Melanesia is a subregion of Oceania extending from the western end of the Pacific Ocean to the Arafura Sea, and eastward to Fiji. The region comprises most of the islands immediately north and northeast of Australia. The name Melanesia (from Greek: μέλας black; νῆσος, islands) was first used by Jules Dumont d'Urville in 1832 to denote an ethnic and geographical grouping of islands distinct from Polynesia and Micronesia. In other words, Melanesians are black island people in the south pacific that migranted their thousands of years ago, unlike blacks in the americas that came to the americas as slaves. Needless to say, the majority of the world languages is spoken on the island of New Guinea which is in Melanesia. |

tpia.: According to single origin hypothesis, these guys were the first to leave Africa about 45,000 - 50,000 years ago. Since they were only a handful, they probably didnot change much and still look very much like their ancestors. 1 Like |

Is there a tradition of dyeing their children's hair (like some women in the north that wear eyeliner for their kids) or are they born naturally like that? Interesting. |

Nevertheless, i have visited that part of the world before mainly Fiji and Australia for vacation, and i have some relatives that live in melbourne Australia, and i have met some solomon islanders and other melanesian while i was in Australia. |
Re: Photos Of The Wonderful People Of Melanesia by ababda: 4:39am On Mar 15, 2010 |
Eddy1977 Actually, that is their natural hair color without dyeing it, however as i heard from some aboringines in Australia, and few of them have blond hair as well, their hair usually get darker once they get older, but some still maintain their natural blond hair when they are older as well. No, it is not a wig, and their hair color is not dyed but in its natural state. Many of children from the solomon islands and some Australian aboringines are naturally blond or red hair, which is not a big deal with these people. |

@post yes, they exist but you definitely dont see them at every street corner. its almost like blacks with green/blue eyes. its not difficult to see an Aborigene/Maori person with real brown hair though which is more common. @abada that last post of yours with the link just shows why i think this part of the world is the best!!!! |
Re: Photos Of The Wonderful People Of Melanesia by ababda: 5:17am On Mar 15, 2010 |
Mrjaybrown, it depends on the area and tribe of the particular Melanesians, I know for a fact it is very uncommon to see fijians with blond hair, however among some of the islands within the Solomons such as Malaita, and Santa Isabel people with blond colored here is not a unusually site, but not uncommon. However, since this is planet earth, i believe all areas of the planet is wonderful despite the problems, and all cultures all earth has its beauty as well. |

Re: Photos Of The Wonderful People Of Melanesia by Outstrip(f): 6:43am On Mar 15, 2010 |
I guess it kind of makes sense to think that they were the first people put of africa. They probably mated with a white people and white people left and they kept the mating among themselves after that. Maybe those white common ancestors with blond hair explains the hair. It is quite striking against their skin. Funny how I never noticed the hair even though I have spent time reading about Papau New Guinea and the neighboring Islands |

( sorry i am a bad boy,my favorite dish is between women's legs) also,do u think its easy to blend with them? Eddy1977 Well most of the islands in Melanesia speaks English as a international language along with their own languages according to tribe and region as well. However, French is spoken on the island of New Caledonia, and the French make up fifteen percent of the population their, which is the cause of many political problems on New Caledonia. However, like your country Nigeria, the local created a form of Pidgin English mainly on the island of Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. No, Eddy you will not have no problem blending in with the local population, because most likely many people will think you are local at first until you speak, until they realize you are foreign. Well, i was in Fiji, and many people in Fiji are quite friendly to Africans in general, however in Fiji there are problems with the Indians from India, that was exported by the British to fiji to work basically as servants or slaves to work the sugar cane plantations on the island. As far as your other interests, you will not have no problems in that part of the world. I'll leave it at that. |
