside the ones for umunna and umuada and the traditional rites of kola nut and co. I have shared that experience here on Nairaland, feel free to search my post history if you please. In my hometown of Agukwu Nri, the Elders council had to come up with an official list for traditional marriage in the community because of the disparity in list from different families and the cost. Go online and search for tales from people and see for yourself. I had a pleasant experience and though my trad cost millions, it wasn't tied to the list. Those were just my personal expense. Imo State is the biggest culprit for exaggerated bridal list. Your family's list is not a yardstick for judging Igbo traditional marriage list. Some people are reasonable others are ludacris. 2 Likes |

Jenny1010: Tho missing some important info (pre-wedding activities) still a good writeup But Is it not about time people start focusing on other smaller and lesser known tribes within and outside the country Most people don't get to know much about them |

indigene: Good to know some of these things, it's time for NTA to regain some consciousness and start doing documentaries that would enlighten Nigerians and the world, many people live in Lagos and can't tel you of customs in nearby Abeokuta , likewise myself throughout my early childhood in Ibadan I was a teenager in Europe before I knew how the Obaship of Ibadan is conducted |

karbridals:Trust me, madCow1 is as igbo as they come. Stop using your own experience as a yardstick. My own roomate in the uni from Mbaise got married in 2009 and her husband spent close to two million on their wedding. My closest friend, an igbo girl got married in 2007 and her husband spent 700k on their wedding in Anambra, and that is minus other 'hidden charges' |

LaraiBoluwaji:that is a big fat lie. do you even know what 2 million is?. Any guy that will spend 2 million on a girl he is marrying is just doing that to show his affluence and riches and not because the parents demanded it. Is he buying a duplex or a car or is it not the normal yams, clothes and stuffs on the list. And also don't use your friend and room mate's experience that is if it is true as a yardstick too. |

LaraiBoluaji: Then get ur facts right,u can't go and feed the whole village and expect it to be the same amount I mentioned. With celebration(which is ur choice cos u can decide not to)yes it will up to that which also depends of ur pocket but with it,its less that 150k..thanks. |
